To fasten the futtocks we use Black Locust Treenails (Trunnels/Trennels), which are traditional wedged pegs, used for centuries in ship-building and timber-framing. We also get some more of the copper fastenings removed, build some adjustable trestles, and establish the centerline of the boat. Hi everyone! Sorry to keep you waiting, but finally, here is part 2 of my solo sailingadventure to Fair Isle! In this video my drone got striked by a bird and got destroyed. This was in the middle of shooting the southern lighthouse on the island. And it happened just before I was ready to walk to the north side of to shoot the amazing sceneries up there. I really wanted those shots, so with no other alternative I set sail for Shetland in some really nice wavey weather! Next day I was lucky enough to get a drone and plunged back out in the waves down to Fair Isle again. And I did not regret! After sailing back upo to Shetland again I was even lucky enough to walk to Great Britains most northern point, wish is Muckle Flugga Lighthouse on Shetland. For additional details pertinent to this video please read the description below. PREPARATION is the fourth video in our Physics of Docking series. Jeff Merrill and Douglas Cochrane have collaborated to share their combined docking knowledge with other boaters through this collection of videos. Filming for these episodes was done in San Diego, CA aboard a single engine Nordhavn 57. Preparations for securing your boat in a slip should begin well before you enter the marina. This video is going to address many of the important procedures we think about and present some suggestions for what you can do to get ready for arrival whenever you come in to port. While making a reservation for overnight or longer, you should have your own preferences to request: • Which side do you like to tie to, port or starboard (is one easier to get on/off)? • Will you be docking bow in or stern in? • Where is your shore power connection on board (forward, aft, amidships)? • What size shore power (30 amp or 50 amp) do you need from the dock pedestal? It’s good to know about marina resources in advance like; holding tank pump out, fuel dock, laundry facilities, trash drop off, shower and heads, etc. Find out if the marina has gate combinations for security and a Wi-Fi password. As you approach a marina, but before you enter, we suggest that the captain of the boat should explain to the crew what the intended arrival maneuvers are. Being ready includes using the head, getting something to drink and possibly a light snack. The captain and his or her primary line handler should put on communication devices, (hands free headsets with microphones) and the line handler should also be wearing an inflatable safety harness (or PFD). We recommend wearing shoes on deck and wearing gloves for lines (many catch splinters). As you arrive in a marina have your fenders hanging and dock lines organized. Even if you know which side you are going to be tied up, it is not a bad idea to have fenders ready on both sides. Dock lines can be draped so they are more readily reached from off the boat and should be uncoiled and ready to distribute. On final, take it slow and follow your plan. As you come into position and it doesn’t seem right or your alignment is wrong, you may need to pullout. No harm in deciding to bail out. It is always better to make a second attempt by starting over than to try to force something that could possibly create damage. With a spring line secure you should be able to complete the job safely to tie up all of your other lines in order. Once all of your lines are tied and the fenders are properly positioned you can connect shore power and shut down the engine. Congratulations, you made it! One final caution: We know many trawler owners who have made silly mistakes in the last hour of their trip, the important phase of arriving and tying up. Don’t let your guard down. A smooth landing looks effortless and a successful arrival is the result of a good plan that is well coordinated. This week we finish putting the Awlwood MA on the boom, and traveler car. As I mentioned in an earlier video the application of this product (and most frankly) is to plan the recoat timeframes so that you are applying the next coat at the optimal time that gives an excellent adherence to the coat below it but minimizes the surface preparation time. As I was planning this job, I realized I needed 2 things. The first was a planned schedule based on what I intended to do. I often have to prepare the work around other things (such as that job I have :)) and doing so means a plan needs to be created. I also know that boat work rarely goes according to plan, so this tool also will allow you to track your actual work in addition to your plan and show the differences in recoat time so that you can adjust accordingly. Friday, 10. August 2018: Just a few impressions of a stormy morning on Livø. On our way from Norway we stopped at Livø (a lovly small island in the Limfjord) to visit the famous Livø Jazz Festival. Sorry for the quality, but we had a lot to do to secure boats and people. The video of our summer trip 2018 will follow soon.

The mast is now mounted and I mount my selden rodkicker with the new 2500N. gas spring, it is the extra hard version I have mounted so it is a bit hard to get the boom in level. Next I mount the renovated sprayhood with a new window, trim and tensioning system. The price for the renovation was 130 US Dollars

After a wonderful week at Catalina Island, it was time to sail back to the surrealness of the mainland. Our bonus was that we encountered a pod of dolphins that seemed to be numbered in the hundreds. Sorry for the delay in videos, we have been trying to get over this bloody boat refit! 7 Months of hardcore work whilst trying to save up for our sailing season really got us! But this is the reality of owning a sail boat so as much as i dont like this video because there is no fun involved (both of us arent very energetic either) i thought i better post it to show what we have been going through and that sailing is not all sunshine and beers. Finally put the Lurvve pod on, which has been epic. Anyway the aqua tanga has been on some pretty cool missions of late so watch out for some new videos (finding it so difficult to get reception and be able to upload videos on our travels) but they eventually will come out!
