Mother Nature was not content merely to throw more testing westerly offshore winds at the 343 Olympians of the future racing in the Four Star Pizza ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships. For today's two races, held on this third day of the competition, the under 19-year-old sailors who have descended from 61 nations as far flung as Belarus, Macedonia, Peru and Korea, faced the additional challenges of torrential rain and, at times, reduced visibility.

As well as the action on the water there has been plenty of activities organised around the shore to entertain the huge numbers of the public that visited Dun Laoghaire Harbour so far during the event. From stunt bikes and classic cars to a pop-up pizzeria on the East Pier there's been something for everyone to enjoy....

Reaching high with the gennaker, I was sitting on the rail fairly far forward. I helmed up and dug the leeward float in and a bit of the bow then helmed down hard to get the boat to stand upright on its nose and held on. A green kingfisher flew into our house and couldn't find the exit. When we found it, it was exhausted. So we took care of it, fed it, and after 3 days it was recovered enough to release it in the wild. Funny thing was that it got used to us so fast that after one day it started to eat fishes from a bowl with water that we put in it's cage. And also that it kept on sitting on my hand for a while when I released it, so I could film it from very close distance.
