How to clean the Bottom of a Sailboat with a hookah, along with a DIY Propspeed review of Sea Breathe , and the Best chain hook which we have concluded is a Mantus Chain Hook! - Patrick Childress Sailing Tips and Sailing Videos #12 ....A hookah or Sea Breathe for boat work is absolutely necessary equipment for a cruising sailboat.....It can take hours to clean the bottom of a sailboat hull to get ready to sail on ecspecially without the best propeller paint like Oceanmax propspeed with extra foul release which we applied DIY in Malaysia in 2017. 2019..it’s still working great. This sailboat video specifically covers how to clean a sail boat hull underwater. More speed...with less fuel! Is their saying...we like that! Bottom painting a propeller requires the best propeller paint, and a good snuba or hookah unit like the Sea Breathe unit we have on sailboat Brick House. My personal opinion of Propspeed from Oceanmax, Sea Breathe hookah/snuba, is that it’s one of the tools on a sailboat every sailor must have. Also, we have found that the Mantus chain hooks are the best chain hook for sailboat, after trying a number of other chain hooks over the years. Propspeed made cleaning the sailboat prop a non event. We haven’t figured out how to keep the bottom of the boat clean yet, besides scrubbing it every few weeks with the Sea Breathe hookah. At least with Propspeed, the propeller stays free from barnacles and growth, even if the bottom becomes fouled quite quickly. Cleaning ablative bottom paint can even be fun with a hookah and a boat bottom scraper, but someday we hope to find something that works. CoppercCoat is a bit too expensive for us, but we hope when our budget fees up a little bit more, that perhaps we can do a Coppercoat DIY application. I believe they do not allow this, but we are hoping to one day we can find a way to get ourselves a batch and do a “How To Apply Coppercoat yourself” video! That would save the money it costs to have it done professionally, and nobody is more concerned about doing it properly than the boatowner himself! s/v Cloudy Bay (Hallberg-Rassy 54) sails 75 miles from Rodney Bay, St.Lucia to Roseau, Dominica with a night stop on the way in Anse Mitan, Martinique. The easterly winds are constantly changing in the lee of the three island’s volcanic peaks; accelerating at their north and south extremities and constant 20kts beam reach in between, leading to a lot of sails adjustments. As we head north to the start of the leeward islands, we are finally off the wind and going like a train! This is how sailing should be while island hopping in the Caribbean.

This year has already kicked off with some of the most spectacular super yacht launches. | Season 2 | Episode 23 | On this episode I haul up for the last time on Santa Cruz Island and make my way for Two Harbors on Catalina Island, a distance of 64 nm. I was able to sail for the first six hours of the passage and even though much of it was through heavy fog I was so happy to be sailing with only the sound of the sea in my ears. Finally getting my Raymarine ST2000+ Autotiller working (now known as HAL2000) I had an easy over night motorsail and was greeted to Catalina with a brilliant sunrise. Closing out 2017 with an unforgettable trip and spending the last day and night on what feels like my home base island, Catalina. - The last week of 2017 I took an amazing solo sailing trip to the Channel Islands. I visit six anchorages on Santa Cruz Island before sailing for Catalina Island and tying up in Isthmus Cove for New Years Eve. We sailed back on New Years Day enjoying sunshine, great wind and thousands of dolphins. While I was on my trip I started my first podcast and the first episode is up online now. The podcast is titled “A STERN VIEW” and is something of a cruising guide to anchorages and sailing destinations. Each episode is recorded on location and I cover everything I know about the anchorage from my research and experience at the anchorage. I also kept a journal in my logbook and will be posting them as a blog with still photos. This will act as support to the A STERN VIEW podcast as will each new video episode that features the anchorage covered in the podcast episodes. In this episode I show how to install a stock factory backup camera in a 2017 Ford F-150 XL that did not come with a backup camera. Here are steps to activate the camera and then turn on backup lines: 1: Connect ForScan, follow the prompts when connecting. 2: Under the FCDIM module, on the 7A5-01-01 line/field, change the 2nd digit from a "0" to a "2". Save/write the change (follow the prompts). (this activates the camera) 3: Under the BCM module, on the 726-39-02 line/field, change the 6th digit to a "1". Save/write the change (follow the prompts). 4: Click the wrench icon and run "LIN New Module Calibration". We have had an incredible day exploring Shroud Cay in The Bahamas! We started today out by taking the dinghy to several beaches and exploring all there is to see and do while here. Check that video out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3sqvr9ovgU Later that same day we went back to the island to see if we could find a well that is marked on the chart. The trail begins near the pay box for those using mooring balls in the anchorage. The pay box is located near the "Exuma Cay Land and Sea Park" sign directly East of the anchorage. It is a very easy walking trail with several scenic views along the way. We wore our flip flops which was fine, but we did notice the rock on the island can be extremely sharp and could hurt your feet/body if you were to fall. Episode 25 Atlantic Crossing. Man Over Board, Killer Whales, Fish On… After Hayley has finished editing an episode, she gets me (Dave) to watch it and check it over… I’m sure I get more pleasure than anyone watching these back after a few months but watching this was INCREDIBLE! This must be our best episode yet!!?? What an amazing time we had crossing the Atlantic and I think this episode sums it up really well. We chilled in the sun, caught fish, ate good food and enjoyed the solitude of being in the middle of the ocean. After a couple of days of fair winds and making good way we continued heading SW trying to stay in the wind but avoid the worst of the low pressure system headed our way. Keeping an eye on the weather at least every 6 hours with our unlimited satellite data plan, it’s slow but with not much else to do I kept an eye on that storm as much as I could. This meant that we found ourselves frustratingly having to motor for 24 hours but at least we were headed in the right direction and when the storm hits we will be to the south of it. While we had fair weather, Hayley and I took the opportunity to run the crew through a surprise MOB drill. We’ve all trained and familiarised with our onboard safety gear but not in the open ocean so I thought I’d check everyone knew their roles in an unexpected drill. Plus, the water was looking so appealing that I had to finds an excuse to stop the boat and have a swim in 6,000m of water! Killer Whales!!!! Yep, we were unbelievably lucky and had a pod of 5 Orca dance and play in our bow wave. None of us could believe how lucky we were. Hayley was physically shaking because she was so scared and full of adrenaline! “Watch out Dave, they could jump on the boat and sink us!” Sheer Hayley brilliance as usual!
