Yes, there came friends and thieves aboard. An act of piracy happened in this peaceful bay. We are in peaceful Tarrafal, where the schooner Oosterschelde anchors regularly. Where tourists come and visit. And as well our French friend Lola, which we met a year and a half ago in Mindelo. The thieves came stealing on Saturday night while crews were on land having a good time. They swam from shore, climbed aboard with knives. Tied, gagged and blindfolded three men aboard a charter yacht next to us about 50 meters away. Meanwhile we are having a good time. The thieves forced the men a knife point to hand over all cash, valuables and electronics as well as a waterproof bag. They swam away with the goods. The localisation signal from the stolen phones indicated they were in Praia a two hours drive away. Luckily no one was injured. Some say it’s The Best Sailing Channel on YouTube! We take our boat to the mythical Isle of Skye in Scotland, and explore all the hidden treasures it has to offer. Making a day sail down from our previous anchorage in Lochinver, we enter the harbour of Portree just as the sun is setting, and do our best to find a spot to anchor that is hidden from the swell wrapping in. The next day is filled with cruising life chores, such as getting provisions, doing laundry, and filling up our diesel. Once the chores are done though, it's time to have some fun! WELCOME TO SEASON 1! Even though this is not the beginning of our struggle, we invite you to one of the most in-depth refits happening on YouTube. Having only done a handful of work prior on this boat project, this is an awesome opportunity to see the full build process on our 1962 CSK Catamaran. This episode covers a little about the beginnings of our most recent project, refitting a sailing catamaran as a liveaboard for under $50k. We recently pulled it out of the water to prevent it from sinking and have a lot of work to do. Other topics covered include our quest to find the best method to removing 50 year old bottom paint, like sanding, sandblasting, paint strippers, and more! We also talk a little about hull repair, woodwork, rib repair and more. Sanding strategies tried in this episode: - Citrus Strip, worked, but was not cost effective. - Aqua Strip, didn't work too well, comparable to Citrus Strip but more expensive. - Jasco Paint Remover (spray), worked the best of all products for us. - Jasco Paint Remover (gel), was least effective . . . fancy that. - Angle Grinder, a possible solution, but damages the fiberglass too much. - Sanding only, sucks. It can be done, but takes too many man hours. Woodworking strategies in this episode: - Gorilla Glue Wood Glue, works very well. Not waterproof or submersible, but held under pressure for about 48 hours submersed before failing. - Bondo Epoxy Filler, works very well in the joints to seal and protect the repairs.
