The boat is still leaking at the starboard bollard so I change the butyltape to some sikaflex 291i so it can be complete watertight by the two screws. After the little operation in starboard side I start to pull off the port bollard and gets stunned over a giant hole I find in the side of the boat, clearly here where the water has bled into the cabin. I fill the hole with some epoxy and cover the area with a layer of sikaflex 291i. In starboard side I will like to drill some holes but my Dewalt drilling machine is to long so I can't drill a straight hole. The solution to that is to buy a cheap shorter Biltema CD108B drilling machine so it can fit below the railing.

Hanse is know for high quality sporty boats and these two are definitely among them. From sturdy handrails to like three windows in the stern cabins, these boats promise comfort, speed and fun. Treated myself to a visit of the Interboot in Friedrichshafen in late 2017. So this are model year 2018 boats I'm bitching about. Everything said here is just my opinion. The complaints voiced are the textbook definition of first world problems. Just a nudge for the manufacturers. The last couple of steps one could take to propell a boats interior from very good to perfect. Or some minor things for potential buyers to maybe take into account. This is the first Episode of the Tech Review offshoot channel of Cruising Off Duty. I bought a Camera Slider so that I could get those silky smooth product shots. I figured that was a must for my planned first episode where I had intended to review the different cameras I use to film Cruising Off Duty. But, I tried to go cheap and it cost me. The NEEWER 47" Camera slider I got arrived with one of the 4 legs broken off. It didn't happen in shipping because it came in a very padded package. So that mean the slider left the factory with one busted leg which is not something that screams "Top Quality Product" and good "Quality Control". Needless to say I am sending it back. Luckily I bought through Amazon so returns are not a problem. Since one of the things I said I was going to do on this channel is to review tech products and give you my honest opinion of what is worth buy and what you should avoid so that you can avoid spending your hard earned money on stuff you won't like or wont use. To prove that is the case, I am going to start off not talking about Camera but showcase this product and proving the old adage "You get what you pay for". The next planned episode will be going over the cameras I use, but I now need to wait for my new 32" carbon fiber slider (hopefully in good shape this time). Over the winter we decided to try out a little experiment we would share with everyone. While doing our research we heard a lot about the effects of different metals on one another. The nobility of a metal will determine how it reacts to others with differing nobility, leading to the more noble metal enhancing the corrosion of the lesser noble one. We found this fascinating and decided it would be interesting to see if we could see if first hand in a little experiment at home. After St. Vincent, s/v Cloudy Bay (Hallberg-Rassy 54) moves on to St. Lucia, which looks a lot like St. Vincent, but neater and tidier. We moored in 5 different anchorages (Vieux Fort, Soufriere, Anse des Pitons, Marigot Bay and Rodney Bay) to see for ourselves what each bay had to offer. The highlight for us were the Pitons, which make for a dramatic setting for the Sugar Beach Resort. For a small island, there is an amazing amount to see and do, so we spent 2 days driving around the island to all the main attractions. We were impressed with the quaint fishing villages of Choiseul and Canaries and Anse la Raye, the fishing pots tradition in Laborie village, and the cleanliness of Castries, the capital. Soufriere has a charming old town, with original colonial buildings, and a very busy jetty when cruise ships arrive on the island. On the beaches part, our favorite was Anse des Pitons. We didn’t have kite-surfing wind conditions in neither Sandy Beach, nor in Cap Estate. Least impressed we were with Rodney Bay (and Gros Islet), which was loud and had some serious security issues for the visiting yachts.

Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘blar bar mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. For additional details pertinent to this video please read the description below. Center of Balance is the first video in our Physics of Docking series. Jeff Merrill asked experienced trawler owner, Douglas Cochrane, to collaborate with him to share their combined docking knowledge with other boaters through the ease of video. Filming for these episodes was done in San Diego, CA aboard a single engine Nordhavn 57. Center of Balance explains how to rotate on your pivot point and hold position. Tight turns at different speeds will give you a feel for the helm pressure on your rudder and all boaters can benefit from knowing how to do a hard stop. Viewers have enthusiastically responded to the presentation style Douglas and Jeff have used to illustrate the most commonly used docking techniques. You too should be able to glean many insights that you can learn and master through practice. By trying what you learn here out on your own trawler, you will improve your docking talents. Each video provides explanations and tips that will help you better understand the causes and effects of the various controls aboard your trawler. Learning what options you have and, more importantly, how and when to use the controls on your trawler should help you improve your close quarter boat handling talents. Each time you return to shore you may need to draw upon lessons learned from a previous docking experience and every docking event can include variables that you didn’t expect. Docking conditions can vary…even returning to a familiar slip location. Wind, tide, currents, low floating kayaks and SUP’s, other boats – the reality is, there are a lot of moving parts outside of your pilothouse to watch including some very stubborn fixed objects like docks and pilings. Docking can be a stressful event. There is a lot of pressure on the skipper to make a smooth arrival. Docking success requires finesse, patience, and a sound understanding of all the “tools” your trawler has available. Anything you can do to improve your docking skills is time well spent. You can improve by practicing different maneuvers away from crowded marinas, in open water, to simulate different situations. With clear water and room to move, you can simulate a variety of approaches – bow in, stern in, side ties, etc., to learn how your trawler behaves. There are quite a few boat handling techniques that you can implement to control your positioning. The key is to understand all of your options and learn how to use a variety of ways to pivot, rotate and move your boat where you want it to be at slow speeds in tight quarters. For example, you may need to give a strong rev to push your propeller wash against your rudder and then immediately back down so you don’t lurch forward too quickly. Knowing how much, when and for how long comes with practice. Going slow is normally the best option and don’t forget, the faster you go, the more damage you can create if something goes wrong. Sure, bow and stern thrusters can make even a novice docker look like a pro. There is no shame in using thrusters, they can bail you if you get into a tight squeeze, but you can get yourself in trouble if you rely on them and they stop working. Practice your boat handling and docking skills without thrusters and you will become a more capable captain. As you become more experienced you will plan your approach, discuss in advance with your crew what you intend to do and anticipate what positioning steps you will employ for a safe landing. If it doesn’t feel right, you can always cancel the attempt and get realigned to try again. Arriving at your destination is normally the last act of the day and a smooth landing will give you a positive boost as you shut things down and tidy up. Here’s to many happy returns! Und wie immer hatten wir unseren Spaß! Wir haben einen sogenannten "Hash" mitgemacht, was ziemlich chaotisch war, allerdings ein cooles Erlebnis. Außerdem haben wir die Dieselpest beseitigt, die Schäden des Blitzeinschlages repariert und mehr noch.
