We have had our Torqeedo Travel 1003 for 8 months and our subscribers have requested a video about it and we have had many others interested in it. I show the rigging of the 'German System' mainsail sheet (continuous loop); I clean off tyre marks from a month in Iceland fishing ports; a few final pics of the exotic Faroe Islands; I set course for Scotland (225 NM away); and a Cargo ship (the Alethini) refuses to give way to me under full sails in the middle of the North Atlantic; I sail past the scenic Isle of Skye (Sound of Sleat). We quickly discovered that USB devises on a boat are a necessity - not a luxury and our screen time actually increased when we moved aboard. The two USB plugs we had on the boat were woefully inadequate to cope with charging our phones, tablets, kindles, GoPro and other devises that accompany a modern, mobile lifestyle which would end up in a pile on the nav table. So the only solution was to install a whole lot more outlets for our USB devises. Instead of running more wires through already congested conduits, we replaced the 70's style 24v bedside lights with car 24v USB plugs and here's how we did it! We finally make it to the other end of the Caledonian canal and once again set sail, after getting our sailing yacht back into the sea, on the west coast of Scotland. Our plan was to head for the Irish Sea before sailing over to Ireland, when said plans are rudely interrupted by a powerful storm, which meant changing course and sailing for shelter, whilst waiting for it to blow over. While we're still learning to sail, our yacht delivery skipper and sailing instructor, Eddie, is always on hand, keeping a very reassuring and watchful eye over proceedings. In Thursday’s episode, where we crossed the Equator, we also shared information about Mama Silvi’s tiny local resort, Ina Silvi Cottage. It's tucked away on Pulay Asu, an island off an island, off Sumatra island. It's a remote spot and only the most intrepid of travellers will search it out. We loved it. In this episode we explore our ABSOLUTE favorite spot in the Bahamas, Rocky Dundas and Rachel’s Bubble Bath. We wake up early to a beautiful sunrise and sail south before the tide drops too far. We don't want to get stuck on these shallow banks and sand bars. The wind started to pick up just as we raise the sails and we get to enjoy our breakfast while cruising along. We make a detor so we don't run aground although it did add an extra time to our sail. Our favorite saying is that it’s about the journey not the destination, so we have learned to accept the detritus as a part of the journey. As we approach Rocky Dundas we decide to anchor at Fowl Cay (AKA Chicken Cay). Once we drop the hook we realize the beach is private. So we will have to dinghy over to Rocky Dundas for Oona's walks. We head over to explore Rocky Dundas a little later than we wanted but we can always go back if the current is too strong. When we get there there is no one around. Perfect! we get the place to ourselves! There is a decent amout of coral surrounding the entrance to the south cave. When we enter the cave we're taken aback by how majestic it is. After having a little fun filming we swim back to the dinghy and work our way over to Rachel's Bubble Bath on Compass Cay here in the Exumas. There is a shallow river that takes you right to the bubble bath. The water is cold and we have the place again to ourselves for a bit. The waves come crashing in from the ocean over the rocks and into the pool causing you to fill like you are taking a lovely bubble bath. We set sail for Eleuthera which is over some deep deep blue water loaded with pelagic fish like Mahi-Mahi (aka Dolphin or Dorado). We always try to troll a lure or two behind our sailboat just in case we get lucky enough to sail by some dinner. Our luck was with us this day and we caught a huge Mahi Mahi! We left Starry Horizons in Kumai on the Indonesian side of Borneo in order to take a 2 night river tour deep into the rain forest of Tanjung Puting National Park. We were there for the orangutans, but we also saw lots of other wildlife, including several other types of monkeys and a night trek where we captured the only known footage of a Flat Headed Cat kitten in the wild. Jeff Merrill was one of the first yacht brokers to film a video, post it on YouTube and use it to promote a boat for sale. He has become fascinated with how videos tell the story so much better than any other avenue and he continues to rely on video as a way of communicating to an international audience. Since May of 2014, JMYS has embraced the use of short films to promote our trawler and tug listings. Almost all of our listings now include a video shoot; seller’s love it and buyers, after spending just a few minutes watching online, can get a real feel for the boat. We do things our way, which is a lot different than most other yacht brokers. You’ve seen them, the all too common video “walk through” where production consists of combining music to footage shot using an unsteady phone in the hands of a broker who is not paying attention to lighting, clutter and the surroundings. We want you to feel invited aboard and talk to you as if you are right there with us. Using this approach, we take time to point out features and wander through the boat to show you the space, access and layout. we call our listing promotional videos, #TalkThroughTours. The first few years of our YouTube channel featured Jeff doing all of the talking, but our individual brokers are getting in on the filming action now and it has become a lot more entertaining for everyone. Our clients love that they get to “meet” the brokers offering the listings and quickly see that our team knows what they are talking about. We take the extra time and expense to give you a realistic presentation so that you know what each boat is all about before you send us an email or pick up the phone to schedule your own appointment to get aboard. The JMYS You Tube channel in the early days did start out just shooting listings. After selling a trawler that was featured in a listing video, we add SOLD and kept them published as a resource for trawler fans. As we got more comfortable with the process of video and purchased the appropriate gear to improve our production, we started branching out. Our involvement with clients doing training after a purchase - answering a lot of the same questions and showing the same techniques over and over made it a natural step for us to shoot segments on common operational aspects of trawlers; like, what tools to have, how to change a strainer, using a windlass, etc. We have an in-depth series all about docking with our friend, Douglas Cochrane, called The Physics of Docking. There are so many topics to cover and it’s just too easy to “You-Tube-It” these days when you want to see how something is done. Please watch our #TrawlerSkills presentations to pick up a few tips and tricks. We’re certain our “how-it-can-be-done” explanations will improve your understanding of trawler equipment and systems. We meet some fascinating/interesting/independent/intriguing people in our workplace (on the docks and on board trawlers) which has opened up another type of video to offer. Im zweiten Teil nimmt unser Deck langsam Gestalt an. Auf die bereits gestrichene Vorstreichfarbe kommt im ersten Schritt 2 Schichten 2K Lack drauf. Leider verhindert anhaltender Regen, dass wir im Anschluss gleich weiter streichen können, von daher beschäftigen wir uns erst mal mit anderen Arbeiten. Unsere Luken werden epoxiert und Deckenplatten weiß gestrichen und LEDs eingebaut. Wir nutzen die Zeit auch um uns mit Kiwigrip etwas vertrauter zu machen. Dann wird wieder abgeklebt, geschliffen und sauber gemacht, damit wir die finale Schicht Kiwigrip aufbringen können. Mit dem Endergebnis sind wir mehr als zufrieden und mit den installieren neuen Wischen sieht das Deck wieder aus wie ein Segelboot. Auch mit der Verarbeitung von Kiwigrip als Anti-Rutsch Belag sind wir sehr zufrieden.
