We leave the island of Antigua behind for an overnight sail to St Martin / Sint Maarten. The trip was only around 100 NM but was much slower than we thought as the forecast wind was much lighter. We made it to the anchorage at Baie de Marigot, St Martin where we stayed for a few days. There is plenty of room to anchor. It can be rolly at times. Allyson had done the online check-in process for the French side here: https://www.demarches-simplifiees.fr/ Access to the lagoon is via a lifting bridge: St Martin/Sint Maarten bridge times https://www.marinafortlouis.com/bridge-opening-times.html Once inside there is plenty of room to anchor but you must keep a close eye on your depth as it is very shallow in places. We spent around a week at anchor outside and then went into Geminga boatyard to redo the antifouling and change anodes. The boatyard owners are extremely helpful and friendly. English is spoken, but limited. Don’t miss this interview with Paul Hesse. He tells of his sailing adventures on a Viking ship across the Atlantic and North Sea; going on the old Norse route from Norway to Greenland in a 40 ft. sailboat; and some of his heavy weather experiences on Lake Superior. What he did and saw was extraordinary. The Viking ship unfortunately cracked a plank in the North Atlantic. With a large pump to keep ahead of the incoming water, the crew successfully caulked the plank. However, it required close watching and continuing maintenance. There was, of course, consideration to turn back towards Newfoundland, but the Norwegian skipper just declared: “No! No! No! We’re going to Norway!” And they did. However, Hesse thought his sailing voyage from Norway to Greenland was even more interesting than his Viking voyage. The experience, as well as the scenery, was spectacular. He also touches on sailing Lake Superior with family and friends. He has been out there in some of the heavy weather for which the upper Great Lake is so infamous.

Bedruthan Steps, one of Cornwall’s most dramatic coastlines, has had its beach access closed for years — but in this video, Colin discovers the steps for himself. The National Trust officially closed access to the beach due to safety concerns, saying the steps and handrails were unsafe. But when Colin reached the gate, it wasn’t locked at all. Carefully walking down, he found the 120 stone steps still intact, although the handrail has rusted away in most places. Join us as we explore this legendary beach from a rare perspective. In this episode we continue sailing around the Mentawai islands in Indonesia, and anchored a little too close for comfort when waves start to break right off our transom! We end up spending some time at one of the nicest and longest running resorts in the area, before setting sail again to the northern islands... We’ve been busy on Isabella with DIY, topless sunbathing, and fun too. After some detective work we located the source of a small leak in the galley. A boat should not leak! Steve removed the stanchion which was the area where water managed to leak into the galley. He worked his magic and ta-da, no more leak. Still improving the cockpit appearance, we straightened and cleaned a dirty crooked winch handle holder. It looks so much better now. Most exciting of all, we installed a portable washing machine with a spinner. It was touch and go there at first, watch the video to see what happened in the end. With all that DIY, lots of materials and tools get pulled out from everywhere and typically end up in the salon. Moving through that area becomes a hassle. It’s not all work, work, work. We did take some time to visit a few local bars, Karen did some sunbathing and Steve enjoyed the view on and from the boat. Always trying to keep exercise in our routine, Karen proved she can still jump rope, well...kind of. We are so thankful for the support of our subscribers!
