When Jake Lilley chased his America's Cup dream, he lent good friend Lewis Brake his Finn. Now Brake is the U23 Australian champion.

We hit Vegas and stay in one of the oldest establishments there, Circus Circus Casino. The RV park is in a great location at the end of the ‘strip’. We take a 10 kilometre saunter along the strip and check out the sights and sounds. We then continue on the last leg of Route 66 heading for the Santa Monica Pier, which marks the end of this incredible journey. Here’s some of the stuff we came across and places we stopped at along the way: Cool Springs Gas Station, Oldham, the famous Roy's Motel Cafe, Amboy, California, Amboy Crater, Ludlow Cafe, The Two 66 Sixes Company, Polly Gas Station, Riverside Cement Company, Mohawk Mini Mart, Mojave River Bridge, Rancho Jurupa Park, Madonna of the Trail, Upland, Wolfe's Market Kitchen and Deli, La Paloma Mexican Restaurante, Pinnacle Peak Steakhouse, and the Azusa Foothill Drive-In Theater Marque. That’s Route 66, done and dusted. We’ve got a spare week up our sleeve, before we need to head back to Australia, so we thought, instead of twiddling our thumbs, we might as well do something. So, I learned that you DO need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, and a traditional career but that it IS possible, worth it, and the only lifestyle that makes me happy. I make my income almost entirely by creating content for YouTube, but it's a tight budget. Ad revenue, business sponsors, affiliate links, Patreon, Paypal donations, and merchandise sales bring in about as much as a part-time job, and I'm able to make that work. When it isn't enough, I go back to regular work such as photography, videography or construction, but that takes the focus away from my own projects. - How does your dog fit into this lifestyle? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with Champ anyways, since we enjoy similar things, like eating food and being outdoors. I let the constraint of bringing my dog with me help me make decisions about where I go and what I do, so I avoid places that ban dogs, and therefore spend more time in nature instead of in cities. - How do you make it work as a digital nomad? My electrical power set-up allows charging my camera and laptop to film and edit almost daily. For Internet access quick and reliable enough to upload my episodes a few at a time, I use coffee shops and libraries. I also use a data package on my phone (10GB), a WiFi antenna, and a WiFi booster.

This is the story of our eleventh hour escape from Thailand to KL, Malaysia... While the painters continued to make fast work of the hard dodger roof, Liz woke up remembering that it was about time to renew our visas in Thailand. For just 1900 THB we would extend our stay a further 30 days. Sweet. It's a simple process, but the problem was they expired that day. Immediate action was required, but since it was the weekend Immigration was closed. I'm stuck at Marina La Gomera waiting for a part for my auto-pilot. On my pontoon there are several sport fishing boats. They all seem busy coming in and out daily. Firing up the solar panels for the first time. A lot has happened to get our solar panels up and running, but we finally did it! We finished wiring the Chevy Volt lithium batteries, landing cables, installing power distribution blocks and fuses and creating a water cooling system. We tested out the rowing dingy for the first time and had to bail all the rain water out of it a few days later. Ironically, it wasn’t a great “sail” at all to Great Sale Cay, but it was one of the most memorable trips Phillip and I have made on our boat. Visually, the most striking, for sure. We pull out of Liberty Marina, MD and make our way as far South as we can get! We get a great first test run on the boat with our motor going out on the first day and then 50 knot gusts of wind causing us to accidentally gybe the mainsail the second day! On Solomon's Island we cruise around land with the courtesy bikes, meet new friends, and dreamt at the docks in peace knowing we were safe from crab pots- even if it was only for a short while! Following a recommendation of a friend about a cheap rate on a quiet place to get the boat hauled out, we finally stop in Reedsville, Virginia! An unincorporated little town where there are more crab pots than people and lots of beautiful birds! Wow what a start to 2018! Turtles, stunning bays, clear water and great company. We left one of our favourite bays in St Lucia, Marigot Bay to head to Rodney bay for one night before doing a early morning day sail to Martinique for New Years. We had a pretty mellow new year (Martinique was quite, would you believe that?) so on the 1st of Jan we heading to the insane bay just around the corner called Grande Anse..... IT WAS AMAZING!!!
