This week, we start with a visit from the one and only Sam Holmes—a real, actual sailor! Sam regales us with tales of suffering and single handing his sailboat, and gives us some advice for the passages in our future. If you’re not already following him, make sure to check him out out at @Sam Holmes Sailing. The real meat and potatoes of the episode, though, will be calibrating the autopilot, getting our navigation electronics working correctly again, and rewiring our ePropulsion electric dinghy motor to get rid of the connector that keeps leaving us stranded. Calibrating the autopilot was a piece of cake. Rewiring the electric engine? Not so much. But more on that later… I had a crazy idea while a few of Robin’s friends were in town: I wanted to drop the anchor while under sail for the first time. I de-powered the boat by dropping a few of the bigger sails, leaving us to sail in under just the jib. Robin dropped the anchor just right, and loaded up the tender to test out the new battery connections…which, sadly, only worked for that one ride. Turns out the best way to repair the connection on an ePropulsion motor is to buy a gas outboard ;-) Our old friend George arrives with a brand new, reliable, but loud and smelly Honda. Dinghy motor issued, solved. And just in time to host another group of Robin’s friends. Together, we explored Boca Chita Key, and Elliot Key…some of the cleanest, clearest waters we’ve seen since the Dry Tortugas! Back to the ePropulsion electric motor…after trying to figure out what went wrong, Steve realizes that the data wires are too short for the connectors. We’re not giving up on the eProp, but getting the electric motor back online is going to require more time than we have at the moment, so we’re going to put a pin in that (pun intended). Thank you to everyone who sent ideas and advice for our ePropsulsion electric motor repairs, and the autopilot installation. -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat supports A2A! E' pericoloso? This time Im in the Tobago Cays with the Pirates of the Caribbean, well not with them but where they filmed! I do some major chillin meet some rasta park rangers and do some brilliant free diving with some cool Stingrays. Thanks to all for watching. Thanks also to my Patreons for their support Please checkout our page on the link below. https://www.patreon.com/Adventuresofanoldseadog Please 'thumbs up' this episode of Adventures of an old Seadog, I hope you enjoyed it. A great deal of work and love goes into every video in the series. On Facebook our page is ‘Adventures of an old Seadog’ and there you can find ‘realtime’ up-dates and news that you are welcome to share with your friends. All of the ‘Seadog’ videos are available to watch on the ‘Barry Perrins’ channel on Youtube. For notifications on new releases please subscribe. Thanks so much for your support, The adventure continues. Safe sailing. Twitter https://twitter.com/barryperrins Facebook https://www.facebook.com/adventuresofanoldseadog/ Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘blar bar mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. With lines that display beauty and muscle, the Galeon 560 Fly is eye-catching indeed. Her hull side windows blend into treatments that give them a full-length look and a modern feel. But there’s even more appeal when she’s boarded and the fit and finish start to manifest themselves upon the eyes. This is a yacht that is luxurious and her design stylings make that clear. Conception Island is a small island in the Bahamas Southeast of Cat island and Northeast of Long Island. It is considered an out island and is definitely off the beaten track. It’s a small island and completely protected so there is no fishing or spearfishing allowed which helps keep it absolutely pristine and one of the most beautiful islands in the Bahamas!! We discovered lots of soft patches on the Bow on Nandji and take the plunge and see what we find. We are repairing Nandji to continue our journey Sailing around the world. https://www.sailingnandji.com In this episode of Sailing Nandji we are held up from the engine install and start on another repair project of attending to the soft spots on the bow. We remove the old windlass to install the new but discover a little more rot than expected! Yosh takes to the soft spots with a chisel and hammer and uncovered wet wood under the fibreglass. Like most boat jobs, things must get worse before they can get better and before you know it, a huge portion of the bow is ripped up and wood taken out. We take you through the steps we used to repair, replace and restore the area. We are a young couple with a dog, who with no sailing experience, bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We have just sailed 2000nm through Indonesia and have arrived to Malaysia to complete major boat work, ready for the next big adventure. We departed Australia 18 months ago and have since explored some amazing countries, met some beautiful people and experienced different cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! We're Nick and Terysa and we’ve become completely obsessed with the idea of sailing around the world and sharing our experiences and information through our sailing lifestyle videos with others. We met travelling around India, and quickly agreed that rather than “settling down” and doing what most normal people do, we wanted to travel and have adventures! We moved onto our 38 foot monohull in 2014, sailed across the Atlantic twice, cruised the Caribbean, Bahamas and Europe, before buying a brand new 45 ft catamaran! We hope you enjoy what we do. Niall Myant-Best discusses the latest from Leg 3 of The Ocean Race 2022-23, as the fleet passes the famous Point Nemo. From here on out, its a drag race all the way to Cape Horn - and it's anyone's guess as to which crew will end up in the lead! Also in today's show, Niall breaks down some of the equipment used by the on-board navigators, which they will need more than ever as another storm approaches. E bravo

We go over how to install and review the Samsung Over The Range Microwave. You can install the over range microwave on your own, but having another person there is so much better. We start the video by showing how to change the blower fan vent direction depending on your venting needs. We cover how to put the filter in the inside venting and end the install with the removal of the old microwave and install of the new Samsung Over Range Microwave. Once everything was installed for the Samsung Over Range microwave, my wife " Danielle" goes over how we use it, one month after the install. Pretty much works like our last microwave with some features on the old microwave we miss, and new features of the Samsung Over Range Microwave we love. This is our second visit, and it’s just as enchanting as we remember. With tourist season only just beginning, we enjoy wandering the quiet streets, soaking up the atmosphere without the crowds. After two peaceful nights at anchor in the harbour, it’s time to move on—but not before we put a new idea to the test. We’ve been searching for a better solution to our anchoring lights, and we think we’ve finally found one that improves both stern navigation visibility and cockpit lighting. Join us as we explore a Sicilian gem and plan a small upgrade that could make a big difference onboard. Ever wondered how a boat built for British waters copes in Pacific Mexico? Wonder no further, when we discover one of the limits to a British quirk which has done our boat well for almost 40 years. But, just like we have to have to adapt to the 19 countries we have arrived to on our two year sailing adventure, its time for Teulu to adapt too. Trouble is- we were in a pandemic, had a university degree to finish, on a student budget, only had ever sailed dingies, oh and didn't have a boat. The dream seemed not only unrealistic but pretty insane. However, we worked hard, finished our degrees, worked as many hours as physically possible, saved with all our might, got experience and in March 2022 bought our very own sailboat, Teulu. Having little sailing experience and being a young couple, we have encountered a tonne of hurdles and made plenty of mistakes! but for every downfall, there has always been a reason to dust ourselves off and carry on. We hope you can join us as we sail around the world and keep #bloodydoingit *Sponsors* Kemp Sails: https://kempsails.com/ Battleborn Batteries: https://battlebornbatteries.com/?afmc=kt&utm_campaign=kt&utm_source=leaddyno&utm_medium=affiliate Lasdrop Seals: https://lasdrop.com/ EasySea Winch Handles: https://easysea.org/?sca_ref=5531402.s0BZ4EpnhN Crewsaver: https://crewsaver.com/us Rocna: https://rocna.com/ *Timestamps* 00:00 Intro 01:20 Our Trusty Calor 03:22 Ripping up the old locker 05:11 New supports and bottles 06:42 Fixing Leaky Rails 10:00 Up with the old 11:55 Epoxy filling 14:26 Breaking the angle grinder (shoes next time?) 15:36 Back on with the panel 17:37 Dingy wheel upgrade #travel #sailing #boatlife #boat #yacht #adventure #marina #knot #anchor #compass #navigation #voyage #cruising #liveaboard #wanderlust #explore #nomad #globetrotter #bucketlist #destination #passport #circumnavigation #tinyhome #offgrid #offgridliving #discover #discovery #teulutribe

Lockdown has ended in Spain and the beaches come to life. We night sail across to the Balearics. Formentera is first on the list with its beautiful white sand and crystal clear waters. It's like arriving in the Caribbean. We meet up with old cruising friends [it really is a small world] and cross to the spectacular Northern region of Ibiza. No nightclubs and Techno music here, just unspoilt coves and incredible rock formations. If you're sailing the Med. do check out Nichola's Vlog which has loads of information about Mediterranean destinations... http://www.yachtemerald.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ You Tube are now putting mid -role adds on videos, but there is a way to see the current videos with no adds at all before they get released to the public. Tenders (RIBs, Dinghies) are vital to the life of live-boards (as we discovered last year when we didn't have one anymore!) So we were thrilled to finally afford a good quality (Hypalon), hard bottom (aluminium) RIB that can take the entire family. Thanks to a quick payout form our insurance company, a great deal from Yacht Centre Palma and some domestic budget cuts, we bought a new AB Lammina 9.5AL hypalon dinghy.. which replaces our (destroyed) Caribe from last season :/ So this is just a short unboxing and test drive video to show you some of it's features and what we think of it. While at the front Charlie Dalin on MACIF Santé Prévoyance holds a slim lead over Yoann Richomme on PAPREC ARKÉA, it is icebergs to the south of Point Nemo which are the concern in the Vendée Globe. We hear from Conrad Colman about the icebergs, Clarisse Crémer who has rounded Cape Horn and a New Year's Eve update from Giancarlo Pedote in the Pacific Ocean which we received yesterday.. We then discuss the latest tracker, leaderboard and PredictWind routing options for both Charlie Dalin and Séb Simon. We conclude with a clip from Sébastien Marsset in the iceberg zone. #vg2024 #imoca #vendeeglobe #sailing

With just a week left before sailing from Maine to Cape Cod, time is ticking. A major improvement includes permanently mounting the solar panels to the shrouds, leading Steve to an unfavorable task of drilling a hole into Arabella’s locust covering boards. Recent sewing projects include a pouch for the reef lines on the boom and a berth lee cloth to prevent anyone from falling out of their bunk. Tasks below the waterline—an anode replacement on the propeller and a good scrape to the bottom—call for a diver. Taking a break from the epic to-do list, Steve enjoys a major perk of living on the Maine coast—lobstering. Fun fact: bands are placed on lobsters to not only protect humans, but to protect themselves from each other. Without bands, lobsters will attack. After checking on the traps a week after setting them, a nice lobster dinner is enjoyed by all. In this follow-up to my last video, where I responded to Sailing La Vagabonde’s five reasons why more sailors don’t come to Japan, I address the many comments and questions I received about their recent accident. While most were constructive and appreciative, some included misinformation, criticism, or negativity. That video was filmed before the their collision with a fishing boat, and in this update, I share the facts I know to clarify the situation. More importantly, I step back to provide critical insights for cruisers considering Japan: --- Key points about anchoring in Japan. ----The rhythm and reality of the Japanese fishing industry. Japan offers exceptional cruising opportunities, but understanding its unique maritime culture and practices is essential. Join me as I share lessons learned and encourage thoughtful navigation of these waters. Anchoring is legal in Japan, outside of harbors. It is NOT LEGAL to anchor within a harbor unless, in the rare case, there is a designated anchorage. Sailing La Vagabond was anchored legally outside the harbor. Hence, the Captain of the local fishing boat took responsibility. SLV HAD checked with their agent, Kirk Patterson of Konpira Consulting, to confirm their choice of anchorage was legal. They were not at fault! Also, it is worth noting that with the increase in aqua farming, fishermen's go-to-sea schedules are much more structured and regular than traditional fishing. 🎥 Subscribe for more sailing insights at Pacific Solo on YouTube. For more review, test, performance data, captain reports and more about the 2015 Boston Whaler 210 Dauntless, go to http://www.boattest.com/boats/boat_video.aspx?ID=3303&ref=YT Here’s a boat from a Boston Whaler that firmly embraces the concept of multi-tasking. The 210 Dauntless sits firmly in the middle of the five-boat range of the company’s most versatile Dauntless Series. At just over 20’ (6.10 m), she’s easily transported. Her standards include amenities for both fishing and family activities. For more “involved” days both of these tasks can be enhanced with a multitude of options. And she seamlessly transitions between tasks, making her even more attractive. Best of all, her handling is right on par with what we’ve come to expect from the brand.
