My electrical power set-up allows charging my camera and laptop to film and edit almost daily. For Internet access quick and reliable enough to upload my episodes a few at a time, I use coffee shops and libraries. I also use a data package on my phone (10GB), a WiFi antenna, and a WiFi booster.

On this episode I do a dry fit of the new holding tank I am installation on my 1965 Alberg 30. I then move on to cutting out bases for the Y-Valves and finally cut an access hole in the top of my holding tank. I make my project videos on the slow side letting people see what I did and how I dealt with obstacles, in past videos my viewers have thanked me for not jumping over all of the details and getting right to the finished project so while this might not be the most exciting video it might help some people out there see how I dealt with certain aspects of the project. One of the first lesson you need to teach anyone learning to sail a dingy is how to capsize and recover. Over coming the fear of being in the water and getting the boat back up and going is a really important if the kids are going to stay safe as the learn to sailing on their own. It was quite a scary moment for me, having taught countless kids to sail it usually goes one of two way........ 1) They get upset and want to see their mum. 2) They laugh and ask if they can do it again. You need it to be a number 2 if they are going to come back for more.

Renee joins us as we take a quick 60nm jump across the Pacific side of Panama towards a relatively unknown set of islands called the Pearl Islands or Las Perlas. To us these islands were a stark contrast to the San Blas archipelago on the Caribbean side. With a new ocean comes a totally different set of environmental conditions; Las Perlas was unkempt, yet beautiful in its own wild way, and just absolutely full of life. After basking here for a week or so, we head back to Panama to do our final provision before our biggest crossing yet – the Pacific Ocean!! Doug DeVos’s Quantum Racing team exorcised memories of a disappointing third overall in the 2017 season when they clinched top honours at the first event of the highly anticipated 2018 52 SUPER SERIES, the Šibenik 52 SUPER SERIES Sailing Week contested on Croatia’s beautiful Dalmatian Coast. Lead by Terry Hutchinson with Dean Barker on the helm, Quantum Racing closed out the regatta title with a seventh in an eventful final light wind race to win by five points over Platoon, the team which were second overall last year. The first visit ever to Croatia for the TP52 class has proven immensely popular. The gentle sea breezes have been challenging but have kept the very evenly-matched fleet extremely close and compact. There have been no easy gains, pin sharp starting has been key to success. Five different TP52 teams have won races, Platoon (2), Quantum Racing (3), Sled, Paprec, and Provezza. We are on a mission to get from Kusadasi to Marmaris to repair our broken halyard but that doesn't stop us enjoying the journey and seeing some amazing sites along the way like Ancient Ephesus, the mountain town of Sirince and cute coastal anchorages. We are even brave enough to put up our Genneka for the second time (last time we ripped her in half) watch and find out if we rip her again!! We are the Robbins family sailing on our boat named Nikau. We are a family of 5. Our 3 kids are doing NZ correspondence school on board. They are growing to love it! What's not to love about 3 hours of school a day and then a different playground for the afternoon every day! We've traveled from New Zealand to Sardinia in Italy to pick up our boat and we plan over a few seasons to sail her back to New Zealand. We hope you enjoy following us on our adventures!
