In this episode, we finally made it back home to our boat and opened her front hatch after 2 months being shut up. Although she smelled a bit musty, she was actually not in bad condition and a few hours of unpacking and putting her back together got her looking normal again. The next day we woke up early… jet lag had kicked in and we found ourselves hungry, in the middle of the night, with a not-so-tempting can of lentils to feed us. So as soon as the sun rose, we were up and out of the boat and to the nearest shop we could find for a small provision… enough for coffee and pancakes! Shortly after, we started our move to the next bay (Prickly Bay) to stock up on actual food and boat parts. Before we could move however, Adam had to go in for a swim to chisel away some unwelcome growth that had been calling our propeller it’s home for the last 2 months. Once in Prickly Bay, we found an Hardware shop and well… that was where we became aware that we were long overdue for a good old boat job!! I wanted to put together a series videos on a recent 7 night charter we did through the US and British Virgin Islands onboard a luxury charter catamaran. This was the first time that I used a charter broker, and was blown away by the level of concierge service received. It made the entire booking process and planning process absolutely painless. The best part of using a charter broker is that the boat paid her fees, so there was no cost to us!!! We used Laura Jagielski with Denison Yacht Charters. B) Motor from French Town to West End to clear customs C) Motor around to Cane Garden Bay for the afternoon/evening. We hung out at Meet's. Day 2: A) Amazing beam reach sail from Cane Garden Bay to Sandy Spit. We hung out at Sandy Spit for a few hours. B) Sailed from Sandy Spit around to White Bay. We hung out at the famous Soggy Dollar Bar, One Love, and Ivan's. C) Sailed around to Great Harbour, Jost Van Dyke. Had an amazing dinner on the boat, and then went ashore for drinks and dancing at Foxy's. Day 3: A) Sailed from Jost Van Dyke to The Indians. We hung out on the boat, did a LOT of snorkeling, and a couple of dives. B) Sailed over to Norman Island, and picked up a mooring ball in "The Bite." Went ashore to Pirate's Bite Bar, dinner on the boat, and then partying at the infamous Willy T's.

Hog Island is NOT for everyone, so we had to find out WHY! When we sailed here to meet up with friends of ours, our OTHER friends said, "Ohh... Noo, we don't go over there." Now that we're here, we can see this place is home to one of the stickiest anchorages we've ever seen -- so what do you think? Would you avoid this island, or could you stay here forever?? Beach day, dinghy ride, boat bottoms, shipwreck, water manifolds. After many rainy days it was time to enjoy a day at the beach. We are beach bums. Using the dinghy and a HawkEye hand held depth sounder, Karen measures the depths around the boat. Steve uses the GoPro to check out the bottom of Isabella and the dinghy. Investigated a supposed shipwreck where birds like to hang out. Hung out, so to speak, at the Garden of Eden again. You can certainly get an all over tan there. Rebuilt the fresh water distribution manifold to increase functionality and aesthetics. Added valves to it so that a single circuit can be shut off while keeping the water flowing to the rest of the boat. Of course we danced. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. As we get nearer to completion of our Seawind Catamaran we are starting to finalize our options for the boat. One of the most important options choice for us was if and which engines to upgrade to. The debate of inboard diesel vs gas outboard engines is a very interesting one in the sailing catamaran world. It is one that really had us on the fence. On the way to Roatan, we decided to do a little stopover in Utila. The sail there was one of Karl's fastest ever and we ended up having to heave to for a couple of hours because we were way faster than expected. Unfortunately, I have to drop of Tom very soon for a job in Roatan, so we were rushing through a little bit. But even despite that and despite the bad weather it has been a nice stopover.
