There's a saying in boat building and in woodworking in general you can never have too many clamps. The truth is it's not the amount of clamps you have but the variety of clamps. Recently I was looking through a Wooden Boat series book on planking and in there there was a chapter on "Clamps in the Boat Shop" and a section about cam clamps. Flying down wind, we need to avoid a fishing trawler and we LOSE steering... https://www.sailingnandji.com/ In this episode of Sailing Nandji, our quick dash to Langkawi is complete and we have some stronger winds forecast to blow us back to Thailand. We head out early and enjoy some great fun sailing. There are lots of fishing trawlers to watch out for and trying to do some quick avoidance, we lose our steering at sea... She will be right! Who needs steering anyway, Right??? With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off from Australia sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through New Caledonia, Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and then onto the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the years to come. With a new engine, we continued onto Thailand, then back down into Indonesia and specifically West Sumatra to live the island life and chase the surf. With our Sailing plans changing, we have returned to Thailand to wait for the weather and begin our journey to the northern route of the Indian Ocean to Sri Lanka before heading south to Chagos and across the Indian Ocean once cyclone season has finished and the trade winds begin! The adventure is just beginning as we plan to sail our Nandji girl around the world!! We departed the east coast of Australia in July 2017 and have since sailed over 10000nm offshore. We have explored some amazing countries and met some beautiful people along the way. We have experienced so many different and diverse cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our lives doing it! Heute nehmen wir euch mit nach La Palma und machen die Überfahrt nach El Hierro! Anfang April 2019 segelten wir nach La Graciosa! Nun sind wir auf den kanarischen Inseln. Natürlich stehen alle 8 Inseln auf dem Törnplan. Wir segelten mit unserer HR 43 Mola Mola einige Jahre im Ärmelkanal und besonders gerne in Südengland! Seit 2017 haben wir nun mehr Zeit und so ist es uns möglich unser Revier beliebig zu vergrößern. Wir reisen gerne in kleinen Etappen, um möglichst viel von Land und Leuten kennenzulernen. Begeistert sind wir von der Atlantikküste bis nach Gibraltar. Ein oft unterschätztes Revier mit unendlich vielen, schönen Orten und Ankerplätzen! In der 3. Folge segeln wir von Sassnitz nach Hiddensee. Ein paar stürmische Tage hielten uns im Hafen fest. Wir besuchten den Dornbuch, den äußersten Zipfel des Nationalparks auf Hiddensee und wir mussten die Seenotretter für einen auf Grund gelaufenen Segler rufen. Geplant wäre es eigentlich weiter gegangen nach Warnemünde. Aber der Wind war im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes gegen uns und so drehten wir ab nach Dänemark. Aber seht selber in Folge 4.
