This past week I was in San Francisco for a work thing and very badly wanted to get out sailing. The trick was getting out after 5pm. I decided against doing my own charter because I'm too unfamiliar with the area. And I couldn't figure out how to get in touch with people to be crew for someone. (If you have tips for this let me know in the comments.) The compromise was to pay to go out on a 2 hour sunset sail out towards Sausalito and back. This video shows me traveling to, exploring and finally sailing in San Francisco! To take a right decision whether we are staying at Staniel Cay or sailing back to Chub Cay was not an easy one. Because of the depression (at that time) was moving right on us, we had to evaluate it according to our boat, our anchorage, and our knowledge on these kind of situations. Finally we decided to move just a mile away to have a sand bottom, this way anchors would go deeper in a sand creating secure stay. Jack decided to put two anchors, main one and the second one was attached to the chain of the main one. Finally we got maximum 32 knots of wind with some rain after. We also sailed to Warderick Wells where we discovered blowing holes (which were out of the order at that time :) and enjoyed an amazing view of turquoise water along Exumas. Few days after we met a couple, Alex & Melissa, who had almost same boat as us. Alex gave us few snorkeling and diving lessons and caught a big snapper. It was very nice of them to share with us a fish, it was really delicious one. We understood that in the Bahamas we can catch fish only being under the water.....so we will see how we can handle that in future :) If you really, really like this episode, please become a patron at: https://www.patreon.com/sailingJAEKA Your generous help will allow us to maintain and upgrade our boat as well as keeping us in a good shape and mood :) You can also support us by purchasing Kateryna's handmade crochet beachwear at: https://theswimweartags.com/ She is a "crocheter" as well, making all her handiwork right on a boat. YOU BET! As you remember from last episode, Shascha and I were enjoying some down time in Bequia for a couple/few weeks (ok I was working a lot too, I know) :) Now it was time for a little side trip to shake things up and swap out the backyard for a new view for a couple days, so off we went to Petit Nevis, a small deserted island a few miles off the South shore of Bequia, with nothing but an old abandoned whaling station on it, and a signature row of palm trees on a beautiful coral beach... sound too good to be true..? Think again, it's REAL, and in this episode we take you for a little tour of the island we spent a couple days just enjoying by ourselves... how cool is that, right? Watch and you'll see! As always, thanks for your appreciation of my videos, thanks for your comments, shares, and likes... and thanks most of all just for being there and asking for more... look forward to sharing upcoming episodes with you, so stay tuned! :) Cheers, Captain Rick For info on our drones, contact our partner Frank Farray at: http://www.CarolinaDronz.com For info on our new sails, please visit: http://www.DoyleCaribbean.com Video Produced by http://www.LandAndSeaVideo.com ARL Logo Animation Produced by http://www.SomethingGames.com More Videos at http://www.AmbientRealLife.com Music Credits: Song 'Hope' by extenz http://www.soundcloud.com/extenz-1 Song 'Alive' by Amarante http://www.soundcloud.com/amarantemusic Song 'A Better Place' by: http://www.soundcloud.com/extenz-1 Song 'Mesmerizing' by: http://www.soundcloud.com/natzure Song 'Drive' by Nicholai Heidlas
Australian guy sailing solo in Queensland About: I am an Australian guy trying to live on Mother Earth without killing her. Come on people, our poor earth is on its last breath and yet we still are going on the same path. So I am sailing wherever the wind takes me. Crew come and go and so do my children. I live off the land where I can and try to keep my footprint as small as possible. I tend to go to places rarely visited and have seen some amazing things so if you like a bit of adventure then follow me. Ay, yai, yai…. What have we been up to lately? Oh, you know… just breaking our bowsprit and anchor pulpit right off the front of our beloved Varuna, you? It was a terrible and heartbreaking night for us on Varuna. We were so excited to set sail from Santa Barbara and head back out to the Channel Islands, intending to make our way over to San Miguel to hike with the ranger, see the petrified forest and even visit the sea lion rookeries and researchers! But alas, I guess the best laid plans don’t always work out. Our first stop after leaving Santa Barbara was Fry’s Harbor anchorage on Santa Cruz Island for the night. We were delighted to have the anchorage to ourselves, and with vague anchoring instructions, nestled right up under the cliffs near the beach. The excitement didn’t happen until after dark, of course… concerned that we had anchored too close to shore, we decided to readjust the anchor. While hauling the anchor up, our nice little bowsprit gave us a big surprise and scare, cracking right off without any warning! It was quite the shock, and we thought we had a terribly fouled anchor. Well, it turns out the anchor wasn’t fouled at all, the anchor pulpit was just completely rotten inside! In sinking spirits, we returned to the California coast once again, this time to a boatyard to assess the damage. To read a full recap of the events that happened that fateful night, check out my blog post here! http://adventureadrift.com/2016/08/18/stop-the-boat-just-broke/ We hope you enjoy our videos and adventures.
