Meet Shelly, the sailing kitten 🐾⛵️ Two weeks ago we rescued her on the island of Langkawi, Malaysia, and now she’s officially the newest crew member aboard our 39-foot sailboat Stella. From malnourished island kitten to curious boat cat in training, she’s learning the ropes (literally!) of sailing life at sea. Kite test day on the Atlantic! We flew the kite for about 4–5 hours, switching between manual control and full autopilot to see how the yacht performs in different wind angles and loads. In lighter breeze we held around 5.3–5.6 knots with minimal power draw. In stronger wind, the kite and solar together kept us close to energy-neutral at ~6 knots, even with the boat fully underway. Every hour teaches us more. We’re learning as we go, testing conditions, fine-tuning the setup and gathering real data for the rest of the passage. More updates coming from the ocean. In diesem Video erzähle ich dir die Geschichte, wie ich mein Boot in einer Bucht in Kroatien fast verloren hätte. Damals war ich noch relativ unerfahren als Bootsbesitzer – und genau das wurde mir an diesem Tag fast zum Verhängnis. Nach einer langen Hitzeperiode im August entdeckte ich eine wunderschöne, aber tückische Bucht. Viele Boote lagen dort mit Anker und Heckleine – also wollte ich das genauso machen. Was ich NICHT wusste: Diese Art zu ankern kann bei plötzlichen Wetterumschwüngen extrem gefährlich werden. Innerhalb weniger Minuten zog ein sogenannter „Neverin“ über die Bucht – ein heftiges Gewitter mit über 50 Knoten Wind. Mein Anker hielt nicht, die Kette war zu kurz gesteckt und plötzlich wurde mein Boot gegen die Felsen gedrückt. 👉 4 Stunden Kampf gegen Wind, Wellen und die Angst, alles zu verlieren 👉 Boot im Felsen eingeklemmt 👉 Verletzung an Bord 👉 Keine Hilfe auf Kanal 16 Am Ende hatten wir Glück – aber diese Erfahrung hat mir gezeigt, wie wichtig richtige Vorbereitung und Wetterbeobachtung beim Ankern ist.
