So... This time we go to plan B and visit Tropea for a few days, before we are finally ready to untie the lines and leave the marina where we've been stuck for way too long. This is the twenty-first episode of the second season of "She rules the waves", a series about the adventures, the upgrades, the maintenance of the perfect live aboard sailboat for a sailing musician. #sailing #atlantic #atlanticocean #boatgalley #cooking #cooking-offshore #espada #sailboat This is a special episode where I attempt to do some more advanced cooking in the middle of the Atlantic. On this 4-day passage to the Azores I decided to cook Espada with passionfruitsauce, mashed potatoes and fried bananas. In this special episode I show you the whole process but if you are curios about the captains reaction eating it you should check out our ordinary episode 63. If you ever wondered how it is to cook in a small boat galley while being far off-shore then this video is for you. We call this Episode 63 B because I have cut out the cooking part from our regular episode 63 where our buddy boat get engine problems passage to the remote islands of Azores check-out the episode to see how it goes and find out our 4 lessons learnt. We are a middle aged couple that has left our hectic business lives to go sailing with our boat Fridá af Wisby and our cat Litza. Our goal is not to go to a specific place but to reach a state of mind where we can really enjoy life. Follow us on Noforeignland https://www.noforeignland.com/boat/fridaafwisby?sid=6095395836919808&tc=1674678682264 Anders has been at the sea most of his life and sailed for the Swedish natioal Soling sailing team as a young man. Gitte has also grown up with boats and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager but made a pause of about 15 years without sailing as an adult, had just begun to pick-up the interest before she meet Anders in 2017. Onboard we also have our cat Litza a 4 year old Devon Rex we call her the cattain because cats always decide over their humans. Fridá af Wisby is a Wauquiez 47 pilot saloon that we Gitte and Anders bought in UK in 2019 and that we have sailed to Gotland and in season 1 2020 we sail in the Baltic Sea. During season 2 We sailded south to Dieppe Normandy France. After a winter in France in Season 3 we started to sail the Atlantic coast of Europe to Xufre in Spain where we lifted the boat over the summer while we where back in Gotland to work at our hostel we got there. Season 4 got a short sailing season where we only sailed to Lagos on the Algarve coast of Portugal where we hauled out once again this time to go throug a long list of boatwork and to build a solar arch to make the boat more self-suficient with electricity. After 6 months in Lagos we kicked-off season 5 with real bluewater sailing first to the northerly Atlantic island Porto Santo and Madeira and then further out to the Azores that lays in the middle of the Atlantic ocean before turning back towards the mainland and south coast of Portugal again.

Time for us to make some money! Travel is expensive, even when you do it as cheaply as possible. Chris had an opportunity for a work trip in Chicago and we decided to capitalize on the winter months when we couldn't be sailing in Ontario. The idea is to make as much as we can so we can travel more comfortably for longer. Patreon: www.patreon.com/turtlecrossingtsailing Merch: www.turtlecrossing.ca Music: Epidemic Sound
We were encouraged to tape and share the performance from the first day of our cruise on the Carnival Valor by the director. We decided to put it into a separate video, as it's guaranteed that Youtube will not let us monetize it due to copyright restrictions, but we felt you would still enjoy the show! This one was taken from my cell phone, an Iphone 8, from the upper balcony. Apologies for the grainy footage. The next two performances will be from a better camera. Our Cruise Dates: January 28 - February 02, 2023 - On the Carnival Valor out of New Orleans. Visiting Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico. _________________________________________________________________________ Want to buy us a beer? Anchored by Point Lookout at the mouth of the Potomac River. We decided to go ashore to have a picnic and do a little exploring. Turns out this area is home to Fort Lincoln, an American Civil War site with the largest northern prison camp of the war. Episode 033 Since moving onboard our sailing boat, Te Tāiko, we have experienced many adverse weather events in New Zealand in the span of 18 months. There have been so many of these events that we haven’t filmed all of them. We have spent a lot of time hiding from strong winds, storms, and bad weather. We've experienced up to 60 knots of wind in an anchorage and up to 50 knots plus in the marina. Little did we know that the worst was yet to come. We had just gone through a squash zone (the bit between a high and a low pressure system) when Adam noticed the possibility of a cyclone forming in the tropics. This cyclone was soon called Cyclone Gabrielle. We now had some decisions to make and prepare Tāiko and us for Cyclone Gabrielle. What we didn’t expect was the devastating impact Gabrielle was going to have on our home town of Hawke’s Bay and the East Coast of New Zealand. After seeing the devastation caused to Hawke's Bay, emotionally this was a very hard video for us to put together and we hope you can see the love we have for the East Coast of New Zealand. We're working really hard to make sure all our videos have subtitles and are currently working through our previous videos. However, the good news is this one has subtitles! We hope you enjoy it! As always, thanks for watching. Sincere thanks to Charlotte Rockstar Jones for composing and recording Te Tāiko's theme song. Please remember to subscribe, like, comment - it helps us out! After a few years of studying and working hard we decided it was time to make a change. We needed a change that would allow us to spend more time together, give us a better work/life balance, and the freedom to travel. While we still had time on our side, we wanted to use it to live rather than use it to chase money. Learning to sail was the answer. In December 2021 we moved onboard Te Tāiko, a Chico40, and since then we have been so fortunate to explore many of New Zealand’s pest free islands and its beautiful anchorages. With our love of travel and adventure, this lifestyle has enabled us to experience so much more than we could ever have imagined. From new experiences to meeting incredible people along the way, our life has been enriched in so many ways and makes us ever so more appreciative of our environment and the footprint we leave behind. Tāiko is our floating home. She gives us the freedom to go anywhere the wind and weather allows. By living a more minimalistic and sustainable lifestyle, she has provided us with a better work/life balance and has taught us to live and be present more in the moment. Tāiko has also taught us to be more independent and less reliant on services. Some of these experiences have taken us out of our comfort zone many times but as the saying goes, ‘a comfort zone is a wonderful place but nothing grows there’. Our plan is to do blue water cruising. So, over the next year we will be completing some maintenance work on Tāiko and be getting her ready to meet New Zealand’s category 1 requirements to be able to go offshore. In the meantime, follow along with us as we navigate this new lifestyle whilst sharpening our skills exploring New Zealand waters. #boatlife #boat #travelvlog #digitalnomad #lifestyle #sailing #travel

#catamaransailing #leopard48catamaran #sailingadventures #LobsterTrap #LobsterPot After transiting the #DelawareBay, we turned the corner in the #AtlanticOcean, and made a quick overnight stop in #CapeMayNJ. We anchored in front of the Coast Guard Station - a small anchorage for only a few boats, however there was heavy pleasure boat traffic in the channel, as it was Fourth of July weekend. Cape May is a go-to beach resort and cottage area for NJ, but seems to be better explored from land, or from the bay side of the bridge. We left at daybreak the next morning to catch the best wind for our next 36 hour sail. #SAILINGTOMARTHASVINEYARD We had a good sail for these 36-hours albeit a bit rough. We had following seas, but they were in the 8-10’ range and a short dominant period. We sailed fast with the parasailor but by evening the wind was too strong for that sail through the night. So, we doused the parasailor and put up the main and genoa. Not as smooth sailing, and not as fast, but safe. Note when we had the parasailor, we saw up to 23 knots TWS and were making 10-11 knots SOG. Very fast. We #snaggedalobstertrap in our rudder during this trip, but were able to remove it AND save the lobster pot gear for the fisherman. By morning we lost wind velocity, speed, and direction. We were originally heading to Nantucket to make the trip east to west, Nantucket to Newport. But with the change in wind, we changed our destination to Martha’s Vineyard. This would dramatically change our overall trip plans since we’re now going west to east, Martha’s Vineyard to Nantucket. But that’s what sailing is all about. Alcyone uses her yard to remove Murrelet's mast in Port Townsend, WA. Part of the Resourceful Sailor Series by Sailing With Josh.
We set sail from Nouméa with plans to head for the Loyalty Islands — but like most of our South Pacific cruising, our plans changed. In this episode, we navigate a new course along the east coast of New Caledonia, uncovering remote beauty and unexpected challenges. Along the way, we crossed the infamous Havannah Pass — one of the main passages through New Caledonia’s barrier reef, known for its strong tidal currents and tight timing windows — not once, but twice in just two days. Instead of our original route, we discovered: ⚓ The stunning natural anchorage in the Yaté River 🌊 The raw power and precision of the Havannah Pass 🤝 The importance of sticking together and adapting at sea 🌴 A glimpse of New Caledonia few sailors ever see If you’re dreaming of off-grid sailing, exploring the South Pacific, or just love a good twist in the journey — this one’s for you. 🎥 Subscribe for more sailing, travel, and adventure from our life aboard in the Pacific! In 2021, we traded our regular suburban lifestyle for a nomadic one and moved aboard our sailboat, Te Tāiko, a Chico 40. After three years sailing in New Zealand and preparing for Category 1 (regulations for New Zealand registered vessels planning to sail offshore), we set sail from New Zealand to Fiji on the 23 May 2024.
