From what looked to be quite an unpromising weather forecast, wind-wise, Saturday in Barcelona actually turned out to be one of the most entertaining and enlightening training sessions that we’ve seen so far in the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup. Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli and NYYC American Magic were the only two teams on the water and with everyone fighting to sail in the same stretch of water, the inevitable happened and we got a first sight of boats lining up loosely against each other – the rules precluding actual two-boat racing. ASK DAN - Got a question - Minnect me https://app.minnect.com/expert/DanJones I think this is more than just an Adventure Boat now and we need to think of a new category name for it. The Saxdor 400GTO has all the hull characteristics of a fast and efficient twin stepped hull. But this new design with the roof, drop down sides and an interior layout that will transform to suit so multiple requirements is truly ahead of it's time in my opinion. Once again Sakari (Head Designer) has created a boat that both looks cool, performs great but is also priced very competitive and performs more like your own 'Private Island' instead of just a boat to take you places. I was imagining myself spending a whole summer living onboard this boat in Sydney which is not a dream I have ever had for an Adventure Boat. That's the difference to this design - it is going to welcome a lot more people into this category because they will look at the 400GTO and realise how well they can fit it into their own Boat Life. Is it perfect - No. I'm yet to find a perfect boat and I found a bunch of small improvements that I think Saxdor would benefit from implementing. Are they things that would stop me from taking a bet on this boat - No. I think this will win Boat of the Year for it's category in 2025 because when you consider price, performance and layout it's going to be hard to beat. Plus it’s difficult to find good shelter here because the mountainous terrain causes the winds to wrap in unpredictable ways, so we can never be certain if we’re protected from forecasted winds. And the extremely deep anchorages make finding a safe spot to drop the hook a real challenge. Last week after being surprised by some strong winds that appeared out of nowhere, we sought the refuge of a small marina tucked away in a long, narrow bay. And when the forecasts started calling for a storm to come through the area, we decided to stay in the marina until it passed since this bay appeared to have good protection from the forecasted wind direction. Ep 90 - Searching for Manatees with Sailing Life on Jupiter and Sailing Free Spirit Today, Jamie and Princess from Sailing Life on Jupiter were in the area and we decided to meet up and show them the local wildlife! Manatees!! We took More Better out for a day trip to Crystal River to cruise around Kings Bay and 3 Sisters where the manatees usually hide for the winter. Oakley and His Royal Majesty King George were along of the trip. Both were equally jealous of the other and their respective mommies. But they got along well after a while. They even went for swim. Later we stopped off for some dinner and finished out the day with dessert before we parted ways and they continued on their journey and we returned back to our lives. The Saxdor 400GTO has all the hull characteristics of a fast and efficient twin stepped hull. But this new design with the roof, drop down sides and an interior layout that will transform to suit so multiple requirements is truly ahead of it's time in my opinion. Once again Sakari (Head Designer) has created a boat that both looks cool, performs great but is also priced very competitive and performs more like your own 'Private Island' instead of just a boat to take you places. I was imagining myself spending a whole summer living onboard this boat in Sydney which is not a dream I have ever had for an Adventure Boat. That's the difference to this design - it is going to welcome a lot more people into this category because they will look at the 400GTO and realise how well they can fit it into their own Boat Life. Is it perfect - No. I'm yet to find a perfect boat and I found a bunch of small improvements that I think Saxdor would benefit from implementing. Are they things that would stop me from taking a bet on this boat - No. I think this will win Boat of the Year for it's category in 2025 because when you consider price, performance and layout it's going to be hard to beat. This was a good day to be on a foiling yacht, sitting above the waves, not so good on a Chase Boat trying to keep up with three AC75s easily busting through 40 knots at times but Barcelona was beautiful and delivered in style. An offshore mistral brought in a building afternoon sea-breeze that whipped up the wave-forms as they approached the man-made sunken reefs that dot around the beachfront and made sailing more than challenging at times for INEOS Britannia, NYYC American Magic and Alinghi Red Bull Racing. Winter hasn’t quite clenched her fist on Auckland just yet with a glorious day presenting itself on a billiard-table flat Hauraki Gulf and gentle south-westerly breezes for another two-boat race practice session for Emirates Team New Zealand’s senior squad and another opportunity for the Women & Youth teams to get out. Unfortunately for the Women’s team, who docked-out early, the wind was a cruel mistress and even when joined by the LEQ12 in the afternoon, it was a struggle to find any kind of consistent breeze. Bagging a place on the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup racecourse off La Barceloneta beachfront is becoming quite a game for the teams all eager to train on a very specific area of water. A bit like those sunbathers that grab a deckchair with a towel early in the morning, it’s becoming a race from dock-out to get your marks in early, lay a course and get flying. Today with just two teams training in Alinghi Red Bull Racing and NYYC American Magic, it very much felt a crowded place. The toughest call in this America’s Cup cycle is undoubtedly who will win the inaugural Puig Women’s America’s Cup. A case can be made for almost any of the teams such is the level of competition and with athletes coming back from Paris Olympic commitments and teams training super-hard both off the water on their simulators or on the water on AC40s at any opportunity, this is just too close for a gamble on the outcome. We have waited a while to see it, but today Barcelona delivered a solid 17-20 knots of south-south-westerly breeze and gave NYYC American Magic, the only team out on the water on Monday, the chance to open the throttles and show the outrageous performance of a new-gen AC75 in all its glory. It was almost impossible for the recon teams to keep up, such were the speeds being generated but what a fabulous spectacle and one that every fan will want to see come the racing for the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup.
