Sailing is about the journey, not the destination and this episode is evidence of that. It begins on the fifth day of our 1,000 mile passage from North Carolina to Nova Scotia, Canada. We continue to encounter light but favorable winds and comfortable seas. As we make our way through the Atlantic we are visited by several pods of dolphins and just 40 miles off the coast of Canada happen upon a giant Mola Mola (or Sunfish) making it's way through calm waters. And best of all, our landfall in Nova Scotia could not have been more epic. We are treated to a spectacular sunset and an incredibly gorgeous coastline with exactly the Northern feel we were hoping for. Chegar em Fernando de Noronha com a sua casa é algo realmente mágico! Depois de uma Refeno, então, nem se fale! É muito legal a dinâmica de ficar no arquipélago durante essa semana. Um amigo descreveu muito bem: festa toda noite e ressaca em praias lindíssimas todo dia! Durante o dia a gente acaba encontrando os amigos pelas praias, tomando umas, comendo um petisco... Eu achava que Noronha era apenas para pessoas ricas, mas descobri que tem lugares democráticos também, almoçamos camarão e caldeirada por R$ 26,00 na Lojinha da Mãezinha. Uma grata surpresa! A Heineken na balada é R$ 16,00, mas também pode ser comprada gelada no mercado na Vila dos Remédios por R$ 6,00. As festas e baladas da Refeno cada noite são em um lugar diferente. Na primeira noite foi no Mergulhão, com um pôr do sol maravilhoso! A segunda foi no Muzenza, mas acabamos trocando por uma noite estrelada no cockpit do Barba Negra. Depois tivemos a festa da premiação oficial, no Museu do Tubarão e um Pôr do Sol de despedida no Bar do Cachorro. Mas a natureza e as praias são realmente o espetáculo de Fernando de Noronha! São várias, muito lindas e a maioria oferece motivos de sobra para fazer snorkel! Mas os mergulhos de Noronha merecem um episódio à parte!

We set sail for Queenborough for a spot of lunch from Gillingham Marina. #activevolcanoes #stromboli #sailingsicily We sail to the Aoelian Islands just North of Sicily and have one of our most exciting adventures hiking to the active volcano on the island of Vulcano. The first day we take a warm bath in the sulphur mud and the next day we take a long hike up to the crater of Vulcano, we walk around the crater and observe the sulphur steaming out from the ground and learn quite a bit about vulcanoes which is great for our schooling. The sail to Stromboli , a recently active vulcano and are called up by the Italian coastguard and asked to remain 2 nautical miles offshore. So we quickly motor sailed away in case of any serious eruptions and headed to the Italian mainland. We are a family with 3 children and make our own electricity and water, homeschool the kids and do our own boat maintenance. Our dream of cruising and exploring the world's oceans is matched with a desire to live a more off-grid and sustainable lifestyle. A background as RYA instructors, flotilla skippers and RNLI crew only partly prepared us for the challenges of this live-aboard lifestyle! Hi everyone, For the past few days Drake has been resting and recuperating after extensive dental surgery.  He hasn't been able to edit this week's episode about our voyaging in Greenland. Instead of going for another week without publishing a new video, here's one of our many real time updates that we posted on our Patreon page just a week after we filmed it. To see more videos like this join our Patreon community at https://www.patreon.com/DrakeParagon When we pushed off from Stornoway to sail to Faroe everything was going well, that is until we started using the jib. As you saw in the last video, the port side jib winch seized within the first hour or two of our sail making it impossible to use. We were close enough that turning around would have been simple, but that was something that neither of us really wanted to do. The weather had not been cooperating and our intended push off date of 1 May had come and gone and now, nearly two weeks later (with some very expensive transient rates) we were eager to leave. Drake ended up running the port side jib sheet across the cockpit and over to the starboard side winch which worked well enough for our 285 nautical mile sail to Faroe, but was definitely not a long term solution. The winch needed to be serviced and we were crossing our fingers that there was no irreparable damage. Therefore, on a sunny day in Faroe Drake, with a little help from our friends, serviced our Barient winch and filmed the whole process for you guys.
