Daniel Snyman from Leopard South Africa takes us through all of the features of the Leopard 40. The Leopard 40, like other Leopard models before her, is a product of South African boat builders Robertson and Caine and includes a unique, modern design thanks to experienced naval architects Simonis and Voogd as well as Robertson and Caine's design team. She resembles her predecessors in speed, agility, and blue-water performance, but her enhancements include an increased volume in the hulls and a design consistent with the rest of the Leopard range currently in production.

How does a ten year old yacht remain at the forefront of one of the great ocean race classics? With her distinctively narrow hull, Bob Oatley’s Wild Oats XI has beaten all comers for line honours in eight out of the last ten Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Races. And now her original builders McConaghy Boats have completed her most radical modification yet, with the goal of maintaining her winning ways. But getting paid to sail to some of the world’s most exotic places, now that piques my curiosity! Over the years and various anchorages, we’ve made friends with a few people who are professional Yacht Crew. We know they have almost no expenses (room & board are covered by the ship), get paid well and have at least a few months off each year. Pretty much sounds like a dream job for any nomadic heart. But what the job really entails…well, that’s hard to grasp without some firsthand experience. So, when our friend Captain Mike invited us to be part of the crew aboard S/Y Destination for the passage from Monaco to Mallorca, there was no hesitation. Just a resounding YES! We wanted to go sailing so bad we would have done any job, scrubbing toilets and bilges included. But, we lucked out with primo gigs. As the photo suggests, Jason is the Sous Chef. 😲 You know by now (all too well) Jason doesn't do the cooking, he does the dishes. So, this is a man outside of his element. Will he be able to cut it in the kitchen? How much dough do these maritime maestros rake in? Will Jason's culinary skills sink or swim? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WE’RE JASON AND NIKKI WYNN. A couple of modern-day documentarians, perpetual travelers, and seekers of tall tales. We’ve been chasing our curiosity around the world on wheels and keels since 2011. Why? Because curiosity is the key to unlocking life. It pushes us outside our comfort zone, softens our assumptions, and helps us embrace the great unknown. The more we let our curiosity lead the way, the more we discover about ourselves and the world around us. Our home is also our transportation and we spend weeks away from civilization and sometimes land. Self-reliance and living a sustainable lifestyle are a must. It's all about managing our resources and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so. We've lived off the grid for over 10 years now in everything from a Van to RV to a Sailboat. And over time we have learned a lot about renewable energy, creating safe drinking water, and managing our waste. SOLD! Congratulations and safe travels to the new owners. Versatility, comfort, and long-range stamina are what make a Nordhavn 47 such a profound trawler yacht. Beautifully finished inside and out she is a treasure afloat, equally at ease anchored in some shallows as she is capable and ready to take off on a long-distance, ocean-crossing adventure. Bluewater is a truly exceptional vessel that is in wonderful condition. She changed hands in 2021 and her new owners took an accomplished work horse and refreshed her with improvements to cosmetics and mechanicals. Hull 32 in the series she looks like a boat half her age. She shines with a high-end HK Research gel-coat, one of only three [famous] Nordhavns to be molded with this coat. Her interior layout features the coveted, two-stateroom, two-head layout. When it comes to Bluewater, the first word that comes to mind is, ‘prepared’. Her systems, and abundant spare parts on board make her a very capable ocean crossing vessel. The many redundant systems, comprehensive navigation and communication gear, excellent equipment coupled with numerous conveniences, make her a very special vessel. Bluewater is ready to take you on your next adventure – be it coastal cruising or ocean crossing – she was built to live up to her name. We are Ben and MP! Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the work needed was much more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Watch us as we bring Yabá back to life with the help of an amazing team of traditional shipwrights, sharing every phase of the process, overcoming the highs and lows and having fun along the way. More about us: 👉 About us + Q&A https://youtu.be/TldDlohjwTs 👉 more info about the project http://www.sailingyaba.com 💙 Massive thanks to our amazing team of carpenters that never let us down and continue to amaze us at every step of the process: Toninho, Zeca, Hélio, Claiton, William, Nezo, Nico, Adilson, Beto and Luiz. One of the things we appreciate so much about boatbuilding is that there are so many different ways to do things and so many things to learn. We have worked really hard to teach ourselves what we need to know in order to build Arabella. From studying in books, haunting the Wooden Boat forum and even looking at real life examples (taking apart Victoria provided us with so much information). But one of the nice things about building our community through these videos is that we have forged some great connections with experienced shipwrights who have a wealth of knowledge to share. Louis Sauzedde is one of these shipwrights. We got to know Lou through our connections with Jamestown Distributors. Lou has had a long running, and very popular Youtube Channel called Tips from a Shipwright (if you don't know if, you need to go check it out!). We've spoken with Lou a bit before but this was his first opportunity to come to see Arabella and he had some tips about planking to share with us, which we very much appreciate. A special thank you to Jamestown Distributors who made the initial connection and has been helping us out tremendously throughout this project. And of course to Lou for making the trip out and spending the day with us in the boathouse. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Acorn to Arabella wishlist: http://www.acorntoarabella.com/acorn-to-arabella-wishlist Jamestown Distributors Referral: If you are going to shop at Jamestown Distributors, please consider using our Total Boat referral code: http://totalboat.refr.cc/steveandalixa?t=tg FOLLOW US: Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/acorntoarabella Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/acorntoarabella/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/acorntoarabella Website: http://www.acorntoarabella.com
Searching for Distant Shores III. I visit Poland and tour the Delphia plant. Then a testsail aboard the Delphia 46DS. It is a true pilothouse with raised saloon. So you can see out from the table, and while standing in the galley. You can also steer, seeing forward from the helm. The Delphia 46 is very strongly built, and has the most storage space I have seen on a cruising boat this size. Well organized galley drawers, cabinets, closets throughout. A great live aboard boat.
In this episode we sail through the Sulu sea which was once the most treacherous pirate waters in the world, because of the terrorist group Abu Sayyaf. There have been 85 crew held hostage over the years, with some horrific executions taking place in the Philippines. But it turns out the pirates were the least of our worries, when we get stuck up a river and get overwhelmed by logs rushing downstream straight towards us! Acorn to Arabella - Journey of a Wooden Boat - Episode 90: Backhoes, Easy Bake Ovens and Bilge Bands
There is always a ton of stuff going on at the same time here. And although some of it is behind the scenes action and not necessarily boatbuilding per se, there is a lot of the project spent working on some really interesting random things! Figuring out how to make tools to make the build easier is one of the fun ones. We deal with one of these in this episode to help us with the graving pieces. We also get a thumb attached to the backhoe, glue up another plank, talk about the SAILCARGO project and finally, mark for the bilge bands. This last part will give a little understanding to something that will be a fun little challenge down the road and which we are excited to get into. But for now, enjoy this little episode packed full of many different tasks! As mentioned, we are setting up our merchandise for the holidays and hoping to get the last few items up in the next couple of days. Some will be in time for the holidays and some will have to be New Year's gifts ;) We now have long sleeve shirts on offering, including safety orange ones for all those guys needing long sleeves and high visibility at work! (we listened!) Coming soon and hopefully in time will be some Acorn to Arabella pins which would make perfect stocking stuffers! Beanies (winter hats) are coming soon. And our favorite but which might be a bit late are some really great insulated travel mugs with our logo on them. All items will be available on our site under merchandise ( linked here: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/merchandise ) The deadline for orders to be able to be shipped in time in the continental U.S. is December 4th (sorry to all international folks... we didn't make it in time!) Thank you all for the support and we wish you all Happy Holidays!

Whilst over in the US, we had the honour of walking through the 7 key elements that make a great hull design with boating expert, Eric Sorenson. The 7 elements can be used to examine any boats hull design, enabling you to predict how that boat will respond, handle and perform in any sea state. From the flare of the bow, to the deadrise, right through to the shape of the keel, Eric explains how each element is engineered specifically to give stability, buoyancy, acceleration and resistance, in order to provide an overall smoother experience at sea. This run-through is a detailed look behind the curtain at what makes a Grady-White so special and regarded as the best running boat in the world.

This Azimut 103 sport must be seen in person to truly appreciate. Her appearance is so unique and striking. At the Fort Lauderdale boat show, she stood out dramatically from all the other yachts moored around her. Although certainly not the newest or most expensive yacht at the show, there were people literally standing in line to get aboard! I am grateful to broker Jose Arana, who closed the boat and gave us the time to do the walkthrough. It became a quick run and gun live filming situation, where we only got the one take. Unfortunately, we experienced a focus issue with one of the lenses on some interior shots. This was not apparent until the footage was reviewed later. I can only apologize sincerely for the issue and hope it doesn't take away entirely from the experience of walking through this uniquely gorgeous vessel. 👀 Subscribe to YachtLens for more exclusive yacht tours and insider insights into the world of luxury and adventure yachts and yachting. Last week we watched Jason sharpen his culinary skills as Sous Chef. Now, it's my turn as we set sail from Monaco to Palma. I've snagged the role of Mate which means I am responsible for everything from keeping a vigilant watch (hello man overboard drill) to engine checks (does not go off without a hitch) and even playing spiderman up the mast (150 feet up in the air!). And, despite our many sea going miles, the challenges of operating a superyacht of this caliber are unlike anything we've experienced before. The contrast between our humble boat and the grandeur of Destination is striking to say the least. Join us for Part 2 of this sea fearing adventure, where we see if my cruising sea legs are strong enough for a shot at being professional crew. ⛵🌊 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WE’RE JASON AND NIKKI WYNN. Our journey is ever-evolving but the mission remains the same: #CultivateCuriosity Timestamps if you like to Jump Around: 00:00 Working as Crew on a Yacht 01:18 Anchor Up in Monaco 02:19 Climbing Up a 172 foot mast! 05:07 Sunset Man Overboard Drill (Ocean Trash) 06:45 The Silent Beauty of Night Watch 07:52 Sunrise over the Med 08:49 Searching for Boat Supplies Around the World 11:17 Mid-Passage Swim in 6,500 feet of water 12:14 Watch, Captains Log and CALM 14:22 Land Ho and Celebration! 15:47 Stunning Sunset - No Drone, No Worries 19:22 Avoiding Mate Responsibilities 21:24 Prep for Docking & Engine Room Checks 23:33 Sunrise Docking in Palma, Mallorca 25:58 Converting a yacht to Docked Crew Mode ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- #BoatLife #Catamaran #TravelVlog #DigitalNomad #LifeStyle #Sailboats © Gone With the Wynns 2023
Some describe the new Magic Carpet-e as the most advanced Maxi to be built in more than a decade, others say that she will change not just the Maxi racing scene, but the use of electric power on board a yacht. And some simply point to a 100 footer that is a staggering 10 tonnes lighter than the previous Magic Carpet and is set to be a light weather weapon. There. is no doubt that she's a complex machine. She has a canting keel with nine and half tonne bulb that also acts like a centreboard. She has a retractable canard...that can change its angle of attack and also cants from side to side, plus she has twin lifting rudders. Her 46m carbon mast supports a giant sail plan that looks like a scaled up IMOC…..and yet there are just six winches on deck. But the biggest difference between this boat and the rest of the Maxi fleet is that Magic Carpet-e is fully electric. All the eveindence we needed to know that we had to go and see her for real. Matt Sheahan and videographer Richard Langdon were invited aboard Magic Carpet-e for a couple of days in her home port of St Tropez. In the first of three reports Matt speaks to owner Sir Lindsay Owen-Jones, skipper Danny Gallichan and project manager Ed Bell about the concept behind this sophisticated and slippery Maxi. How you could be foiling in hours rather than years. Until now, sailing on hydrofoils has been largely for pro sailors and those with a surplus of talent and time. But as Matthew Sheahan discovers aboard a brand new production built foiling cat, flying could soon be for all
