With the America’s Cup teams sailing everyday in Barcelona this summer, it’s getting busy out there. The teams love seeing other people out there enjoying the sea and like them when you’re out sailing safety should be one of your main priorities. The last time the America’s Cup was in Spain, the yachts were doing 10 knots. Now they do 50 knots, 100 kph and their maneuvers are fast and can be very hard to predict. From their perspective, spectators and other boats are almost stationary objects. If you see them coming, slow down or better yet, stop. Don’t try and turn or speed up to try and avoid them. They will always avoid you. Welcome, to Indigo Lady. This WAS a 2002 44' Voyager sailing catamaran. But then was converted into a fully solar electric powered vessel. With 7,200 watts of solar panels, and a total 32kwh lithium battery bank. This boat has gone just as far as my own sailboat. We finish the prep work on our new Hallberg Rassy 44 just in time to catch the horrible weather all the way down to the Baltic. The new boat nearly winds up on the rocks as we leave Ellös. With the America’s Cup teams sailing everyday in Barcelona this summer, it’s getting busy out there. The teams love seeing other people out there enjoying the sea and like them when you’re out sailing safety should be one of your main priorities.
