Half way stage the 44Cup Cascais, Chris Bake’s Team Aqua has joined Nico Poons’ Charisma at the top of the leaderboard and is even ahead on countback. The second day of racing for the high performance one design RC44 monohulls, hosted by the Clube Naval de Cascais, was held in slightly more wind than yesterday, 10-16 knots, building slowly in the final race, but remaining more firmly northwest. However the height of the swell was notably larger, drummed up by Hurricane Lorenzo. Thanks to the long wavelength this wasn’t especially dramatic, but it made holding a course tricky as boats experiencing a momentary lull and they disappeared in the troughs.

It's really not the ideal conditions to cross open ocean - it really isn't - 30 to 40 knots of wind and a 4 to 5 metre swell which is throwing us around like a cork... but it's time to suck it up and take it on. We left in a rush and knew we had two days of heavy going before we could settle in. Ahead of us are more than 700 nautical miles of endless angry ocean, and it's just the two of us. Happy honeymoon! The fuel filters must be changed every 2. year and this time I will like to try the cheap chinese brand Osculati wich pops up when you are searching for a alternative to the original Volvo fuel filters eg. type nr. 861477. Osculati is a equipment chain where you can buy different stuff for your boat, a store type as Biltema or Wallmart. Osculati then buy a lot of filters in china and then stamp on their logo and sell the filters for a affordable price. You can find the filters at different prices and somtimes dubble the price so watch out before you click the buy botton. Regarding the quality you get what you pay for, the Osculati filters looks like all the other filters but there is a different in the build quality there is splitting the good from the bad. The bad thing is the filters is hard to install due to the measurements don't quite fit 100% so the best thing is to stick with the Delphi 296 for the pre-filter and go for someting else for the fine filter. If you are on a budget the Osculati filters is ok, but as emergency filter the precision is just not good enough for a fast swap. I have also seen the filters sold under the brand "Solas" The filters I use in the video is : CAV pre-filter Osculati 17.666.00 - 7,5 US Dollars Spin-on fine-filter Osculati 17.502.02 - 16,5 US Dollars A good alternative to the Osculati CAV filter element is WIX, Fleetguard, Hengst, Delphi, MANN, Bosch, Baldwin and also the one from Biltema. Regarding the fuel samples the fuel will be more yellow when inside a black fuel tank or a jerrycan and it will get lighter in the color when exposed to sunlight. The point is to spot water or diesel bug in your tank and see how it develop over time, with diesel treatment and without. I use Liqui Moly Marine Diesel Protect in my tank, a product there is keeping the diesel bug away and also protects the diesel system against corrosion. I also bleed the diesel fuel system on a pretty easy and new way

Quando compramos o veleiro nós não retiramos ele da água para verificar o fundo pois o antigo proprietário tinha acabado de fazer o survey (vistoria para a seguradora), e no laudo desta vistoria falava que o fundo do barco estava em boas condições. Após retirarmos o barco da água pudemos verificar que o casco está perfeito!!! Fizemos a pintura do fundo com a tinta anti-incrustante e o veleiro está pronto para voltar pra água. In this episode of our Sailing Chelsea Blog, we show you the stunning ruins of the ancient city of Nora, along the East coast of Sardinia and explain a little about its fascinating history. Then we set sail, heading to Cagliari, Sardinia's capital city. We stay there for 2 days doing nothing (!) then decide to head further north to Olbia, as this city is slightly easier to access from an anchorage. It is on this journey that everything goes wrong! We get hit by a tornado (more aptly known as a water spout) which causes some very scary times at sea. We can not sail as the wind is too strong for us, reaching 60 knots at times, but unfortunately our main sail raises itself up in the wind! This meant it was near on impossible to control the boat and keep it moving in the same direction as the waves. As we turned beam on to the waves and Chelsea leaned right over, we prepared for a capsize! This episode shows and tells you what happened! Sandflea is loving the sailing conditions in the Abacos. So far there's been good wind and very little swell. We've been ripping along at 5-6 knots in near pond-like conditions! Pretty awesome sailing. At Marsh Harbour we do a bit of reprovisioning at Maxwells. People call this place "the best grocery store in all of the Bahamas". It's a shock walking into an "American Style" grocery store after spending so much time in the smaller out-island settlements. Maxwells is HUGE. It almost feels like we're back in the States right up until we see the shocking grand total for our groceries. Wes and I load up the dinghy and head out to Mermaid Reef for some snorkeling. It's a decent dive site. Super shallow, lots of fish, and some impressive little reef structures. This would be a great spot to snorkel with the kids. Finally, I teach Wes how to blow bubble rings. It turns out that he's pretty much a master and he didn't even know it. On his very first attempt he blows a bubble ring that is essentially perfect in every way. Beginner's luck? You be the judge.
