It has been a long term goal to make it from the Pacific Ocean across to the Caribbean via the incredible human feat that is the Panama Canal. It was an experience, to say the least! Our family had an amazing time in Indonesia. We explored waterfalls and a traditional village on Lombok. Checked out the monkey forest, a rice plantation, Tirta Empul, and drank luwak coffee in Ubud. Then spent a wonderful few days enjoying the beach in Nusa Dua and Uluwatu.

In Cagliari it was a slightly more overcast affair with a dynamic weather system over the Bay of Angels and the constant threat of rain showers. A shifting wind that gradually built to 12 knots but averaged 10 knots was more than enough for Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli to rifle through their standard training drills over a near four-hour afternoon training session but the introduction of marks and a virtual starting box indicated a whole new shift in direction. INEOS Britannia arguably put in the performance of the day, lighting the after-burners and just looking better and better as the southerly wind came up into the afternoon. In the lighter airs around midday, flight was easily attainable and the British elected to ride high with a bow-down profile but as soon as the breeze came up, ‘RB3’ just hunkered down into that delicious squat position, exercising the aft bustle and end-plating better than anyone we’ve seen so far. What a day for New York Yacht Club American Magic who called for all-hands on deck at the base super-early this morning, ahead of rolling out their new AC75 at 5.45am with the first set of slightly asymmetric race foils, rudder and rig all in place and revealing an interesting deck layout putting the helms and trimmers side by side and well forward. In those conditions, the new AC75 didn’t just perform, it excelled and showed a small glimpse of its enormous potential. Twitchy, fast and highly responsive, when set on its new starboard foil, the boat looked like a rocket-ship and more than a handful for the helm and trim teams. The commissioning of RB3 is going well and today was the moment to show its potential with Sir Ben Ainslie and Dylan Fletcher-Scott starting to sail the boat supremely smoothly and with growing confidence in the platform. For Alinghi Red Bull Racing this was a stunning day on the water as the ultimately committed Swiss extend their on-water training time and, of all the challengers, are impressively taking huge steps forward as they dial in to the curiosities and demands of the new AC75. For INEOS Britannia it was the second day of commissioning the muscular and highly technical ‘RB3’ so understandably the byword was ‘caution’ for the day with flight only taken upwind as the team get used to everything onboard. The boat popped quickly in the waters off Badalona to the north of Barcelona and from there the team started to quite easily execute foiling tacks on the bigger span foils. I attended the Jeanneau media week in Cannes and had this brief opportunity to run the new DB37 with Yamaha outboards. These media days are designed for traditional media where 5 - 10 journalists all jump on the boat for 1 hr and get about 10 minutes each to test the boat, so while I was fourtunate enough to get the boat to myself it's in no way what I would consider a test. I normally spend between 5 - 8 hours onboard every boat I film so trying to understand a boat in less than an hour is not easy.
