Five miles from the entrance to Newfound Harbor and I am hit with a ferocious squall. I decide to temporarily drop anchor to ride it out, but that turns out to be a mistake and I nearly lose my ground tackle. Some days later when the winds subside I return to Key West. Two years ago, after our visit to Mayalibit bay in Raja Ampat, we tried to find Kali Biru (aka The Blue River). We went with our friend Sutar, and drove the dinghy up a river, and explored the jungle around for a whole afternoon, but never found it. This year, as we are back in Raja Ampat, we decided to try again to find this place ! With our better skills in local language and the advices of our friends around Raja Ampat, we found it ! FINALLY ! And it was so easy to go there when we found the right track ! And what a pleasure to discover this blue (very cold) river in the middle of lush jungle. An amazing picturesque spot that we really enjoyed, and we hope you gonna enjoy it too ! CARNIVAL IN MARTINIQUE 2022 a close up experience of a lifetime I did not expect to have this year! In this episode I'm sharing a close up and real experience from the Carnival in Martinique. Also explaining the concerns before this carnival as Martinique still have curfew and mandates going. We did not expect carnival to happen this year either as there is still some pretty strikt measurements on this island. But it looks like everything was just put on pause and the famous Martinique Carnival and nightlife took place just like normal again. If you want the ultimate Martinique experience end of February is the time to visit. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR WATCHING AND SUBSCRIBING! Most of the time I sail singlehanded but occasionally I do have sailing friends onboard. Still in the Caribbean due to Covid and was supposed to be in Asia by now. Even though this is season 4 on youtube I did not make that many videos in the beginning. Before full-time sailing, I have sailed several seasons in the Med prior to this, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I have been traveling the world before and also been an active regatta sailor. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and been sailing ever since. Also more than 10 years experience from Search and Rescue at sea in Norway. PLEASE BE KIND IN THE COMMENTS! I'm just a normal person sharing my travel adventure through my eyes and experience from my perspective! Remember how I do things might work for me but not for you. It might even not be the correct way to do things, and I don't have the blueprint either. I'm not perfect and nobody is. The day I believe I know it all and don't think I can learn new things I should go ashore.
Episode #230 : Season 8 : The Hawaiian Adventures : Bringing a 1959 Triton to Honolulu - Part 1 Hello Friends, Welcome to a new episode of "Yacht Delivery Chronicles"! On this episode my friend Esteban and myself catch a ride onboard SV Solstice with Captain Geoff sailing from Ko Olina on Oahu to Port Allen on Kauai. The purpose of our trip is to bring Esteban's new boat, a 1959 Person Triton (Hull #34) from Kauai to Honolulu. We had a mellow crossing of the Kauai Channel with slack Tradewinds with some excitement at the end when we discovered a cracked fuel line and made a temporary repair. Join us next week to watch us Turn and Burn and bring Esteban's new boat home after only being on Kauai for 5 hours! This week we're answering the critical question: what happens if you crash the boat? This is a rare but extremely serious situation and can have dire consequences if the boat is not built with collisions in mind. Seawind manager Mike takes us through the crash bulkheads and how they're made to prevent water ingress, and the Seawind 1370's watertight compartments, and we have a chance to chat to Seawind owners Mark and Isobel from s/v Jollydogs who happened to collide with an underwater object in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and had their entire starboard bow ripped off. And yes, they sailed over 1000 miles to safety. Thanks for watching! Please subscribe and leave a comment ⛵️ To support our work ❤️ https://www.patreon.com/sailingrubyrose I'd watch the whole episode if I were you, but if you're short on time: 00:00 Intro 01:39 Forward bulkheads construction 04:23 Mark and Isobel's collision at sea 07:27 Ruby Rose 2 crash bulkheads 09:29 Keel watertight compartment 10:19 Aft watertight compartment Our videos are free for everyone to watch, and always will be. The clove hitch Along with the bowline and the sheet bend, it is often considered one of the most important knots to know. A clove hitch is two successive half-hitches around an object. It is most effectively used as a crossing knot. It can be used as a binding knot, but is not particularly secure in that role (we prefer the constrictor knot for these use cases). A clove hitch made around the rope's own standing part is known as either two half-hitches or buntline hitch, depending on whether the turns of the clove hitch progress away from or towards the hitched object. The Clove Hitch is the simplest and most effective knot for securing your fenders. It can be tied in seconds, is relatively easy to undo which makes it simple enough to adjust the hight as you approach the marina. There are other fenders knot that are easier to untie, we would only recommend these for short stays or when you a remaining on the boat while docked. If you will be leaving your boat for an extended period of time the Round Turn with two Half Hitches another option to consider. If you want to learn some other skills for docking your boat why not check out our video which compares the Cleat Hitch V OXO for tying your mooring lines to fixed cleats. https://youtu.be/LepMcTJuFfI If you want to learn the other knots mentioned above check out the links below.
