As the final two days of racing played out, four of the 17 teams battling for the 2015 Rolex Farr 40 World Championship title in Long Beach, California, were in contention to win the championship. The top two teams – tied on points going into the last day – had only an eight-point cushion to the fourth-place boat, setting the stage for a thrilling conclusion to the 18th edition of the class’ world championship.

In april 2013 we dived in Oslob, Cebu, with the whale sharks. En avril 2013 nous avons eu l'opportunité, lors d'un séjour plongée à Dumaguete (ile de Négros), de faire une plongée à Oslob, au sud de l'ile de Cebu, dans une sorte de "zoo" sans barrière ou les requins baleines deviennent domestiques, puisque ils sont nourris par les pêcheurs. Cet endroit reste l'un des rares endroits dans le monde ou vous êtes sûrs d'approcher de près les plus gros poissons des océans, des géants débonnaires et inoffensifs, et ce, quelque soit votre niveau d'aquaticité!! Cela peut éveiller bien des consciences à la raréfaction des ressources dans nos océans....

It’s normal for us to wake at dawn, but Millie is usually the first on deck, often because she’s been keeping watch throughout the night. Today the horizon was filled with another spectacular sunrise–a bit like dolphins, you never get tired of them. After breakfast we took a last look at the view, weighed anchor and motored off in clear skies with little wind. As we picked up speed a few startled tiddlers jumped out of the water and landed on the swim platform, so Liz put them in a bucket for Millie to hone her fishing skills. We were soon entering Ao Chalong, a huge, protected anchorage on the southeast corner of Phuket island. As it was packed with every kind of boat, we played it safe and stayed away from the crowded mooring buoys. This meant a long dinghy ride to shore, and timing our landings carefully to avoid the very low tides. Checking in is easy in Ao Chalong, with harbour master, customs and immigration in three rooms next to each other. The whole efficient process took 15 minutes (this was after registering on their computer system first). No-one seemed to mind that it had taken us over two weeks to get from Malaysia to Thailand–a journey that should only take a couple of days–so all the doom-laden warnings we had been given by the bar-fly sailing fraternity evaporated in the friendly offices. Like many sailors before us, we discovered the Phuket Cruising Yacht Club, a warm, rustic spot run by Captain Brent McInnes. We were super lucky to stumble upon this William Garden design Walloon / Wanderbird built by R. Fung back in 1967. We were out on the coast for a weekend away and decided to look at one marina to do some boat ogling. Low and behold, we chose well, finding a sister ship to our sailboat in Maine.

Eight teams vie for the "silverware" at the top of the Australian Women Match Race Championships on gusty/rainy Pittwater, Sydney. 3 teams from the host Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club lined up against 3 from the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia one from Perth and finally a 5 girl crew from the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron. Day 1 was started with a big south westerly squall that had all the crews hanging on for dear life. Then the sun came out and all dried out. The action goes on through the Sept 26-17 weekend with the winner decided in the finals around 1430 on Sunday. Here is our "Ruff-Cut" of the action in Day 1.
