This lovely and well cared for C&C 57 sailboat is ready to go and awaiting you in Cartegena Colombia. The owners are aboard and ready to greet you to meet this lovely boat and hand her over to you in tropical paradise. C&Cs were built in Canada for comfort and safety, they have a reputation for racing boats, but this lovely yacht is built for cruising in comfort and speed. A center cockpit is large enough for the whole family or crew to sit in comfort or lounge on the cozy loungers surrounding, under a full bimini. The huge salon offers space for everyone and the 4 cabins with their own heads allow privacy and luxurious space. A full "home sized" galley will appeal to the chefs and the large refrigerator and separate freezer make provisioning easy. There is ample storage space in the well designed yacht. The large drop down table in the salon can either be coffee table height for conversaions, or adding the top to it to make seating for 8-10 people in the leather settees. Our craziest job yet! Our last video was all about our sexy new bowsprit installation so we could enjoy flying our 6 giant gennakers once more In the last video we explained the setup for the new installation, but the installation itself wasn’t so straight forward as it involved accessing areas of the very front of our very skinny bow. So Timo had to come up with some novel solutions... the first of which was how to tighten the nuts and bolts attaching the anchor bowsprit to the deck. Episode 032 Well, I think the title says it all. If we were to wait for favourable downwind sailing conditions, we would never sail anywhere in New Zealand! We've been told that our sailboat Tāiko was designed for upwind (winward) sailing and she sure is good at it. However, not all of us enjoy upwind sailing, especially in strong winds but we'll get there! The important thing to to remember though is that there is always a beautiful anchorage waiting for us at the end. We hope you enjoy it! As always, thanks for watching. In December 2021 we moved onboard Te Tāiko, a Chico40, and since then we have been so fortunate to explore many of New Zealand’s pest free islands and its beautiful anchorages. With our love of travel and adventure, this lifestyle has enabled us to experience so much more than we could ever have imagined. From new experiences to meeting incredible people along the way, our life has been enriched in so many ways and makes us ever so more appreciative of our environment and the footprint we leave behind. Tāiko is our floating home. She gives us the freedom to go anywhere the wind and weather allows. By living a more minimalistic and sustainable lifestyle, she has provided us with a better work/life balance and has taught us to live and be present more in the moment. Tāiko has also taught us to be more independent and less reliant on services. Some of these experiences have taken us out of our comfort zone many times but as the saying goes, ‘a comfort zone is a wonderful place but nothing grows there’. Our plan is to do blue water cruising. So, over the next year we will be completing some maintenance work on Tāiko and be getting her ready to meet New Zealand’s category 1 requirements to be able to go offshore. There is generally no argument that classic boats of Dorothy's vintage should be preserved. The interesting part of Dorothy's story is WHY she has lasted for over 120 years, when so many other boats did not. In this video, we ask former Dorothy owners, classic boat fans and museum curators what is so compelling about Dorothy. Why is she so significant? Was it her design, her build?
