George David, holder of the RMSR Record (2007) reminisces about his experience in 2007

Just under 100 boats attended the Sydney amateur Sailing Club's Gaffer's Day regatta on Sydney Harbour today. In the "Ranger Couta Boats" division of 25 yachts the Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull skippered his Couta Gaffer in a very fickle 8 knot breeze. The first part of the race was in this light east south easterly until the sea breeze came in and the pressure was steady. See an "interesting" mark rounding squeesing the PM. Later we retrieve a hat for Sir James Hardy's crew member. His beautiful gaffer Nerida was in fantastic condition.

The BPO yachts visit Espiritu Santo. Have a quick look at the Beach Front Resort where yachts arrived and Oyster Island Resort where they ended their Vanuatu cruise. Includes a long passage about the Millenium Cave Tour and a Water Music show. 2001 sind wir von Genua nach Capraia, von hier rund Elba, nach Korsika und über Marina die Pisa und Sestri Levante wieder zurück nach Genua gesegelt. We were boarded by the U.S. Coast Guard for 4 1/2 hours. They checked our papers and swabbed us for drugs. All of our safety gear was on board so no citations. Apparently someone in Virginia (their home base) thought we were smugglers. Sorry, no dice Coast Guard. We felt bad for the boarding party as they were as annoyed as us having to do all the extra work....All in all though they were very professional and friendly, we appreciate there role on the high seas and would prefer no one else to come rescue our butts in a pinch...

Bow Caddy Media settled into their usual position at North Head with a few drinks and nibbles and caught the fleet as they headed north out of the harbour. In a NNE wind around 16-18 knots, Chinese Whisper and Ichi Ban were the first out of the heads and caught our attention in the dying light.

Building and testing an emergency rudder for a Norvane windvane on the 28-foot Pearson Triton sailboat, Atom. The rudder sleeve size is double the area (10" x 34") of the original Norvane servo rudder, which is 7" x 24". To balance the rudder I kept 20% of surface area forward of the axis.
