With comparatively low fuel consumption, we have created a hull that can take her owners on long passages, and the stability and comfortable ride means they will enjoy the voyage. The volume of the hull is quite large for her LOA, and lets us use the available space to create a more open layout than is common on a boat of this size, with lines of sight and headroom to reflect that of a much larger yacht. The Saxdor 400GTO has all the hull characteristics of a fast and efficient twin stepped hull. But this new design with the roof, drop down sides and an interior layout that will transform to suit so multiple requirements is truly ahead of it's time in my opinion. Once again Sakari (Head Designer) has created a boat that both looks cool, performs great but is also priced very competitive and performs more like your own 'Private Island' instead of just a boat to take you places. I was imagining myself spending a whole summer living onboard this boat in Sydney which is not a dream I have ever had for an Adventure Boat. That's the difference to this design - it is going to welcome a lot more people into this category because they will look at the 400GTO and realise how well they can fit it into their own Boat Life. Is it perfect - No. I'm yet to find a perfect boat and I found a bunch of small improvements that I think Saxdor would benefit from implementing. Are they things that would stop me from taking a bet on this boat - No. I think this will win Boat of the Year for it's category in 2025 because when you consider price, performance and layout it's going to be hard to beat. The temperature has been perfect and we’ve had some incredible anchorages nearly to ourselves in one of the most beautiful cruising grounds in the world. But there is one major downside to sailing this early in the season. Fierce storms roll through this region in spring, and when they do it can feel like god is tearing a hole through reality. Plus it’s difficult to find good shelter here because the mountainous terrain causes the winds to wrap in unpredictable ways, so we can never be certain if we’re protected from forecasted winds. And the extremely deep anchorages make finding a safe spot to drop the hook a real challenge. Last week after being surprised by some strong winds that appeared out of nowhere, we sought the refuge of a small marina tucked away in a long, narrow bay. And when the forecasts started calling for a storm to come through the area, we decided to stay in the marina until it passed since this bay appeared to have good protection from the forecasted wind direction. Ep 90 - Searching for Manatees with Sailing Life on Jupiter and Sailing Free Spirit Today, Jamie and Princess from Sailing Life on Jupiter were in the area and we decided to meet up and show them the local wildlife! Manatees!! We took More Better out for a day trip to Crystal River to cruise around Kings Bay and 3 Sisters where the manatees usually hide for the winter. Oakley and His Royal Majesty King George were along of the trip. Both were equally jealous of the other and their respective mommies. But they got along well after a while. They even went for swim. Later we stopped off for some dinner and finished out the day with dessert before we parted ways and they continued on their journey and we returned back to our lives. This was a good day to be on a foiling yacht, sitting above the waves, not so good on a Chase Boat trying to keep up with three AC75s easily busting through 40 knots at times but Barcelona was beautiful and delivered in style. An offshore mistral brought in a building afternoon sea-breeze that whipped up the wave-forms as they approached the man-made sunken reefs that dot around the beachfront and made sailing more than challenging at times for INEOS Britannia, NYYC American Magic and Alinghi Red Bull Racing. We have waited a while to see it, but today Barcelona delivered a solid 17-20 knots of south-south-westerly breeze and gave NYYC American Magic, the only team out on the water on Monday, the chance to open the throttles and show the outrageous performance of a new-gen AC75 in all its glory. Tall mountains surround numerous protected bays and dense forests loom over the crystal clear water. Honestly on the surface it seems perfect. But these mountains create extremely deep anchorages so boaters are forced to anchor very close to land and tie lines ashore. This situation can be very dangerous if strong winds come from the wrong direction, which is actually not all that uncommon here since the wind wraps around the mountains in unpredictable ways. So you can never be certain that you are truly protected. And that’s a bit hard to stomach when our home and everything we own and love hang in the balance. Now if you cruise this area in the summer, the weather is for the most part calm and predictable, but you’ll have to share it with about 7 billion other boats. So we’re here in the spring and although the anchorages aren't too crowded, the weather is at times volatile and unpredictable. So we’ve got to learn how to cope with these unique challenges if we’re going to survive one of the most beautiful cruising grounds we’ve ever experienced. But first we’ve got to make the 50 nm sail from our current anchorage at Serce Limani, where we’ve been for the past week enjoying a bit of isolation and off-grid living. From the recent days of relatively calm sailing, today Barcelona reminded all involved in the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup that it’s a venue to be treated with caution and respect as a residual southerly swell mixed with a sharp north-easterly wind chop that filtered in and whipped up a mean average of 1 metre waves to make it interesting. Still in the grips of the slow-moving Atlantic high-pressure system however, winds were in the 7-13 knot range but at the upper end it showed just how potent the new AC75 designs really are.
