In this episode of Sailing Chelsea, we finally get lifted back into the water, which goes smoothly - thank goodness! We are awaiting the repair of our sail and we are still no closer to having the electrical refit completed, which is becoming frustrating! Instead of waiting around for very little to actually happen, we decide we will go home and work to get a bit of money behind us. We show you our mammoth journey home which involves 2 car hires, a train and a ferry, before being picked up in Calais by my parents (thanks Mum and Dad!) and taken home, finally! We visit friends in Antibes and visit Nice then leave and drive to Puy de Dome to climb the volcano and walk in the snow. We then drive to Paris and Dunkirk before crossing into Belgium and staying in Ghent and Bruges. We are a family of six who are taking some time out of normal life to travel. We’ve pulled the kids from school and are home schooling while on the road and the water. We spend time aboard our 34ft sailing boat in NZ and have bought a motorhome in Europe so as to tour the other side of the world. We’re keeping our memories on video here and the kids write narration and play guitars so we have music to use in the videos.

Scuba diving and fun on the island

The weather has been very windy since we’ve been back in Airlie Beach so we haven’t had the opportunity to move Nutshell and remove and work on the broken gear box. It’s a good forecast so we head out and move her around the corner on to a mooring. Magnus works on her starter motor, again, and gives it loads of TLC! Wendy makes a start of beautifying the cupboard doors for the gallery. We head out to the local dam and try our luck at catching red claw. You can see how that goes. This was no time to sail out when we consulted the forecast. It had been blowing 30 knots and up for almost two weeks. So we waited. Ep 111 We took her out for the first time & man I thought the boat launch would be emotional. What an amazing day. The engines were running like a dream, we anchored off the pierre and swam, put out our fishing rods and caught some tuna. Went into the fog to test our radar and to top it all off a huge pod of dolphins came by on the way back to the marina. It was all in all an epic day! Follow us to the nice Fakarava atoll where we visit a pearl farm, start with kiting in the Tuamoto kiteschool, camp on the beach, grill a pig , fishing parrotfishes and meet the nice family from Sailing Zatara. We also have to repair our first kite and learn how to lunch from the boat. Though we applied anti-fouling on Nala not long ago, we did the mistake to use soft anti-fouling. Our journey to the beautiful archipelago of Bijagos, in Guinea Bissau, with their constant currents that average 4 knots, and the Atlantic crossing had a significant effect on the anti-fouling, actually at this point you can see the primer on Nala's bottom! So we are condemned to clean the bottom Weekly until the next haul out! But not all is bad, although the hard work, nature is always beautiful wherever it grows, we almost felt bad for removing it but for the sake of Nala we had to! WE ARE LOOKING FOR WORK!
