This force cracked the internal grid in several places and broke a portion of the grid free from hull. At some point an inspection was done, insurance was called and decisions were made. We are looking ahead to getting back to planking Arabella this summer. In order to do that, we are going to want all hands on deck, so we got a little help coming in. We've been busting stump to get the knees freed but that doesn't mean the battle is over. We still have many more to go and once they are freed, they still need to be sized and thicknessed. The good news is, we only need to rough them out right now so that they are an appropriate size and thickness to be able to season and dry a little bit before we have to give them their final shape and instal the in Arabella. With that, we probably should also talk about where these are going to go in the construction process and what their purposes really are. Knees grow in such a way that they grain follows the curve of the roots going out away from the tree. This creates a natural buttress which is extremely strong. We can use these buttresses to tie in sections of the boat, mainly the decking to the framing as well as the port and starboard sides of the boat with the breasthooks. There's nothing quite like watching a bikini babe bathing herself in a bucket. Oh - the rare treats we experience when living on a sailboat. Morning breaks, and we breathe a collective sigh of relief... we've survived the night-long onslaught of a billion unidentifiable, nocturnal flying insects. After counting her lucky stars, Tambi dons her skimpiest bikini and submerges her head in a bucket of lukewarm water in an attempt to cleanse her fabulously dirty hair. It would not have been the same without you. This episode was filmed in 09 / 2020. — Hey, my name is Nike and I bought an aluminum 37 foot sailboat in Panama in 2013 that I named KARL. I spent a good year refitting it, mostly by myself and with the help of awesome friends, and then (mostly) solo sailed my sailboat around the western Caribbean. In 2016, I crossed the Panama Canal, had a major engine break down, a near sinking experience and a serious foot injury which got me stuck along the Pacific coast of Central and South America. In this Episode, we prep the hull of my Reinke Super 10 to renew my bottom paint. The current covid19 situation makes it tricky to go into a marina, so I take advantage of my twin keels and a strong moon tide to let my boat dry fall to get the bottom job done. First we scrape off Karl’s massive beard and then we grind away all the left over barnacle feet with 80 grit grinding discs. Since we only have a very limited time window to paint a layer of epoxy primer and antifouling between the tides and rain showers, I do a little trial run to see whether the pint holds up with 7 hours of curing instead of 12.
