The day finally arrived and all that stood between us and the First Mate's dreams of sipping margaritas by the pool while the washing machines gently hummed their way through his chores... was a huge great river and a sand bar to cross! Todas as atividades relacionadas à Semana Internacional de Vela de Ilhabela atenderão aos protocolos de segurança oficiais relacionados à COVID-19. Uma das novidades para 2021 é a exigência de teste de PCR com 72 horas de antecedência para o credenciamento, que será feito nos dias 24 e 25 de julho. After 51 days across the Pacific against winds and currents we finally see... land! Land ho! 350 miles off the coast of Costa Rica. Low on food, water, diesel this island becomes our lucky strike. An uninhabited ever-green island shaped by deep ravines, valleys, 200 waterfalls rising out of the depth of the Pacific belonging to part of a volcanic chain of submarine volcanoes stretching until the Galapagos islands. A pirate island? Yes. A treasure island? Yes. Uninhabited? Yes and No. National Park? - Yes, Costa Rica's most remote one with lots of endemic species! We are surprised by huge creatures below us on anchor. And then by our first Ticos we ever met, fully armed! Yesterday what was Tropical Storm Elsa became Hurricane Elsa a Category 1 Hurricane with sustained winds of 75 miles per hour. Lucky for us Reverie, as well as our home, is located in a protected area so we were blessed with a lot less rain than forecasted and winds only gusting to 30 knts moving from East to West (Offshore) which was the best case scenario. If you recall part of our storm plan included checking the tide tables to assess the effect of the storm surge in our area and how that would be affected by the tides. Lucky for us things worked as planned. The storm surge came into the bay area at the time when we had low tide. Check out how this combination impacted Reverie and how much worst it could have been should we have had high tide at the same time the storm surge came in. Enjoy!

Her LOA is 19.3m and she has a beam of 4.6m with a draft of 2.98m She weighs 33t and she can cruise at 7 kts with the engine and 8-10 kts on sail depending on the wind. She is fairly comfortable with 15 to 20 kts of wind. Freshwater capacity to last over 2 weeks and a fuel range of 13 days steaming. About the Boat ''SY Red Current'' is a Southerly 31 with the construction of GRP and rigged as a sloop with Aluminium Mast. Her LOA is 31 feet and she has a beam of 10 feet with a draft of 7 feet. She also has an electric swing keel which makes her draft very shallow and easy to enter in shallow water.
