The Berthon apprentices are currently restoring a West Solent One Design (RIPPLE) as an educational project on behalf of Boatyard owner Brian May. Designed and built at Berthon's Lymington based shipyard, by Brian's great grandfather H G May in 1925, the boat was originally christened DINAH, and still bore that name when she arrived here in October 2012. The work to restore RIPPLE has been progressing with apprentice Lewis Still taking directions from seasoned Mike Prince in the corner of the big blue sheds at Berthon. Lewis, a 2nd year apprentice shipwright comments on the work he has been undertaking in this rebuild. At long last I have finally tried and tested my new WATERPROOF FPV (First Person View) system on our "MARINER" Waterproof Drone.. and it worked! But whatever you do, DON'T try this with your DJI Phantom or Inspire 1 quadcopters or you will very quickly see them sink like a stone! ;) What this means is now we can fly in fully waterproof mode, and simultaneously see the view from the GoPro camera on the drone with our screen on the ground, even if the GoPro is underwater! Palau was an important site in WWII, and this now-tourist attraction, was a place of struggle between the Japanese and Allied forces. Consequently, there are quite a few Japanese shipwrecks in the inner bays around Koror Island on which you can scuba dive. In the inner lagoon, the visibility is often limited because of not much water flushing over the barrier reefs, and this same condition is probably the reason there is not much coral or marine growth on the wrecks. Still, this adds a dimension of mystery and discovery to the dive. This clip is a compilation of a look at 8 different wrecks around the Koror Island area. There are some that still have “live” depth charges, and interesting artifacts. See what things you can identify after 60+ years of them sitting in a watery grave. Around the World with Harken’s Tech Team - Part 3 VOR65 service video, episode 3: Sanya, China Arrival The atmosphere was buzzing as spectators watched Chinese sponsored boat, Dongfeng, winning Leg 3 into its home port, Sanya! Crowds didn’t have long to wait until the chasing pack quickly followed suit: 1.5 hours later Abu Dhabi finished 2nd and Alvimedica 3rd; but the excitement did not end there with Mapfre battling for 4th place and Team Brunel close on their stern only two minutes behind! Location Sanya is known as the Hawaii of China and is the southernmost point. It is full of culture, not to mention some very alternative culinary choices—chicken feet anyone? How about sweet and sour sheep’s head?! Service work begins The team had only four days to complete the service in Sanya before boats had to go back into the water. This was going to be a close one! Within this time, we had to service and inspect all winches as well as perform a full service on the MX pedestals. This involved replacing all the seals, bearings, washers and drive chains inside each pedestal. Needless to say this is a long job! All winches were removed from the boats and taken to the workshop where they were cleaned and inspected. They were then placed back in the box, waiting to be reinstalled onto the boats. A service sheet was filled in, so there is a record of all work done on each winch. This sheet then follows the winch all the way through the procedure until it is reinstalled on the boat. The sheets are gathered up as a record for the Team of the work done at each stopover. Next stop! Our next stop is Auckland, New Zealand. Leg 4 looks like it is going to be a hard leg for the boats in what may be the hardest service stopover ahead of us yet. In Auckland, we will need to complete a full service on all winches including taking the winch drums apart and servicing the self-tailing system. On top of this, we need to service and inspect all 30 of the oil-filled gearboxes on all six boats. Let’s hope the boats are not late coming in! Stay tuned for our latest video. See you in Auckland! I was fortunate to get out sailing on a F27 in San Francisco bay when the America Cup foiling 45fters were also out practising. It is very hard to video boats moving at 35knots when you are only doing 12-14 and don't know where they are going or when they will tack. And having to sail at the same time, not just video. So this video is just to show we were there with them on a glorious, sunny winters day For the record, both boats need to practise their tacking a lot more. Artemis seemed to fly higher but sail slower than Oracle. And what causes the high pitched whine before they sail fast (hydraulics?) Thanks Charlie!

Leg 4 to Auckland, day 16. "This is really unbelievable, now it’s so close,” Jens Dolmer whispers on Team Brunel. "Who will be the first to 'make the jump' in the wind and maybe stay ahead.” The freshly rebuilt confidence on Team Brunel gets a big bash with the latest position report, when they realise they're on the wrong side of the cloud. All the other boats get wind from the east and within a couple of hours Team Brunel lost 40nm to the leaders: MAPFRE, Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing and Dongfeng Race Team.

Simple as it sound: keychain camera 808 #3 maybe (one of the cheapest) So cheap that I actually bought a plastic fisheye lens for iPod, and set it on the camera with some screws (to detach it and add some other lenses in the future) yes I know it doesn't look like fisheye, but as said: the camera is so cheap that the angle of vision was like 15º without it. All of it was to test how cheap vs useful aerial photography could be. (notice: there is still some video frames compressed or missing...you can notice how "fast" the kite lands at the very last moment, and the audio not perfectly matching... Well, sorry...did my best to fix it)
