Sailing in fog and avoiding a collision - Ep 145 On our last days in The Abrolhos Islands we took a walk on semi inhabited Rat Island, one of the few islands that plays host to the rock lobster fishermen who spend several months, every year working away from home in this beautiful windswept place. We were then rewarded for our patience by the weather gods who sent us a lovely Northerly to carry us 240nm south to Rottnest Island just off the coast of Perth. Up goes Miss Ribena and cue sea sickness. However, it was our second day of sailing that brought us the most trouble first a pea souper wet fog followed by a near collision with an inquisitive tug boat. Music Canyon City - Venice Luna Keller - I don't know where I'm going Planes - Good day Sailr - Benedictus Waves - Gravity David Mumford - Ball and Chain Thank you for helping keep us afloat and supporting the creative process. It took six weeks for Rob and rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, to complete winning the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. Skip forward to 2014 and, married with three children, Rob and his wife Rachel purchased Javelot, a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Rob's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, We set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know their boat before heading offshore with the kids, Finn (then 13), Declan (then 11) and Ivan (then 8), in tow. Through trial and error we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. The plan? To sail around the world. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we hope to retrace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. www.brothernumberone.co.nz ***** Follow us in real time on Instagram and Facebook @thecruisingkiwis @finn_hamill @declan_hamill @ivanhamill #TheCruisingKiwis

In this video we make our way on our Leopard 45 Sailing Catamaran from the Exumas to the Ragged Islands, otherwise know as the Jumentos. The water was so calm and crystal clear that we saw red starfish on the bottom of the Bahama Bank in 15 feet of water. On our hike across Flamingo Cay, we came across remnants of a burned out wooden boat, complete with clothes, water bottles and bed sheets strewn about the beach. We sincerely hope that whoever was involved in that tragedy was able to find help. And, on a lighter note, we found a hidden Mickey on the island. It's proof that even Mother Nature is a Disney fan. Thank you to: Jason Ricci (https://mooncat.org), Cary Morin (https://www.carymorin.com) and Larkin Poe (https://www.larkinpoe.com) for all the great music in this video. And, as always, thanks to Damon Fowler (https://damonfowler.com) for our theme song. We're already looking forward to the Big Blues Bender in August this year. Thanks for watching and don't forget to subscribe.

Well, nobody's perfect. I accidentally saved the last upload of this video - Journey to the Ragged Islands - with the music track muted. And, since I was in a hurry, we never watched it before the upload. (I wondered why we didn't get any copyright claims.) In this video we make our way on our Leopard 45 Sailing Catamaran from the Exumas to the Ragged Islands, otherwise know as the Jumentos. I really think the music is awesome in this video, so we decided to re-upload it. Thank you to: Jason Ricci (https://mooncat.org) (one of the top harmonica blowers in the world) Cary Morin (https://www.carymorin.com) (super cool blues folk guitar player/singer) Larkin Poe (https://www.larkinpoe.com) (Edgar Alan Poe's nieces and awesome blues/rock band.) for all the great music in this video. And, as always, thanks to Damon Fowler (https://damonfowler.com) for our theme song. We're already looking forward to the Big Blues Bender in August this year. If you watched the muted version, thanks for watching it again. If you didn't, we hope you enjoy this one. Thanks for watching and don't forget to subscribe.

What do you do when the plastic bracket you buy for your IridiumGo aerial just doesn't cut it? You make a new composite one ;) Keeping ourselves busy while stuck in the marina waiting for our solar panels and a favourable weather window to head to the Canary Islands, Shayme decides he can improve on the tacky bracket he got for our IridiumGO aerial. The IridiumGO is our lifeline to the outside world, how we can communicate while offshore and most importantly check weather forecasts and routing. Today we focused on FIVE boat projects; we had been traveling so much and spending time with friends that many of the issues we needed to address were neglected. Lake Tashmoo was the perfect place to focus and knock out a few, or maybe all FIVE? Could that be possible? Here are the five projects: 1) water leak in the bow, 2) peeling laminate on the door, 3) loose door hook, 4) leaking holding tank, 5) missing screw in head hatch. #sailing #sailboat #sailingprojects #LAKETASHMOO #LEAKS NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Hopefully, you will be as BLOWN AWAY from watching, as we are in experiencing and producing our adventures! HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT US? If you wish to support our video efforts, all we ask is that you SUBSCRIBE, give a THUMBS UP, SHARE our videos with your friends, AND COMMENT! WOULD YOU LIKE TO GET TO KNOW US MORE DEEPLY?

World under sails, episode 40. After a difficult decision, we say goodbye to our circumnavigation project in Mexico and make all the necessary preparations for the non-stop passage to Bermuda... http://annamera.de Nach Ablauf unserer Aufenthalts-Genehmigung auf Kuba und mit komplett leerem Kühlschrank haben wir in Mexiko Zuflucht gefunden, auf der kleinen Insel Isla Mujeres.

Part 51 of a series: Sailing Tampa Bay to Key West. The Tiki Bar at Lido Key Beach is a fun spot to eat and grab a drink. We walk the beautiful back side of the beach and when we return, we find that our trailer sailer is still anchored exactly where we left it. After a swim, we find a quiet anchorage near Otter Key and clean up with our outdoor shower. MORE VIDEOS on Patreon! https://www.patreon.com/Barefootsailingadventures

As if our last sail wasn't wild enough! This time Katy and I have a crazy downwind ride that quickly goes from seemingly perfect full sail conditions to heavily reefed as the wind and waves build to a record high aboard Seawind.
