In this episode, Maru and I wake up to a fresh Atlantic ocean breeze blowing over the island. Our own little slice of paradise, while being surrounded by fellow sailors, and soon to be friends. We enjoy some tasty breakfast and then head out to do a bit of kiteboarding around my sailboat. But pretty quickly we noticed the other sailors coming out onto the decks of their boats to take photos and share in the stoke. It was smiles all around. So I put on a bit of a show for everyone. Too bad my GoPro Hero 6 Black did not feel like working. It fogged out and then just stopped recording mid session. Oh well. That's part of life out here. So instead Maru took some great photos with my long lens camera. Which I'm happy about, because it showed the true stoke that was happening. Then I put my twintip board down and took out my surfboard. Getting out away from the beach was a thrill. The surfboard does much better at tackling waves, and I was able to go explore the bay for miles and miles! Coming back in I reflected on how fast time flew, the day was gone, but we had our fun. Just another day living life on a sailboat in the tropical paradise that is the Bahamas. THIS IS LIFE ON A SAILBOAT IN THE BAHAMAS! AND I LOVE IT! . . . While on a motor yacht in the Bahamas I get an amazing opportunity to freedive with a Great Hammerhead Shark. Super rare to even see these incredible animals. I was soo excited! After several minutes of observing the sharks behavior. I started diving with the animal on it's level. After a few more dives, the sharked seemed very relaxed and comfortable with me. So I took the chance and held onto it's huge dorsal fin for a few moments. Then letting go and watching this magnificent animal swim off into the distance. . . We spent £90,000 on a refit on a tired 2007 Failrine Squadron 58 - was it worth it? When buying a boat (or pretty much anything) you have the option to buy a perfect/concourse condition model, one in a good enough condition you can live with it or one that needs doing up. This review show our Fairline Squadron 58 started off in the later camp, it was showing its age, with dated fabrics and lots of wear and tear - so we opted for a full refit and wanted to see if it was economically viable. James walks through the boat giving a tour of how each part of the boat has been modified and reviews the work carried out by Setag Yachts. 66 Oyster Sailboat 2002 [QUEST] Specs + Photos: https://hubs.ly/H0Rsx_D0 Location: Long Beach, CA Dave Millett / (714) 260-5901 / DMillett@DenisonYachting.com The Oyster 66 has a low centre of gravity keel and a powerful sailplan. Cutter gear is standard, which allows for a useful choice of sail combinations depending on wind speed. The 66 has an unusually large cockpit with twin wheels and easy access to the aft deck. The helmsman is ideally positioned, with excellent visibility to sail and dock the yacht with many of the sail handling controls within easy reach. Careful optimization by the design team, empowered by Oyster's integrated CAD system, has produced a hull with a sleek outboard profile but with enough volume to allow full standing headroom under the cockpit floor. There is sufficient headroom within the deck saloon area for a workable installation of engine and machinery under the deck saloon floor. The combination of these features has allowed a centre-line passageway aft with two double guest cabins port and starboard and a large owner's cabin, with its own companionway to the deck, aft. The galley, which is open to the saloon, is placed forward of the saloon at an unobtrusive lower level with plentiful counter space and stowage. Opposite there's a pair of chairs and a ship's office in this area. Forward, the Oyster 66 has two further cabins with their own heads. One of these makes a first class guest cabin while the other is ideal for crew. To make things worse, I was on a paddleboard.... Worst still, I had all my spearfishing gear on and two fish.... But the absolute worst was where my boat was anchored. A bay that funneled all the energy of the storm straight against my unprotected sailboat. Only a couple hundred downwind was several small rock islands in front of a beach. Dragging anchor would have meant I would have lost my sailboat, my home and my dream. But still, somehow throughout all this, and with a good bit of luck. I was able to paddle upwind, against the waves to reach my sailboat. Exhausting myself. But still with enough energy to manually pull up the anchor(help from the motor). To then motor against the brunt of the storm until we were able to get around the corner and behind the island cliff. Where there we finally got a break and make this video. Enjoy. . . .
