Pour le premier jour du salon, le JT officiel s’est mis en mode croisière. Il faut dire que l’inauguration du Cannes Yachting Festival a tenu ses promesses. D’abord parce qu’il a fait une chaleur tropicale sur la Croisette. Les exposants et les visiteurs se sont pressés dans les deux ports dédiés, le Vieux Port et le Port Canto. Avec plus de 700 bateaux à visiter, le plus grand salon à flots d’Europe n’a pas failli à sa réputation. Une journée riche en rencontres pour l’équipe vidéo de Skippers magazine et ses partenaires Pantaenius et Nanni. Nous avons d’abord rencontré Sylvie Ernoult, Directrice du salon, qui nous a confié vivre sa treizième et dernière édition avant sa retraite. Elle revient sur les caractéristiques du salon de Cannes. Nous avons également visité le Sun Odyssey 415. Antoine Chancelier, directeur des ventes monde de chez Jeanneau, nous a fait l’amitié d’une interview embarquée. ⛵ c’est ma 24e navigation à la voile, je suis en solo et… disons que ça ne s’est pas passé comme sur des roulettes ! 🚤 Départ compliqué du port : j’ai même abîmé le bateau du voisin 😅 (heureusement il a été adorable et il va me laisser réparer moi-même avec un peu de mastic choucroute 🪛). 🤯 En navigation, grosse bizarrerie : à deux reprises, la barre réagissait à l’envers en marche avant ! De quoi bien me faire chauffer le cerveau… 🌬️ Comme le vent montait et que mon anémomètre n’a pas l’air d’être fiable, j’ai préféré prendre un ris pour la toute première fois. In our feature on The Ocean Race Europe Leg 3-4 we asked why Paul Meilhat's Biotherm has been so difficult to beat in this complex, multi-stage marathon. Offshore expert and project manager Marcus Hutchinson gave us an insight into the ingredients that have made this boat and its team so dominant in this race. But there was plenty more in our conversation that touched on several key topics around this fascinating class from how these boats can be configured for different roles through to what the teams are getting out of racing their machines around Europe that never made it into the feature. ► Ordinarily, new Leopard models are first presented in the United States, but this time, the Cannes Yachting Festival is charged with hosting the new Leopard 52, the replacement for the 50, for its first viewing by the public. This catamaran has been designed to satisfy both owners and charterers with layouts incorporating 3 to 6 cabins. The 52 retains the watertight forward door introduced in 2010 but features a fully open saloon and aft cockpit. Efforts have been made to optimize performance with a 17% increase in sail area compared to the 50 and a slightly lower weight (around 183 lbs/83 kg less). In terms of price, it’s a bit the opposite: €30,000 more compared to the price of the Leopard 50 at the end of 2024 – but then you do gain two feet! It will feature the Forever Green label in our upcoming Buyer’s Guide, as owners will benefit from integrated solar panels (1,600 Wp) on each boat, a lithium battery bank, and the Joool electric propulsion system already available on the Leopard 46. The manufacturer also offers a fully electric galley and equipment. After Cannes, the Leopard 52 will be presented for the first time in the United States at the Annapolis Boat Show in October. We’ve now sailed 1024 nautical miles from our hometown Stockholm all the way to the Netherlands, on our journey towards the Mediterranean. In this video, we continue our adventure through the famous Standing Mast Route, a unique canal system that lets sailboats cross the country without lowering the mast. ⛵️ The Dutch canals has truly amazed us, from sailing above highways to passing countless bridges and locks, meeting big barges, and exploring charming Dutch towns. Sometimes the passage is smooth, other times chaotic with many boats squeezing through the same narrow bridge. We then exit the canals into the largest manmade lake in Western Europe, setting course for Amsterdam. But instead of sailing into the city, we make a last-minute choice to take the train, but we and end up having a beautiful touristy day in Amsterdam. It has a length of 1,432 metres and lifts boats through 67.73 metres vertically. It consists of two large caissons mounted on rails. Each caisson has a water depth between 3 and 3.70 metres. It can carry one boat of 1,350 tonnes or many smaller boats within the same limits. Each caisson has a 5,200-tonne counterweight running in the trough below the rails. It takes 50 minutes in total to pass through the 1,800 metres of the entire structure, including the raised canal bridge at the top end. We were astounded by the scale and ingenuity of this innovative structure. This video goes into quite a lot of detail regarding the engineering behind this ship lift, and has been created with the intention of answering many of the questions a viewer may have about the Ronquieres Boat Lift.
