This was the final beercan sailing race at Richmond Yacht Club for the 2024 season. We raced in the spinnaker class over 30 ft. and after getting a late start, we quickly caught up with the fleet. We had a bit of drama at the windward mark rounding, but worked it all out and finally set a kite to the finish line.

Il tagliando, il tagliando, il tagliando... mamma mia, quante volte! Cerco di spiegarti in pochi secondi cosa accade e cosa non accade, e che cos'è il tagliando delle barche, ovviamente. Partendo dall'inizio, ti dico subito che il tagliando è la manutenzione ordinaria, da fare ogni 100 ore o una volta all'anno. Quindi ogni anno, e lo ripeto ancora: ogni anno, affinché la tua barca sia in condizioni efficienti e possa navigare in sicurezza. Al contrario, non eseguire il tagliando è la cosa peggiore del mondo, oppure pensare di farlo solo cambiando l'olio motore. L'olio motore è una parte del tagliando, ma non è il servizio completo. Per cui ti invito a fare la manutenzione corretta per evitare di navigare con meno sicurezza in mezzo al mare, magari con i tuoi amici e familiari, proprio nel periodo peggiore in cui tutti i meccanici sono oberati di lavoro. Le case costruttrici di motori per barche a motore, ma anche quelle a vela (perché all'interno delle barche a vela c'è un motore per entrare e uscire dal porto), hanno ormai online il tipo di servizio di manutenzione necessario per mantenere longevo il proprio motore. C'è un elenco: alcune case, anzi la maggior parte, offrono la possibilità di farsi un preventivo autonomamente oppure vedere esattamente quanto può costare quel ricambio necessario, obbligatorio al fine di fare il tagliando delle 100 ore, 200 ore, 300 ore. Convertito, vuol dire il primo anno, il secondo anno, il terzo anno, il quarto anno. In questo modo uno può programmare gli interventi necessari. Ovviamente non è obbligatorio, se hai una barca ad esempio di 10 anni, andare per forza dal concessionario che te l'ha venduta nuova. Per l'amor del cielo, puoi anche fartelo tu o farlo fare a un tecnico specializzato; l'importante è che tu faccia ciò che la casa costruttrice del motore indica di fare. Non te lo consiglia soltanto, ti dice di fare queste cose per evitare eventuali problemi. Parliamoci chiaro: i problemi possono comunque capitare, perché motori e barche sono oggetti meccanici abbastanza complessi. Per cui, se oltre a queste possibili problematiche che possono sorgere per mille fattori, inclusa la casualità, ci aggiungiamo anche la cattiva manutenzione fatta dall'armatore, cioè dal proprietario, beh, allora ce la siamo andata a cercare. Qualcuno rompe la barca perché non ha fatto il tagliando, o come conseguenza del fatto di non aver effettuato la corretta manutenzione. Non siamo contenti perché capita nel periodo peggiore dell'anno, quando stai usando la barca, magari a luglio o agosto, quando siamo tutti oberati di lavoro e non riusciamo a fornirti un servizio veloce e sereno. Riparare, trovare il difetto... non si riesce perché è un periodo veramente pieno di lavoro, soprattutto in Italia e nelle zone di navigazione. Non è valido il fatto che spesso ci sentiamo dire, noi operatori: "Eh, ma l'anno scorso non l'ho mai usata". Poi guardiamo i filtri o il libretto della barca e vediamo che l'ultima manutenzione ordinaria, quindi il tagliando, è stato fatto 2, 3, 4 anni fa. E in questi anni, non lo so, non l'hai usata quasi mai. Questa non è una giustificazione: usare spesso una barca o non usarla, per molti versi è peggio non usarla.
