Well, we won't be going anywhere fast like this, but wanted to show off our freshly completed Sailrite sail kit for a Passagemaker lug rig dinghy. This was our first time seeing the sail hoisted and first reef of two tied in.
We were super lucky to stumble upon this William Garden design Walloon / Wanderbird built by R. Fung back in 1967. We were out on the coast for a weekend away and decided to look at one marina to do some boat ogling. Low and behold, we chose well, finding a sister ship to our sailboat in Maine.
As the breeze moderated and our destination came into view, a water battle like no other broke out between our vessels. It was the last day of a sailing camp with the local scout troop, and after being ambushed on the previous day by White Raven's cannon crew, the rest of the fleet ganged up and took revenge.
A quick little hang out on the water while we waited for the wind.
Race 3 of the Spring series, which ended up being the first official race of the season. Two races occurred, but I only finished the first. It was still a fantastic sailing day and was my first sail solo.
Don't jump into the Snake in March... it's a bit chilly.
The start to our race season ended up being calm, but we had fun hanging out on the river! We played around with our genoa and had on our recently repaired main sail.
Getting reacquainted with White Raven after a 6 month hiatus. Light to no winds to start the afternoon, and then we had a nice 5-6 knot breeze out of the ENE. Still need to perform some patch work on the jib and our actual main sail, so we pulled down the jib right before the breeze struck. The battered old main from a J-24 is a bit baggy so there’s more heeling than would be seen with a nice flat main. Hopefully we can get the main sail and jib patched before our next outing! Hope to see you on the river!!
Testing my new camera out.I think there will be plenty of new sailing videos and pictures in the future.
Our first visit of our new sailing vessel Drumbeat, a Walloon / Wanderbird wooden ketch built in 1969. This was a quick walk about on the deck. Even under the copious layers of dust, there is beauty in her form.
A quick look at the interior of Drumbeat on our first visit.
This is a family video of the Ketch Drumbeat, a 1969 wooden Walloon / Wanderbird designed by William Garden and built by R. Fung Co. Ltd. in Hong Kong. The video was taken in the 80's by a previous owner, but I don't have much history/information about the boat, or boats like this and am interested in learning more. So if you're in the video, know the folks, have a Walloon, know anything about wooden boats... let me know!
Sailing around Lake Coeur d'Alene on a shake down sail with our sailing club. This is our first time sailing somewhere other than the Snake River.
Our first night "on the hook!"
Afternoon cruise through wind and waves, kicking off our fun filled weekend of sailing and camping.
Just a quick shot of us sailing on the Snake River by Blyton Landing.
Just finished cleaning up and putting in the newly covered cushions, carpets, and lights. Still working on getting the mast lights working and still need to fix up the galley. It's looking good though.
Just camping in the boat. I really need to make some video of us sailing.
The finish of race 1; the Murphy's in the lead followed closely by Jeff and Tim all in San Juan 21s. My crew in our Macgregor 25 too far behind to finish.
Sailing on the Snake River for the Spring Frostbite series... drifting down river with no wind and a decent current.
