From careful route planning to dodging humpback whales in Hervey Bay, this passage demanded patience, preparation, and constant awareness. In this video, we share how we chose our route south from Bundaberg, why depth matters so much through the Straits, and how tools like Queensland’s Beacon to Beacon Guide helped us navigate safely. It’s a fascinating stretch of water — beautiful, challenging, and unlike anywhere else we’ve sailed. After wrapping up this final passage aboard Te Tāiko, we return to New Zealand for a while — still travelling, still exploring, and still sharing our life by land and sea. The pace changes, the terrain shifts, but the sense of movement and discovery stays the same. As always, thanks for watching. Does your yacht charter have to be Saturday to Saturday? It depends on the destination. In this video we break down the real-world charter schedule differences between the Caribbean (often flexible start days + flexible durations) and the Mediterranean (commonly 7-day increments, often Saturday turnovers, with some midweek options in places like Croatia and Greece). You’ll learn: - When Sat–Sat is required (and when it isn’t) - Typical embark/disembark times and why they matter - How a sleep aboard can make day one smoother - Why early boarding / early check-in can feel like “adding a day” - The Mediterranean’s common Friday return-to-base requirement - Need help planning a charter the right way? In this wide-ranging interview, marine industry veteran Phil Friedman—Managing Director of Port Royal Group—shares insights from more than three decades in yacht design, construction, journalism, and consulting. From managing a small marina in Ontario to leading major U.S. yacht yards, Friedman offers a rare insider’s perspective on marine surveys, explaining the critical differences between condition and valuation surveys and true pre-purchase surveys, how to choose the right surveyor, and why yacht valuations are often misunderstood. This conversation is essential reading for anyone buying, selling, or building a yacht. Transcript: https://www.yachtsite.com/reference/phil-friedman-on-surveying/

Configured in the highly sought-after Galley Down layout, Aloia offers exceptional privacy, functionality, and comfort, making her ideally suited for both luxury charter operations and private ownership. The yacht accommodates up to 10 guests in five beautifully appointed cabins, each benefiting from generous volumes, refined finishes, and abundant natural light through panoramic hull windows. Owner’s Suite The full-beam Owner’s Suite is located in one hull and offers a true private apartment at sea. It features a king-size bed, seating area, ample storage, and large windows providing breathtaking sea views. The ensuite bathroom is finished to superyacht standards, with premium fittings, a spacious walk-in shower, and elegant materials. This suite ensures total privacy and comfort for long stays onboard. VIP Guest Cabins Four spacious VIP cabins, each with queen-size beds, are located in the opposite hulls and are all equipped with private ensuite bathrooms. Designed with the same level of attention to detail as the owner’s suite, these cabins offer excellent headroom, sound insulation, and refined décor, ensuring a five-star experience for guests. Crew Accommodation Aloia features dedicated crew quarters for 4 to 5 crew members, ensuring discreet and professional service onboard. The crew area is intelligently separated from guest spaces, allowing smooth operation during charter while preserving guest privacy. Altogether, Aloia’s accommodation layout reflects the Thíra 80’s philosophy: superyacht-level comfort, intelligent separation of spaces, and refined elegance, making her a standout offering in the 80-foot sailing catamaran market. In this episode, we walk 17 km of the Queen Charlotte Track, from Ship Cove to the Furneaux Lodge. We arrive by road, water taxi, and finally on foot—reflecting on movement, fitness, and the quiet mental work that happens when the body becomes the vessel again. Ship Cove—known as Meretoto—has been a place of arrival for a long time. Long before tracks and water taxis, it offered shelter from the rough open sea. Captain Cook returned here on all of his New Zealand voyages in the 1770s, spending more time at this cove than anywhere else in Aotearoa. Sailing in, walking out—different centuries, similar intentions. To move through a place, not just past it. This video is part of our Walking New Zealand series, where we explore Aotearoa step by step, noticing what changes when we slow down and walk. 🎥 In this episode: Walking from Ship Cove to the Lodge (17 km) Water taxi journey through the Marlborough Sounds Reflections on fitness, mental resilience, and presence Why walking feels different from sailing or driving 🥾 Next walks in the series Giants of the forest in Peel Forest Three days walking Stewart Island / Rakiura Two weeks on Te Araroa with friends Thanks for walking with us. 🌏 More from Adam & Vicki #walkingnewzealand #queencharlottetrack #trampingnz #slowtravel #hikingnewzealand #landandsea #newzealandtravel #walkingfilm Join this channel to get access to perks: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdH2L9SWYIbXONaZ1m9tR_Q/join As always, thanks for watching.

Unlike most of the big singlehanded ocean races today, the Golden Globe Race is specifically for the sort of boat that was commonplace fifty years ago. At 33-36 feet, with long keels and a modest rig, they are sailed not by ‘rock-star’ racers but by ordinary people driven by a variety of motives to perform extraordinary feats. Gunnar Christensen from the States is in England preparing his boat for the next race. I went down to the marina in Lymington to find out what makes a man like this tick. I learned a lot. To keep the video to a YouTube-friendly length I’ve had to cut out some important passages such as his trim-tab self-steering arrangements with full redundancy onto a hydrovane, but nothing is ever perfect and there’s more than enough meat here to get your teeth into. 💰 Prezzo onesto o prezzo basso?

Prepare yourself for the best week of your life on our 7 Day Croatia Flotilla Week. If island hopping between some of the most secluded swim spots, crystal clear coves and Croatian hotspots is your idea of a good time, this tour is for you! The Flotilla Week runs on a Split Return South Route, allowing guests to fly in and out of Split International Airport and explore this fascinating city before and after the tour. The Flotilla Itinerary covers the following destinations: Day 1: Split The adventure begins! Meet your skipper and fellow travellers at 1pm in ACI Marina, Split, for a welcome drink before your 2pm check-in! After a quick briefing, we’ll set sail into the crisp, blue waters of the Adriatic. Day 1: Milna Day 1 will get you comfortable with sailing as we head out into our opening day sail. We’ll head straight for the island of Brac, where you can enjoy a late afternoon swim and ease into the Croatian way of life! This evening enjoy a cocktail as the sun goes down before heading to dinner at a local Croatian restaurant! Day 2: Hvar This morning, we set sail for the Pakleni Island archipelago, taking in the iconically Dalmatian views as we cruise through the 18 picturesque islands that make up the archipelago before arriving in Palmizana (a short water taxi from Hvar Town). This afternoon we'll catch a water taxi to Hvar Town to experience the ‘French Riviera’ of Croatia; home of super yachts, DJ’s and epic beach parties! Climb to Hvar’s 16th-century fortress for stunning views over the harbour and surrounding islands, then unwind at iconic beach club, Hula Hula Bar. After dinner at one of the many waterfront restaurants, mingle with fellow Sail Croatia crew at Nautica Bar! Day 3: Vis Today we set sail for the majestic island of Vis, one of the most outlying islands on the Dalmatian coast. Vis has been used over the centuries as a strategic military port and saw action by the Allied military through WWII against Italy and Germany. It has only recently opened to commercial tourism and still retains a lot of its historical charm, as it is not frequently visited due to its location. Vis is home to the stunning sandy beach of Stoncica Bay, where we’ll stop for a swim before heading into Vis Town. Day 4: Stari Grad This morning we sail towards Stari Grad stopping for a refreshing swim stop along the way. Situated on the northern side of Hvar island, Stari Grad literally means 'Old Town' and it is the oldest town in Croatia. Stari Grad boasts an attractive network of old narrow streets and small squares around the harbour. This evening we will come together to enjoy a delicious onboard dinner prepared by your Skipper. Day 5: Jelsa This morning we’ll sail towards Jelsa, also located on Hvar Island. This afternoon you’ll have the option to visit the UNESCO protected world heritage site of Stari Grad, where you can explore a local farm and experience Croatian wine at its best! Day 6: Makarska This morning we’ll leave Brac behind and make our way down the coast to the breathtaking town of Makarska. We’ll anchor in a secluded bay along the way, where we'll while away the hours at the onboard Punch Party, swimming, sunbathing on the deck and taking it all in with an ice-cold drink in hand. Later in the afternoon, we'll enjoy a short sail into Makarska, a seaside town that nestles under the massive peaks of the Biokovo mountain range, with Mt Jure being the highest seaside peak in the Mediterranean. Once docked you’ll have the option to visit Marineta; a bar serving up delicious cocktails, or head out for freshly caught seafood at one of the many restaurants in this seaside town! Tonight it’s time for the Blue & White Boat Party! Grab your finest linen outfit, boat shoes and chic vibes for a party on the top deck with your fellow shipmates! After the sun sets we’ll head to one of the bars or nightclubs located in Markaska Town. Whether it's cocktails at Bety Bar, or partying in a natural cave next to the sea at Club Deep, the nightlife in Makarska will keep you partying well into the night. Day 7: Split Shake off your Makarska induced hangover with a strong cup of coffee as we set sail towards our final destination, Split. This stunning waterfront city features an abundance of Roman architecture and the spectacular Diocletian's Palace that has to be seen to be believed! If you didn't get the opportunity to experience Split prior to your departure, this is the time to discover the many hidden cafes, bars and restaurants strewn throughout the palace walls before enjoying your final night with new friends! Day 8: Split Rise and shine – at 8:30am you’ll say goodbye to your crew and make your way on to your next adventure.
