It may only be 151 miles (243km) long, but it quickly rose up the list to be one of the best drives we've ever done. Not only is it scenic, but it's got a great history too as the road was built by returning servicemen after WWI and is the world's largest war memorial. The big attraction on the road, other than the road itself, is the 12 Apostles, which are incredible for sure, but we also really enjoyed the little sea side towns, seeing friends, doing a bit of hiking and even seeing some koalas in the wild. It was a phenomenal trip, topped off with a ferry ride across Port Phillip Bay and our arrival into Melbourne. This road trip may have been over, but we were far from finished with our Australian Tour. Thanks for watching! BAHAMAS BOUND, a half dozen draw bridges, and a midnight departure to the Gulf Stream!! This week we finish up our final details for shoving off - vet visits, provisioning, and fueling up. But we're soon sailing down the Intracoastal Waterway towards Palm Beach to stage ourselves for a hopefully-smooth Gulf Stream Crossing at the right angle to account for drift from the Stream's strong current. Along the way we run the gauntlet of a half dozen draw bridges, crash a marina pool, face off with a tug boat, and do some safety prep while at anchor at Lake Worth. This week we made progress on a lot of little tasks. None of these made me feel great about our progress, but getting many of them done was needed. We did some more awlwood preparation and applying the finish. We sanded the bowsprit again, and then applied primer to it. We found a serious problem with some stringers in the galley (Uggh). We also removed some old plumbing lines and removed some rotted cupboard bases.
