We find some incredible wildlife, including a whale carcass, elephant seal and their newly born pups, Guadalupe Fur seals and tons of birds. On our adventure, we find El Faro, a very cool old abandoned lighthouse. Then, we set off with perfect weather for a downwind sail to Isla Cedros. In this week's WoW Armer Le Cleac'h in Banque Populaire VII the foiling IMOCA 60 is within sight of te finishing line of the 2016-17 Vendee Globe solo round the world unassisted race. This is the hardest sporting event in the world and Armel only just wonthe race as his opposition Alex Thomson was only just 100 miles behind. Andi Robertson who had done a great job commentating on the Vendee Globe has popped up on a paddleboart in Key West working with the TP52 Super Series, Australian Youth Championships, Australian Etchells Championships off Palm Beach Sydney and Quantum Key West Race Week 2017.

Ian always likes to get out on New Years Day and go sailing, and amazingly so do some others! even though its normally cold, wet and miserable. This year he left the covers on his Blaze dinghy and borrowed an Alto for the race and along with Adam a fellow Blaze sailor they entered this years race and managed to finish second! After the hurricane, Dan flew to New York to keep me company for a few weeks while I helped my mom in the hospital. When we came back to Haiti, we spent time with family and tackled a few tasks on our to do list while still in Port Au Prince. How do you defend against pirates? And what weapons do we carry, if any? Is it OK to have guns on board? Piracy is one of the top subjects we get asked about. In this clip we discuss piracy and our experience of it, and offer some advice on how to limit the risks. We also talk about weapons and whether you should arm yourself when sailing in high risk areas. A couple of notes on the clip: Jamie refers to a boat in the Andaman Sea, but he meant the Arabian Sea (between Oman and India); and Liz said we hugged the east coast of the Red Sea when she meant the west coast. Other than that, this Q&A session has a number of pointers that may help other yachties who are worried about piracy on the high seas.
