Bob and Steve finish fitting the black locust beam shelf into Arabella. This involves some pattern making and a whole slew of hooked scarfs to be cut. While Bob does the final few fits on the shelf, Steve launches into finding the strong (king) deck beam locations. Right before Bob heads back to his shop he and Steve select some likely deck beam timbers and Steve gets to work cutting them out. It's sure been a lot of fun working on the deck structure and the good times have just begun! If you have not watched any of Bob's videos check them out here! https://www.youtube.com/user/bobemser Thanks for following and supporting our endeavor. We could not produce these weekly videos without your help! Thank you! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. After months of refits, it's finally time to begin launching our 30 ft electric sailboat Ixion. We are one step closer to beginning our journey sailing around the world starting with Cape Cod. Water floats our boat, wink wink nudge nudge. Before we can watch the boat get lowered into the water, we have to finish installing some electronics. What would an electric motor be without modern day systems to compliment it? Of course though, the boat projects continue! First one on the water is removing a pole that got stuck in our mast. Electric Motor Conversion, Fresh coat of bottom paint, and fancy new electronics. We are almost ready to begin our sail south to Florida! Don't forget to subscribe to watch as we begin our new journey. Comment below, and don't forget to give us a thumbs up! —————————————————————————- Who we are: Nick and Jake, gay sailor and filmmakers fresh from Los Angeles currently living in Cape Cod. We know our Beneteau 49 has a damaged grid. But we don't know how extensive that damage is, yet. This week we DIY our way to removing the interior furniture to see just how broken she is. Turns out the couch and other items really weren't designed to be removed very easily! Hang on as we fight and struggle with our boat to get access to the grid hidden below! Thanks for watching- With love The Evans' **************************************** *Our Boat* 2008 Beneteau 49 3 cabin 2 head 4JH4-TE Westerbeke generator Mast, sails and rig are in excellent condition and in storage Here's what we *think* we know about her past. Keep in mind we bought her at auction without ever meeting the owner! The owner was sailing along and ran aground - hard. Hard enough that the keel pivoted and pushed the aft end up into the hull. This force cracked the internal grid in several places and broke a portion of the grid free from hull. At some point an inspection was done, insurance was called and decisions were made. Sometimes it's nice to go off the beaten path while sailing and this is exactly what we did in Andros Island. Fresh Creek doesn't see many sailors and we had it to ourselves. The locals took us in and we really experienced a unique Bahamas. From a lesson in the back of someone's truck on how to crack conch shells to hermit crab racing on an island to cliff jumping into Captain Bill's Blue hole or being taught which plants to eat we were loving the island life. Andros Island is home to the third largest fringing barrier reef and also has the world's greatest amount of Blue holes. A perfect spot on our sailing journey in the Bahamas. If you like what you see don't forget to give us the thumbs up! #sailing #sailingbahamas #androsisland ***************************************** Help the videos stay alive by becoming a patron, donating or becoming a YouTube Member.

We’re sailing. Karen is looking great in her bikini. Went out on Saturday with little wind. Sunday the air picked up. Used our Kobalt drill and Winch Bit to make our winches electric. Call me lame but it's nice to use when raising the main or even trimming the genoa. Tried sailing to the islands to see what was happening on the Labor Day weekend. Not a lot of wind on that day so motored halfway. There were lots of boats and even a seaplane. Adjusted the Dutchman once again, still may not be tuned well, but does make flaking the mainsail easier. We eventually saw up to 7 kts close hauled with about 15 deg of lean in 15 kt air. The mainsail is a little tired. The fixed prop slows us down a bit. Perhaps a feathering or folding is in the future. Thank you to our subscribers! We appreciate your support. You can also follow us on: www.instagram.com/sailingintermission https://linktr.ee/sailingintermission If you like our videos, please Subscribe and support our channel. About us: We sail, fish (haha), dance, fly the drone, sometimes wear bikinis, DIY, ride the motorcycle, listen to great music, and enjoy life. Having fun on a Catalina 42. Older sailors don't have a clew when to quit; they just keep lubing their winches.

We run from a Mistral wind in the South coast of France as we make our way from the Iles du frioul, outside of Marseilles, to La Ciotat. Passing by the Calanques. The seas become lumpy rather quickly, Luckily we were prepared for it. Nadiyana battles with her seasickness, she's decided the best remedy is patience and persistance. We go over how to install a distributor coil on our jeep. The ignition coil is responsible for sparkage making the booms that come from the tailpipe. The reason we thought it was the coil is that our tailpipe booms were sputtering and performance sucked at times. Another reason we picked this place to start is the Ignition Coil is so easy to replace. Symptoms of a Bad or Failing Ignition Coil, if you are looking for the flux capacitor we talked out, check with the doc. 1. Engine misfires, rough idle, and loss of power Common symptoms associated with a failing distributor coil are engine performance issues. This will cause sputtering, loss of power, misfires, and rich conditions reported to the O2 sensor. See that video where we replaced the O2 sensor. https://youtu.be/a1y-81EPXe4 2. Check Engine Light comes on We had our code, and for our jeep, it was vague saying that it could be the O2 sensor or up. We are in Florida so a check engine light does not mean we fail registration, but for all yall in emission required places, this is bad. See this video for how to get your Jeep OBD codes without a reader. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1y-81EPXe4&t=89s 3. The car is not starting Now for all yall with multiple coil ignition, a coil failure you can still limp home. Our Jeep only has one coil so if it completely fails, we are walking. If you think your ignition coil is the issue, they aren't that much to replace. Here is a link for this coil for the YJ. https://amzn.to/32XY1CL If you prefer Advance Auto Parts: https://advanceautoparts.rt8x.net/ChrisDoesWhat Jump To In Video: 00:00 Intro How To Replace A Distributor Coil 00:59 How To Remove A Distributor Coil 03:04 How To Install A Distributor Coil 04:58 We go over the after install Check out our shop on our website for branded gear: https://www.chrisdoeswhat.com/our_shop/ Support us by shopping through our Affiliate Links! Fellow boaters - I'm thrilled to share my latest project with you: MaintenanceROS! Crafted from my experiences aboard Starry Horizons, it's designed to simplify vessel and maintenance management, making life on the water even more enjoyable. Explore https://MaintenanceROS.com and enjoy an exclusive 20% discount for the first 6 months using promo code 'outchasingstars'. Seamlessly manage your boat's upkeep – let's embark on this journey together! ***** We haven't had much luck with our big blue spinnaker, but this passage was our worst moment yet. The furler got jammed, the tack line chaffed through, the bowsprit block exploded and then the sail got dumped into the water when we tried to get the sail down on deck. Talk about a nightmare! The only good news of all this is that it happened at the beginning of our passage to Brazil and the rest of the sail was way less dramatic! Thanks for watching! (Footage from February 2020) Read more about our passage on our blog: https://outchasingstars.com/sailing-from-saint-helena-to-brazil-our-spinnaker-takes-a-hit/ Curious for more up to date info on where we are and what we're doing? HOW WE BUILT MAMA BEAR - Part 3 In today's video we share our cheap and easy DIY Water System/Plumbing for our kitchen sink, shower, toilet and also our Berkey Water Filter for drinking in Mama Bear our Toyota Hiace Sbv Camper Van. We decided on easy plumbing for our camper van just to keep things simple. We also didn't want to spend extra money on external water tanks, plumbing etc. We've been happy with our cheap and easy DIY water system/plumbing for 3 years and we hope you find our tips useful for your van life journey. In total we carry 20 litres under our sink for washing up, 5 litres for drinking and 20 litres on our roof for showers. We have to refill every 2 days or so because we travel with Roxy and Bo. If it's just 2 people, we can go for 4 days before having to refill. Our Battery System is by GOAL ZERO Link https://www.facebook.com/goalzeromalaysia We don't like buying mineral water and we invested in a Travel Berkey which we also use in our home when we're not on the road. You can google more about it and it's benefits. We love it. There is a local distributor in Malaysia selling the Berkey Water Filter system - look them up! Thanks for watching! With some help from Bob Emser @TheArtofBoatBuilding we get the breasthooks bolted into place and launch into the black locust beam shelf. Black locust is known for it's rot resistance and durability, exactly the qualities one wants for a deck structure. The locust is also very pretty wood and will be finished bright but we will have to get to that next time. Ben (the video editor) and his family just moved to the coast where they are taking over a small independent movie theater. Congrats Ben! Somehow Ben managed to move and still get the video done for everyone's weekly fix! We will be back to the regularly scheduled program next week, it may have been a short video but Steve never slowed down so now Ben and you all get to catch up =) Thanks for watching and we will see you next time! Turns out the marina that is storing our salvaged sailboat is very nice and comfortable- problem is they don't allow DIY repairs and don't love that we had 2 dogs. So after last week's drama of getting our slightly leaking sailboat launched - it's time to find somewhere new. We leave the protection of the marina and sea-walled bay and head to a more hospitable yard! This is our first time handling this large of a boat (Beneteau 49) and now we're in the open ocean (although never far from shore)! We can't wait to get started on the biggest project we've ever been a part of. See https://youtu.be/JJ3MruoO2q4 for how we came to own her! **************************************** *Media Gear* Main Camera: https://amzn.to/3h9CiOg Main Lens: https://amzn.to/2Q3hYC7 Microphone: https://amzn.to/3iSDGoV Action Camera: https://amzn.to/4ibLwJV Drone: https://amzn.to/2Yf3X8S Laptop: https://amzn.to/3h9ydcL *Find Us Elsewhere* Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ExpeditionEvans J Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/Jadexploring/ B Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/_BrettEvans_ EE Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ExpeditionEvans *Website/blog* We're working on it we promise 😁 #sailboat #sailing #diyboatyard #diymarina

The day that EVERYTHING went wrong was definitely my lowest. Without any land in sight in the middle of the Great Bahama Bank we had to quickly decide to keep sailing without an engine to Andros Island. And when we thought it couldn't get worst things broke. Luckily we made it safely to the Northern tip of Andros Island in Morgan's Bluff 105Nm later. There we explored Captain Henry Morgan's cave and the Bluff. Strong Northerlies pushed us further South in Fresh Creek. If you like what you see don't forget to give us the thumbs up! #sailingbahamas #sailingwithoutengine #sailingengineless ***************************************** Help the videos stay alive by becoming a patron, donating or becoming a YouTube Member. The countdown to our adventure starts now! We finally reached the end of our refit, mostly. All that is left is to finish up some small projects, and then to launch our sailboat. First thought forth of July fireworks! Warning: Flashing lights and strobes! Finally after finishing the electric motor conversion, the frameless port lights, and the electric work, only a few small projects remained. We had to create a new throttle, paint the transom, and install new spreaders. Just a few things and we can finally launch Ixion and start our journey sailing around the world. Join us on our countdown to launch. Subscribe, give up a thumbs up, and comment below on what you think of Nick's painting job! —————————————————————————- Who we are: Nick and Jake, gay sailor and filmmakers fresh from Los Angeles currently living in Cape Cod. This ASK US ANYTHING video is all about the namesake of our Raye Montague STEAM Initiative - the U.S. Navy's "hidden figure." Ms. Montague's legacy continues to inspire us to bring STEAM and maritime education to students at OHPRI by providing hands-on experiences related to ship design, construction and operation. Raye Jean Montague was an African-American naval engineer who served as the program director for the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Integrated Design, Manufacturing, and Maintenance Program, the division head for the Computer-Aided Design and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) Program, and deputy program manager of the Navy's Information Systems Improvement Program. She created the first computer-generated ship design, the Oliver Hazard Perry Class Frigate, during the height of the Vietnam War in the early 1970s, using a computer program she developed, in less than 19 hours. The STEAM acronym stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics. Previously known as STEM, without the Arts component, STEAM is a growing curriculum designed to integrate STEM into various relevant disciplines with the addition of the arts. For more information on our STEAM programming, visit our website! https://www.ohpri.org/programs/raye-montague-steam-initiative/ OHPRI'S ASK US ANYTHING series introduces maritime terminology and technology and shows you how we use it aboard the SSV Oliver Hazard Perry! VW Beetle IRS Rear Bearings replacement How To. How to check and how to replace. Also CV joint removal. Hi Everyone! In this 1969 VW Beetle episode, we are replacing the rear bearings - inner and outer. The is an IRS (Independent Rear Suspension) and not a Swing Axle car (first year I believe). The old bearings were shot - maybe not as bad as the fronts, but still loose and worn. It is a bit of work, but straight forward enough. The brakes will be coming up :) Enjoy! #vwbeetle #classicbeetle #beetlebrakerepair The VW Torque Multiplier too for rear-wheel nut: https://amzn.to/3besSiq The Ring Plier kit: https://amzn.to/3gDDw33 The Star/Triple Square/Spline Drive toolset: https://amzn.to/31DUHxk Seal Puller: https://amzn.to/2EPxT4y Rubber Mallet: https://amzn.to/2ENIBJ6 High Temp Bearing Grease: https://amzn.to/32IA5U5 Help support our channel and become a patron: https://www.patreon.com/heidiandfrannysailing Amazon Store Page https://www.amazon.com/shop/heidiandfrannysgarage Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/Heidi-and-Frannys-Garage-1902530353317503/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/heidiandfrannysgarage/?hl=en Twitter:https://twitter.com/HeidiFranny Website: https://heidiandfrannysailing.com/ The Cameras and Equipment we use: Main Shooter: Panasonic Lumix G85 (https://goo.gl/geSFpN) Main Shooter Lens: (https://goo.gl/RsHkkF) Main Shooter Microphone: Rode RodeLink FM Wireless Filmmaker System https://goo.gl/aQsmrg Car Cameras: Sony FDR-X3000 (https://goo.gl/P6XdYZ) GoPro Hero 7 black (https://amzn.to/3dph4cB) Car Mounts: Fat Gecko Camera and Camcorder Mount (https://goo.gl/zqCHvT) Fat Gecko Camera Mount (https://goo.gl/AXQAr6) Fat Gecko Mount (https://goo.gl/RhyXYT) Drone: DJI Mavic Pro and Kit (https://goo.gl/jQbk9V) Stabilizer for mobile phones and action cams: DJI Phone Camera Gimbal OSMO MOBILE, Black (https://goo.gl/Acr1jg) Disclaimer: Due to factors beyond the control of “Heidi and Franny’s Garage”, We cannot guarantee against improper use or unauthorized modifications of this information. “Heidi and Franny’s Garage” assumes no liability for property damage or injury incurred as a result of any of the information contained in this video. Complete sailboat refit in the Dominican Republic. I asked for my transmission to be CAT yellow... well see what they gave me... Still feels like a one dollar boat that I got my hands dirty with when I was on Sailing Miss Lone Star. I also sailed with Dan and Kika from Sailing Uma and they also have done amazing things with their sailboat. It seems this season of my life is sailboat DIY and I also hang out with people that do it well like the Sailing Uma crowd so I have some inspiration. WE LOVE sailing, WE LOVE making people SMILE, and LOVE making videos about it! Your support will fund better gear, internet to upload videos and help us make more dreams come true! Sailing during the Coronavirus was not easy. We heard from many of their trouble with entering or leaving countries. Many were just stuck where they were, even if it meant the ocean. Sailors that had been off-shore when the lockdowns went into affect arrived at their next port and were turned away. So, I guess we can count ourselves extremely lucky that Winter 2020, we stayed in the US, quite by accident actually. We had always planned on having some work done in the boat yard, which we did during January, February and March. After that, we spent the remainder of the Covid Winter Sailing on the Georgia coast in the Savannah area. We experienced the most dazzling sunrises - I couldn't wait to get up in the morning to see them. Sunsets were just as spectacular, but I was never in any hurry for a day to end. Our adventure began with a Thanksgiving weekend departure from Charleston SC (we covered that trip in another video). When we arrived, we docked at Bull River Marina near Tybee Island. Bull River is a quiet marina on the edge of the beaten path, surrounded by so many waterways we couldn't explore them all, but we'll cover the ones we did. In January, we dropped the boat at Thunderbolt Marine Services for some maintenance and upgrades - the subject of another video. While there, Stephen and I celebrated our birthdays - January 3 and January 13. We finally got PILAR out of the boatyard in mid March. On our way back from Tybee, we collected a few oysters for our appetizer for 2. Stephen was famous for his oyster roasts long before I met him, and we love to carry on the tradition now together. In fact, when we both were single, we started to fall for each other when I was invited to one of his oyster roasts back in Fall 2011. So they still hold a certain romance over us. On our April visit back to PILAR, we decided to sail out to the gulf stream for fishing. We planned an overnight sail, followed by a morning of catching fish and a late afternoon sail back. Although we had checked the weather, we encountered gale force winds of 35 knots. When I came up for my 2 AM watch, I learned that our jib furling line had snapped, which left us with no way to get our head sail in. Our jib sheet car had also lost it's wheel, so that sheet was frayed and was in danger of snapping as well. We had to figure out something fast. So, we slowed down as much as we could, and even with life jackets and safety lines, I still felt that I had to hold Stephen's legs as he ventured out on the foredeck to rig a line. Luckily, it had snapped at a point where we had just enough to tie a knot, so that we could furl the sail. We left the main up for stability - well reefed - and turned around. With the strong winds pushing us north, we decided to take advantage of a close reach which naturally brought us to Port Royal Sound and Hilton Head Island. We anchored around 6 am in the sound and got some rest. We enjoyed the afternoon and evening on anchorage, ran a new jib line, rigged a temporary fix to the car, and left the next morning for Bull River. A smooth sail renewed our spirits. Next we explored some tidal creeks on Little Tybee Island, by Lazaretto Creek. Too beautiful to describe, we explored for hours until the setting sun beckoned us back to PILAR. The next day, we set off to explore Wassaw National Wildlife Refuge. Only accessible by boat, the refuge is over 10,000 acres and includes long secluded beaches, live oaks, pine woodlands, and vast salt marshes. The refuge is made up of three islands. LINKS https://gosouthsavannah.com/tybee-island-and-coast/wassaw-island.html https://ashthetraveler.com/14-best-wassaw-national-wildlife-refuge-visitor-tips/ We accidentally caught a ray while docked and let it go. We went out to explore more waterways in the afternoon, but had to speed back to the boat when an afternoon thunderstorm popped up. We even enjoyed the rain. Next, we ventured out headed to St. Catherine's Island. However, when our auto pilot went out AND locked our steering, we decided to cut the trip short and stopped at Ossabaw Sound, which ended up being one of our favorite anchorages. You can learn what we did during that disaster in a different video. Passport Yachts is known for building high-quality bluewater cruisers, and this boat is no exception! She might be starting to show her age slightly, but she's generally in good shape and with a little work she can be ready to cross oceans again. The Passport 40 has a practical, no-nonsense layout designed by Bob Perry. At an asking price of $82,900 this is the most affordable Passport on the market right now that I've found. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Broker info: Pier One Yacht Sales Bud Mueller 248-343-0599 239-332-7998 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sailing Soulianis' Boat Buying Dashboard: http://sailingsoulianis.com/shop/ltl-boat-buying-dashboard/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not-A-Broker Consulting: https://www.patreon.com/notabrokerconsulting Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/learningthelines/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/learningthelines/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Learning the Lines is a channel about us, an average couple in our 20's, with big dreams to be sailing the world by the time we're in our 30's. How To replace an O2 Sensor on a Jeep Wrangler YJ and read OBD codes without a reader. Replacing the O2 sensor is not hard, figuring out why your jump is sputtering is. Hope you enjoy this as we go over how to replace the O2 sensor and the bloopers we have along the way. Hope this helps and you enjoy our mishaps at the end of this video. Link For Codes: https://www.chrisdoeswhat.com/how-to-replaced-jeep-o2-sensor/ ‎ Installing an O2 sensor, if not rusty, very easy! If it is rusty, spray it down with some lubricate before you try to break the o2 sensor loose. Other than that this has to be a very easy sensor to replace. The reason we replaced our O2 sensor is because of an OBD error code of 52 "A rich air/fuel mixture has been indicated by an abnormally rich correction factor". This means that the O2 sensor is detecting an abnormal mixture, which means the sensor could be faulty, or something else is causing the lean condition. When this happens the ECU will put the Jeep in limp mode and greatly reduce your performance. Seamlessly manage your boat's upkeep – let's embark on this journey together! ***** Saint Helena, in the middle of the South Atlantic, has had it's share of famous visitors over the years. Napoleon was exiled here (for the second time!), Captain Cook stopped in, as did Joshua Slocum on his solo round the world voyage. And us of course!! We stopped at Saint Helena as a mid-way break during our South Atlantic crossing and fell in love with this gorgeous island and the wonderful people known as Saints. As we sailed into the island, it looked brown and rocky. But once we got to exploring, we discovered just how green and lush it is on the inside. There were stairs to climb at Jacob's Ladder (699 of them!), sights to see, and whale sharks to swim with. If only the swell in the mooring field wasn't so bad, we might have stayed forever! Thanks for watching!
