Building a cruising sailboat This episode is all about answering some of your questions that you've asked over the last few weeks. I hope I've managed to take some time and answer them more fully than I could in a simple short written answer in the comments section. Some general thoughts on boat design and construction crop up along the way. These are my opinions; see what you think! The boat is constructed of exterior quality plywood, sealed with epooxy and sheathed in glass fibre and epoxy. One of the great beauties of these boats is that the ballast keel is fitted towards the end of the build, enabling the boat to be kept lower in the shed for most of the construction time. The keel and rudder are fitted shortly before launch. Thank you! Tony

Sharks seem to be the norm around your boat here in these atolls. And when we spear fish we have less than a minute to get that fish out of the water before we are surrounded by sharks. At time its a little scary but we are learning to love swimming with these creatures. The Tuamotus, also referred to in English as the Tuamotu Islands are a French Polynesian chain of almost 80 islands and atolls forming the largest chain of atolls in the world. We hit a number of these amazing spots in this episode. Hope you love it! We are the Robbins family sailing on our boat named Nikau. We are a family of 5. Our 3 kids are doing NZ correspondence school on board. They are growing to love it! What's not to love about 3 hours of school a day and then a different playground for the afternoon every day! We've traveled from New Zealand to Sardinia in Italy to pick up our boat and we plan over a few seasons to sail her back to New Zealand. We hope you enjoy following us on our adventures! We would love to hear from you. Especially if you are interested in doing something crazy like we are! Maybe we can help answer some questions you have? Thanks and enjoy.
In this episode I inspect the iron keel to hull joint, look at the barnacles on the propellor and shaft, review my original survey regarding the rudder bearing, and figure out the problem with the boat's main zinc anode attached to the bolts that join the systems on the boat as a 'bonded' boat. Basically, a view of the bottom to assess what needs to be done! An in-depth look at the hives I have. I am getting back to driving to save a few more dollars. And still working the plan. The boat is on hold for the moment while I do chores. I need to build this apiary for some income. The goal is 30 to 40 hives. 30 hives can produce 1800 lbs of honey. I am hoping to reach this goal in 3 to 5 years.
**NOW SOLD** Inspiration is a Catalina 36MkII that is now listed exclusively for sale with YOTI on Pittwater. https://www.yoti.com.au/listing/calalina-36mkii-inspiration The 36’s are a rarer find in Australia compared to the Catalina 34’s and the increase in size is noticeable where we need it most – the cockpit, saloon and the head / shower. The cockpit is large, safe and comfortable with very good access to the water via the large drop down swim ladder and removable centre helm seat plus the all important 'Princess seats' and full cockpit cushions. The galley is 'U' shaped with very deep fridge, loads of storage and double stainless sinks. There is a handy navigation station, large saloon with dining table that fully folds up out of the way opening up the space (the table also converts to another double berth). There is a large fully enclosed head with shower, a comfortable V berth and a double aft cabin (both cabins are private). Instruments are Raytheon (now Raymarine) and importantly include a proper linear drive auto-pilot. This is one of the later built 36’s and presents very well. The yacht has never been chartered and has logged only around 600 engine hours. Standing rigging was fully replaced in 2014. Available for inspection on Pittwater, contact Peter Mactier for further details and to arrange inspection.

Classical music can be heard everywhere, from the soundtracks in computer games to the incredible film scores. Classical music can ignite imaginations and creativity and it’s so important for children to get the opportunity to experience as much music as possible, from all genres. Even as a crossover artist it is harder to be accepted by the classical industry, however I believe that for the genre to stay alive for years to come it must become more accepting of alternative classical artists that have not followed a traditional path and embrace more performers and young people wanting to get involved. Some schools are struggling to bring music to thier pupils. I visited one such school bringing my music workshop to Wilberforce Primary School. I sang songs from my second album 'The Rhythm of Life' with the pupils. It was a great feeling seeing them enjoy songs from my album, joining in with the actions and singing at the top of thier voices!... You can take a look here at what we got up to.
Sorry, this is not much of a film, but then a lots been going on recently, and none of it has been sailing. But those of you that like Wayfarer dinghy's, sailing on the Medway, or just like to follow us and what we get up to, might find it interesting. Thanks for watching If you would like to leave a comment and find that YouTube has disabled them again on this film, then please take a look at the community tab on our page. We will leave a discussion open on there so that we can all have a chat about what has happened. We make these films just for fun, and we hope that you have enjoyed watching them however we have been asked on a couple of occasions now if we have a Paytreon account. We don’t want to do that at this stage as we feel it would turn the channel into a business, and as we said at the beginning, this is all just for fun. However if you would like to support us and feel you could help contribute to the cost of making these films then you can do that via our PayPal account here. https://www.paypal.me/TheFoxwellFamily And a big thank you to everyone that has supported us so far, its very much appreciated. We are sailing the remote pacific coast of Colombia on a traditional sailboat: After arriving in Ecuador, I travelled back to Colombia to help Maria bring down her traditional sailboat Joana. We arranged some of the trip as a ten day charter, hopping along the remote but stunning coast of Pacific Colombia. Our guests Robert, Ruud, Richard and Bub were part of the Crew and they helped with the daily chores like anchor and sail mannouvers, doing watches and dishes. We had a great time with those boys that made us call this trip the "off course cruise" due to some fun times at Joana's helm 😊 More about SV Joana on www.sailjoana.com Enjoy & Ahoy, Nike, Maria & Joana Download the full movie at www.UntieTheLines.com You can support our videos here: www.patreon.com/WhiteSpotPirates or https://www.paypal.me/whitespotpirates For real-time updates, visit: http://www.facebook.com/whitespotpirates http://www.instagram.com/whitespotpirates For background information on the journey visit www.WhiteSpotPirates.com Thanks for watching, liking, sharing and supporting these videos! It is time to start planking Arabella! This moment has been a long time coming and we are thrilled to be able to finally start this process. It does mean a bit of a learning curve though, so we had our friend Thad Danielson come back to the boat yard and help us through the process of marking out the starboard side garboard plank. The garboard plank is maybe the most important plank on the boat as it ties the frames down to the centerline. This is the place in the boat that is under some of the most strain. As the hull is buoyed up, the ballast and center line are trying to sink to the bottom of the ocean. Due to these two strains working against each other, many boats start to split right in this area and spring leaks. Therefore it is best to try to fit the largest and strongest garboard plank possible. We work with Thad to get this plank marked out by using a spiling batten and learn a new skill that we will be able to put to good use throughout the rest of the planking process. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. We leave Hollandaise lagoon and head to a very rolly anchorage at Iguana Island. Its our very own island where we muck around and Margarida goes native and climbs a coconut palm too high and then has trouble get back down again. Coconuts, racquetball and general kanoodling are the order for the day with a beach BBQ at the end. Give it thumbs a up if you liked this episode! DODGING PILINGS, DODGING BRIDGES, DODGING BOATS!!! All part of ESCAPING FORT LAUDERDALE to the ATLANTIC!! At long last, we cast the lines and sail away. :-) After a tumultuous process of buying our liveaboard sailboat and a frantic 3 days of moving aboard, we shove off from Fort Lauderdale en route to Brunswick, Georgia via the Atlantic Ocean. But when there's an airshow happening and every yahoo with a boat is boozing it up on the water in the canals, it makes for an interesting departure! But with 320 nautical miles to go, finally being on the ocean is the LEAST stressful part as well start our voyage with thunder, rain, and amazing sailing conditions. Enjoy!!
