My old buddy Northern Rom turns up and explains the historical, or should that be 'hysterical' use of 'Sausage boats while we explore the old Uboat base in Lorient. We also checkout the best bar in the World. It was a bit of a battle pulling this beautiful, majestic creature onboard just out of Tonga, but we finally did it! In the whole 30,000nm miles or so we have sailed around the world in total, we have hooked a good 10 massive Marlin that have all managed to get away (and take our lures), due to the fact we have to firstly drop the sails in a hurry, which always seemed to cost us in the meantime... but because we were on engine, we finally had some luck. Riley was over the moon (I was a tad too excited, Julz I would say possibly scared hahaha). We swam her behind the boat until she was biting and released her back into the wild. Join us as we cruise into Tonga and are welcomed with several other wildlife encounters... I think I'm gunna like it here. We decided to try our luck at getting some lobster and hell yea we ate like KINGS! Feelin' pretty high it's nice to catch a little of our own food for once unlike our fishing escapades. From Allan's we pointed the sailboat south and dropped the hook at Powell for some hiking and paddling. Of course both spots are perfect to test our Drone flying skills as well. We set sail on November 23 and left Mindelo, Cape Verde to cross the Atlantic to Grenada, Caribbean. The forecast wasn't optimal and the very light winds were concerning. The first week gave us some sun and company by dolphins but very light winds. And then the squalls showed up on the horizon and started to hit us with lots of rain and thunder. We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built aluminium Beason 40, and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started to sail south along the coast of Europe. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds takes us. As Christmas nears we spent last weekend getting the boat ready for Christmas. Deb and I have prepared for Christmas before and typically just had a small table top tree, but this year we wanted to have a large tree where Santa could put gifts under it for the GrandSquids. We actually got a 7 foot tree up in the boat :) See us prepare and decorate as well as bake some holiday cookies. Music in this episode was from a great musician from Hawaii. Deb and I had the pleasure of meeting her 7 or so years ago in Maui and she is amazing.
