Of course you can order the stuff you need online. But why? To buy the courtesy flags for our planned trip to Israel and Cyprus we decided to sail to the next bigger town, Fethiye. March turned out to be the perfect month for great sailing in Turkey. Wind, sun and no other boat around. The harbors are empty, the bays abandoned. We had a whole island for ourselves. Gemiler is a historic site where Saint Nicholas was buried before his body was moved first to Myra and then Italy. At least, that's what some people say. We discovered this amazing island while walking the dog. Actually sailing with a dog is a great experience because you have to stop at places you normally would pass. Even in strong winds up to 27 knots the dog felt save in our 30 year old Moody 425, ready to start in a great season in the Med.

With no racing possible on the final day of the Odzala Discovery Camps 52 SUPER SERIES V&A Waterfront Cape Town regatta, the 2019 circuit champions Azzurra lift the first series title of the 2020 season. Racing in South Africa for the first time ever represented something of a voyage of discovery for the 52 SUPER SERIES owners and crews, but the 10 teams from eight nations were rewarded with good racing in a variety of wind conditions, including a visit from the strong Cape Doctor wind, all set against the spectacular backdrop of Table Mountain and the Lion’s Head, whilst embracing the lively, colourful, friendly welcome at the city’s V&A Waterfront. Victory for Azzurra was underpinned by a dream debut for new tactician Michele Paoletti, the Italian-Argentine team actually winning their first series regatta since September 2017. After finishing runners up at four of last year’s five regattas, the Azzurra team were delighted to prove they can win regattas as well as secure the season long championship, which they have won four times.

In this episode, Eddie crews and we sail Keeldragger to Newport Beach. Winds are light, but we manage to motor sail. One grey whale sighting along the way. We anchored at the cruiser anchorage off Lido Island. The anchorage was a big busy--a large raft of patriotic motor boats and a sailboat race a few feet away. We discovrered the tank on the dinghy outboard holds a little less gas than we needed. Next time we'll figure out the washdown pump for the anchor.. ..
