Join me, Ryan the Rogue Rigger on my journey of restoring a Mach 2 International Moth that I picked up earlier this year. I plan on upgrading it with all the modern systems with out breaking the bank and then I will take you along for the steep learning curve of learning to sail this Tasmanian devil of a boat. I have dreamed of owning one of these since they first came out back in 2008 when I got to take one for a spin. It was an unreal experience/feeling that I have been chasing ever since. At the time they were crazy expensive to buy and not in my budget. These days they are still crazy expensive to buy new, now there are a lot of older moths on the second hand market that are relatively affordable (Less than a Laser/ILCA in this case). For those of you who don't know, an International Moth is a single handed 11 foot long hydro foiling sailboat. These boats literally fly over the water on two hydrofoils doing speeds 2-3 times the speed of the wind. This video shows the upgrading of my moth boom. I remove the internal Cunningham system, removing old mainsheet and boom vang rigging. Bunch of carbon laminate work and putting it all back together in time to go sailing. Enjoy!
Why are catamaran prices in Florida suddenly crashing? For years, the catamaran market was untouchable—sky-high prices and zero inventory. But now, the tide has turned. Listings are sitting longer, price cuts are happening daily, and well-known cruising cats are selling for significantly less than they were just two years ago. In this video, we investigate the 5 Massive Factors causing the Florida catamaran market to cool down in 2026: The Charter Dump: Why the influx of ex-charter fleets from the Caribbean is flooding the market. The Insurance Crisis: How hidden hurricane damage and skyrocketing premiums are forcing owners to sell. The Cost of Ownership: The reality of rising marina fees and haul-out rates for wide-beam vessels. Changing Trends: Why buyers are shifting toward performance cats and monohulls. The Pandemic Hangover: The wave of "dreamers" who are finally waking up to the hard work of cruising. Is this the perfect time to buy a catamaran, or are you catching a falling knife? Watch this before you make an offer. ⏱️ CHAPTERS: 00:00 Intro: The Catamaran Market Shift 01:16 1. Too Many Charter Cats Flooding the Market 03:15 2. Automatic Identification Systems (AIS) grew out of military need to quickly identify friend from foe, but in the marine world, they have quickly become an indispensable tool for figuring out who is going where, when "that boat" will cross our path and even a method for regulatory agencies to provide us with navigational information in near real time. With the blending of AIS and the Internet, you can determine the name, registry and destination of vessels up and down the coastlines. Join Captains Tom Tursi and Frank Mummert, as they welcome Captain Ali Soylu, instructor for Maryland School of Sailing, in a discussion of what AIS can do for us and where we should be wary.

We’re mid-passage sailing south down Australia’s east coast as cyclone season approaches, making the most of the northerly winds while navigating busy coastal waters. This passage quickly proves why offshore sailing always demands vigilance, experience, and constant double-checking. What begins as a routine offshore passage soon delivers unexpected challenges, reinforcing the importance of situational awareness, visual navigation, and never relying on charts alone. As we sail through one of the largest shipping anchorages on the east coast, weaving between anchored commercial vessels, we share the real-world decisions and lessons that come with full-time cruising. From uncharted rocks and cross-checking visual references to managing traffic in high-use waters, this episode captures the reality of offshore sailing — unscripted, dynamic, and always changing. Join us as we continue our journey south and share what life is truly like living and sailing full-time as a family aboard our boat. - The Jameses xx ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ❤️ Support the Channel on Patreon Want to help keep these videos coming? Sailboat Solar Upgrade: This Solar Upgrade is a Game Changer For Our Liveaboard Sailboat Episode 102
Living aboard a sailboat means every upgrade turns into a full-on boat project — and in this episode of our liveaboard sailing journey, we’re taking on a major solar and battery upgrade while docked in the marina. As we prepare our sailboat for long-term cruising and sailing around the world, reliable power on board is essential, and that means tearing into the boat and dealing with the chaos that comes with it. To install our new solar power system and battery bank, we had to completely clear out the cabin, turning our floating home into a construction zone. This is real boat life — messy, challenging, and incredibly rewarding. If you’re a sailboat owner, beginner sailor, or dreaming of travelling the world by sailboat, this episode gives an honest look at what it takes to upgrade and maintain a cruising sailboat while living aboard full-time. While we’re stuck in the marina, we make the most of it by knocking over a long list of liveaboard boat jobs. From maintenance tasks to small repairs, these marina days are all about preparing our sailboat for future offshore sailing and extended cruising. This is the behind-the-scenes side of liveaboard sailing around the world that doesn’t always make it into the highlight reels. Of course, life aboard isn’t all work. When the tools get packed away, we escape the marina and head to the beach for a refreshing swim — a reminder of why we chose this lifestyle in the first place. It’s all about balance: hard work on the boat, freedom on the water, and enjoying the simple moments in between. If you’re interested in sailing, boats, off-grid solar systems, sailboat upgrades, or the realities of living on a sailboat, this episode is for you. Follow along as we share the highs, the mess, and the lessons learned while preparing our home to sail further, stay longer, and live more independently at sea. It's been two years since our first sail in @SailingAstridTheWombat actually that means it's been two years since our first sail ever. That's right two years ago we bought this Beneteau Oceanis 430 and pulled the sails up for the first time ever when we brought her home. A sail that stretched 700 nautical miles from Townsville in Far North Queensland Australia to Moreton Bay in Brisbane Queensland. Each experience we have and each new sailing skill learnt just keeps bringing us closer to taking off to sail around the world in our Beneteau Oceanis 430 @SailingAstridTheWombat living our boat life dream. We bought our Beneteau Oceanis 430 in October 2023 with zero sailing experience but the belief that we can do this. We have filmed our journey from looking for boats, buying the boat and downsizing our house so we can liveaboard and all the messy wonderful life stuff in between. Join us now as we settle into liveaboard life and get our boat ready to take off and sail around the world. As new sailors we want to share all of our learnings and keep it real in our videos. We want to show step by step what it takes to choose a boat, buy the boat and learn how to sail. Our sailing learning curve is steep so come along with us as we learn and grow as liveaboard sailors. This project has been a long time coming! In this episode, we finally finish and install the custom carbon fiber table for the roof of our sailing catamaran, starting from a bare foam core and ending with a professional level finish.... we hope! 😅 A full-blown composite build, we cut and shape the foam core, epoxy everything together, fiberglass the entire structure, then move on to the stages of filling, fairing, sanding, and sanding again. Once we were happy with the shape, it was time for gel coat, followed by more finishing work to get it looking just right. To take it from “good DIY” to something that looks pretty pro,, Nino steps in to work his magic and bring the final finish together. The result is a table that not only looks the part but is strong, lightweight, and perfectly suited to life on a boat. This video is a full behind-the-scenes look at what it really takes to tackle a carbon fiber-style project on a liveaboard sailboat, the positive attitude, the learning curve, and the moment it’s finally bolted into place. Eddie Cox from Melges walks us through the design intent, sailing characteristics, and deck hardware that shape the Melges 19. Filmed at Melges headquarters in Zenda, Wisconsin, the Harken team spent time with the Melges crew to get a closer look at how the boat was designed, how it’s meant to be sailed, and why specific deck systems were chosen. The Melges 19 delivers a light, responsive feel on the water while remaining approachable and easy to manage — making it an exciting platform for both performance-minded sailors and those looking to enjoy time on the water with family and friends. Every detail supports intuitive trimming, reliability, and confidence across a wide range of conditions. Watch as Eddie breaks down the thinking behind the setup, the role of deck hardware in performance and usability, and what makes the M19 such a versatile, fun boat to sail. 🔔 Subscribe for more sailing content, boat walk-throughs, and behind-the-scenes stories from Harken and our partners. -- Visit Harken 👉 https://bit.ly/Harken_
Out in the Atlantic ocean we lost the use of 2 sails But we didn't turn around. We could only sail one way and we were hoping that it would get us there. We didn't want to risk running the motors for 14 days without a break. So sailing wing on wing had to work. We could only sail dead down wind so we needed to watch the wind and hope to sail in a straight line for 14 days, if you know sailing then you know how much luck we needed. Don't forget we are in real time so what you see is exactly what is happening each week! See you next Friday! Taking delivery of a new yacht is a milestone, but for a Privilege Catamaran owner, the handover process is an entirely different caliber of experience. In this video, shared with us by the Privilege shipyard in Les Sables-d'Olonne, we go behind the scenes to see exactly what happens when an owner receives the keys to their new "Home at Sea." Why the Privilege Handover is Different While many production shipyards offer a few hours of orientation and a quick signature, Privilege provides a comprehensive, multi-day onboarding process. Because every Privilege is semi-custom, the handover is tailored to the specific systems and bespoke features of your vessel. What to Expect During a Privilege Handover: Direct Access to the Craftsmen: Meet the engineers and artisans who built your boat to understand every technical nuance. In-Depth System Mastery: Beyond a basic walkthrough, owners receive intensive training on the advanced electrical, plumbing, and navigation systems. The Atlantic Sea Trial: Conduct your final shakedown cruise in the demanding waters of the Bay of Biscay, ensuring your yacht is truly offshore-ready. Bespoke Documentation: Receive a personalized "Owner’s Manual" specific to your hull’s unique configuration, not just a generic handbook. Direct After-Sales Relationship: Meet the dedicated After-Sales Manager who will be your point of contact for the life of the vessel. Start Your Build Journey with The Multihull Company As the Official US Partner for Privilege Marine, The Multihull Company bridges the gap between the American sailor and the French shipyard. Our brokers—all experienced captains—accompany our clients through the entire build and handover process to ensure a seamless transition into yacht ownership. ⚓ Explore the Privilege Signature Series: https://privilegecatamarans.com/ 📩 Speak with a Privilege Specialist: info@multihullcompany.com | +1-215-508-2704 📍 Meet Us in Person this Spring! Join us on our latest "retirement adventures". We are a sailing couple living aboard our yacht, Seagull. This week, we are on a moored on a buoy at "Lamlash", a beautiful spot between Arran and the Holy island. Experience the joys of "boat life" and the stunning scenery of "Scotland" with us, before we set sail across the North Channel to Ireland. It is known for its strong tides and being a challenging passage requiring careful timing and seamanship. Thanks for watching!
