Background. You've asked, so we thought we'd share a little blast from the past. Before setting sail, we explored hidden Floridsa with friends on an Airboat. Every airboat ride is a blast, but sometimes mother nature offers a little extra magic. This run through the Florida Everglades turned into the most incredible sunset adventure ever! An airboat, AKA fanboat, with its flat-bottomed, propelled by an aircraft-type propeller, and powered by an insane engine, makes it possible to access much of Florida's hidden coasts. Join us as we Airboat through marshy and shallow areas where standard boats can't go.

Although Magic Carpet was once destined for the scrapyard, she's now almost ready to be launched back onto the water. Aladino is a professional boatbuilder, so he has the skills and training necessary to pull off a restoration of this size. But it wasn't easy! It's taken almost four years, and a lot of hard work. In this video, Aladino will tell you a bit more about what exactly he had to fix in order to make Magic Carpet seaworthy again. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘blar bar mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. Luckily no operation needed for the ruptured tendon in my left arm. Nice to be back for a while and meet our friends but can't wait to return to Greatcircle again. Nice weather though and a lot of sailing going on on the lake. Add in our nidacore panel for our shower door. Its been nice and cold here in South Africa as it is going in Winter.. so I improvised with my heating mechanism. We fibreglass an extension to our head floor and fit her in. Make some room to add our plumbing. Epoxy in our head floor. Make some adjustments to our basin cabinetry. As well as make a box for our plumbing which will go behind our toilet to hide away any plumbing that would be visible to the eye. Thanks for watching. In this weeks episode, we go full blown "How To." This is all about how to make repairs to solid wooden items such as Booms, Masts, and Bulkheads. In our case, we found a small section of our wooden mizzen boom that had a soft spot on it. In this video, we will show how to determine if a repair is needed. How to remove the bad/rotted material. How to cut a template before using expensive wood. How to purchase exotic hardwood from a specialty hardwood store. How to cut the hardwood and make the correct angles for a scarf joint. How to install the new piece of wood with epoxy. How to mix sawdust in epoxy for color matching. How to sand and shape the final material. Learn how to repair your own boom, mast or bulkhead. These are skills that can be used to fix almost any good hardwood project including furniture. If you have searched in boat repair forums, seek no further, I may have run across some of the repairs you need to do. I am not an expert but have gained quite a bit of knowledge in refitting my own boats as well as the curiosity to research the best way (for me) to go about making my own repairs that save money but remain strong and long-lasting. As always things are not that easy as they seems, first I hand sand down the bow thruster hole and then I sand down the engine leg and the edges of the rudder. I thought the keel was a easy job but I was wrong, it is almost impossible to sand down with the sander so I get my old 600W Bosch grinder, 5 grinding discs later I reach my goal and I can then apply some rust converter as the first part in the process. IMPORTANT : Do not get the rust converter on the skin !!

We check into Fethiye, Turkey and cruise around the Gocek area. These are some of the best cruising grounds in the world. The water is warming up and we are able to swim and enjoy the beautiful water and mountains. Sophia gets to wakeboard behind the dinghy and Alex makes friends with a donkey.

We visit the beaches, turtle river and mud baths of Dalyan Turkey. Our Dinghy is confiscated by the police! No worries, we still have a great time enjoying the area.

The toilet is the least of our worries. We have some major problems to fix and some spectacular cruising grounds to explore! Marmaris in Turkey was the spot to fix Nikau up, meet new friends and see some of the best cruising ground in the world. We are the Robbins family sailing on our boat named Nikau. We are a family of 5. Our 3 kids are doing NZ correspondence school on board. They are growing to love it! What's not to love about 3 hours of school a day and then a different playground for the afternoon every day! We've traveled from New Zealand to Sardinia in Italy to pick up our boat and we plan over a few seasons to sail her back to New Zealand. We hope you enjoy following us on our adventures!
