This is Part 2 of the video I made with Steve the Camera and Ben the surveyor about how we all sometimes get tired of boats costing loads of money. They don’t have to, and for the person prepared to work hard and use initiative, it’s sometimes surprising what can be found lurking in the back of boatyards all over the western world. We just have to think outside the box. I suggest you watch Part 1 first. #boat, #sailing, #boating, #boatlife If you’re interested in sailing, things maritime and the salty road to freedom, you'll enjoy my channel, so pour yourself a glass of the finest and settle down with my personal mixture of yarns and useful instructional material. Hi All, Welcome to our channel, In this episode we sail the short jump between Saint Lucia and Martinique……… We are Andrew and Irene a middle aged (well not sure what age range that encompasses nowadays ) couple pursuing an adventure on the high seas. We sail on the good ship Saracen, a Beneteau Oceanis 473 from 2006. Out journey started in Scotland in early 2023 and our ultimate goal is to sail around the globe …..slowly. • Rettung in drei Phasen: Vorbereitung – Bergung – Nachsorge. This was the most difficult video I have had to do to date. We were left with no choice but to put our beloved Golden boy in heaven. He's crossed over the rainbow bridge to be the fun and free playful pup he was with us. Kobe's Story: We got him from the Mid FL Golden Retriever Rescue and adopted him when he was a 1 1/2 years old. He loved to play in the back yard and tear up the plants and bushes and did his holes. We gave him the best life we could. He went camping with us, dog parks, beaches and swimming whenever we could. He grew close to me (Nancy) during covid when I was working from home and he loved his treats! We knew that he was abused as a puppy however, we didn't know how severe those injuries were until now. This whole time he suffered without complaint from a broken hip that never quite healed correctly. Because of the sustained injuries while he was a puppy, he was always in constant pain but we never knew until recently. We discovered the extent of his injuries along with advance stages of arthritis and hip dysplasia. We made the difficult choice after the pain and inflammatory meds didn't work that we would like Bear tell us when he wanted to let go of us. The vet suggested that we could try laser therapy but that would only provide little relief if any. We made his last few months (we thought we had more time) as comfortable as possible and decided that we would not chose to put him down until he told us. He didn't want to walk anymore and a golden that doesn't want to eat? and cried all night long from the pain was too much for us. It was time. We both took the day off work, gave him his last walk, last hamburger from macdonld's and he peacefully crossed over the rainbow bridge with Andy and I holding him. It has been difficult for all of us including our other 2 dogs who wonder what happened to him. 3 months later and we still mourn the loss of our beloved boy and laugh at the funny things he did and talk about how much he would have enjoyed sailing with us as he loved being on the boat with us. Final project to complete to leave. Now that this is done, we will be leaving next week and starting our cruising journey. Thank you for following along with us for the past 3 years as we worked hard to get this boat ready to leave. She is now 90% complete and enough for us to live comfortable. Sailing from Chaldiki all the way up to the thermal springs of Loutra Edipsou was a challenging but rewarding sail. It took us 3 days cuz of the strong and inconstant winds. On our way up we stop first at the pine forest by the sea which is still a pretty weird experience and then on a hided bay where we sow a glaxy trimaran which is one of the weirdest boat in the world.
Join us as we continue our sailing adventure in Brazil aboard SV Excelsior! We settle into the stunning Stella Marina Marina at Barra de São Miguel, the perfect base to explore the breathtaking Praia do Gunga — one of the most beautiful beaches in the Alagoas region. We swap sails for wheels and get our adrenaline fix on an epic quad bike tour along this famous stretch of coastline, with massive dunes and incredible ocean views all around. Back on board, it’s another day in the life of cruisers — the fridge needs fixing (again!) before we can set sail. But the ocean has a surprise for us… During our final swim, we have an unforgettable encounter with a gentle manatee and her calf. Just when it’s time to say goodbye to our new friends at Stella Marina, things take a turn — Excelsior’s keel gets caught on a neighbouring boat’s floating anchor line. Will we escape this one and continue our journey north? Watch now to find out — it’s all part of the adventure! 🌊⚓️🐚 #sailingvlog #sailingbrazil #sailinglife #liveaboard #praiadogunga #barradesaomiguel #cruisinglife #svexcelsior #sailingadventure

2025 was the year we took the biggest leap of our lives, buying our very own catamaran and starting our first full liveaboard sailing season. And while it was hands-down the best year we’ve ever had, it also came with some of the most challenging, stressful, and downright terrifying moments we’ve ever faced at sea. In this episode, we’re looking back across our videos at the biggest challenges of our first liveaboard season, sharing the moments that tested us both physically and mentally, and showing the reality of yacht life beyond the instagram highlights. Living on a boat in the Mediterranean isn’t always sunshine and calm anchorages… sometimes it’s fear, exhaustion, tough decisions, and learning the hard way. We’ll take you through our most frightening overnight passage crossing from the Balearic Islands back to mainland Spain, our brutal introduction to boat life during a Bay of Biscay crossing, we relive the moment we tried to save another yacht as it crashed onto the rocks in Formentera, and finally the terrifying experience of discovering flooding in our master cabin while sailing 60 nautical miles offshore. Despite everything, we’re excited to do it all over again this year (with hopefully less drama!). Thanks for watching, and we’ll chat with you in the comments ⛵💙 0:00 - 0:40 Introduction 0:40 - 6:00 Caught in a lighten storm 6:00 - 11:41 Bay of Biscay Passage 11:41 - 19:18 Yacht crashes onto shore 19:18 - 27:04 Yacht Floods Offshore 27:04 - 27:32 Conclusion & outro Hey! We arrive in Longyearbyen by sail and immediately step into polar bear country. Armed hikes, abandoned coal mines and daily life at the edge of the Arctic — this is the unfiltered reality of Svalbard. After sailing 125 nautical miles through the High Arctic from Hornsund to Longyearbyen, navigating light winds, ocean swell and the constant challenge of ice detection. What begins as a calm overnight passage becomes a lesson in patience, seamanship and decision-making as the wind fades and the engine takes over for the final miles. Arriving in Longyearbyen, Svalbard reveals itself as a place of stark beauty and hidden complexity. Beyond the harbour and fjords lies a layered story of whalers, trappers and coal miners, shaped today by accelerating climate change and growing geopolitical importance. From abandoned mines and roaming reindeer to strict polar-bear safety rules, daily life here feels both fragile and resilient. This episode blends offshore sailing, Arctic navigation, and an honest look at how climate, history and politics intersect at the northern edge of Europe. IS THIS SABOTAGE? | TRINIDAD HAUL OUT MYSTERY Sand in our sail drive oil wasn't something we expected to find during a routine haul out in Trinidad. So how did it get there... and could it be sabotage? This week we haul out in Chaguaramas, Trinidad, one of the most popular and cost effective Caribbean boatyard destinations, especially for cruisers staying south of the hurricane belt. If you're interested in sailing the caribbean, long distance cruising, boat maintenance, or life aboard a family sailboat, subscribe and follow our journey.
