In this episode Saoirse arrives in Sabang, Indonesia, north of Sumatra. While underway we display how we refuel, using a siphon hose from a jerrican. Upon arrival in Sabang, we head up a lookout tower and Kevin gets a nasty surprise. Sabang is a neat little island unlike most of the other Indonesian islands we've visited. A walking tour shows us some lookouts and history, including abandoned coastal fortifications. The roads are great, so we rented scooters for a tour of the island, and got to see a waterfall, the "Kilometer Zero" monument, monkeys, and a thermal hotspring on the coast....though it was not attractive for a swim....and smelled like eggs. Juni 2025: 9.6.25 Mo: wir legten früh ab, um in Amorgos noch einen Platz am Nord-Kai zu ergattern. 37,9 sm. Es war starker Meltemi angesagt und wir wollten dort die Zeit verbringen. Wir besuchten das Kloster und konnten erst am 12.06.25 weiter segeln Am 12.06.25 war eine leichte Windbesserung angesagt. Wir legten ab nach Astypalaia. Wir setzten gleich Segel und freuten uns über den schönen Wind, der uns auf der Westseite von Amorgos mit Halbwind schnell voran brachte. Leider kamen dann die berüchtigten Fallwinde auf der Südseite von Amorgos. Wir refften nicht gleich und plötzliche - eine Böe - ich verliere die kontrolle über das Ruder und wir schiessen in den Wind. Naja, das dann folgende Reffmanöver bei 38 kn Wind war dann auch mühsam ... der Schock saß mir noch in den Knochen, als der Wind weniger wurde und sogar einschlief. Am Ende motorten wir nach Astipalea. Wir bekamen einen Platz im Hafen und legten dort als 5. an 47 sm. Wegen Meltemi blieben wir und alle anderen 5 Nächte im Hafen. Am 17.06.25 wollten wir dann bei der kleinen Insel gegenüber eine Nacht verbringen. Aber Wind und Wellen waren einfach noch zu hoch. Wir kehrten um und segelten in die Ankerbucht Livadi. Schön auch die Rückseite noch zu erleben. 16,2 sm Am 18.06.25 legten wir dann endgültig ein 2. mal ab und segelten nach Nisyros. Leider hat Youtoube mein 4K Video nur in HD veröffentlicht. Hab den Fehler gefunden. Bald kommt wieder 4 K. Sorry ... Viel Spaß beim Ansehen. Die Videos sind für Familie, Freunde und Interessierte. To start with following two days of intense competition on the Sea of Marmara, the 24th Bosphorus Cup concluded with the race on the Bosphorus Strait. The busy waterway is closed once a year to allow this impressive contest to take place, and as usual a sumptuous spectacle was laid on for both competitors and spectators. Racing in a 15 knot northerly winds, and starting from Kuruçeşme, the 55 boat fleet contested a looped course that went as far north as Anadolu Hiasari, and the impressive F S M Bridge, and south to Beşiktaş, with the finish line near Beşiktaş. Hugo Cardon on his Figaro 3, Sarth'Atlantique, won the second leg of La Solitaire du Figaro Paprec. This young rookie managed to cover the distance in 4 days 2 hours 14 minutes and 29 seconds. He is ahead of Alexis Loison in Groupe Reel, winner of the first leg, and the formidable Charlotte Yven, on Skipper Macif 2023. In the provisional general classification, Alexis Loison strengthens his lead before the third and final leg. The Ocean Race Europe 2025, came to a spectacular close in Montenegro’s Boka Bay with a dramatic coastal showdown that saw French, Paul Me-hat’s Biotherm put the icing on the cake and win again in the final coastal race in style. Team Paprec Arkéa, crossed in second to secure the overall runner-up spot on 40 points, with skipper Yoann Richomme praising his team’s consistency throughout the six-week race. Here are the best bits on Leg 5. With summery sunshine warming the dock at Lorient La Base, the skippers, exhausted by the two-day frenzy of manoeuvres, congratulated themselves on the diversity of the course in this 48H Azimut. "Fun", "intense", "fantastic", "tortuous", "demanding"... there was certainly no shortage of adjectives to describe the 48 H and its 'Figaro leg' vibes. Tougher than ever, this 14th Défi Azimut-Lorient Agglomération required the skippers to dig incredibly deep to hold rank. After a much needed stopover in Puerto Sherry, the Clipper Race fleet is back at sea! The teams set off on the YCPE Cup, to Punta del Este 🇺🇾. This stage brings the second half of the Atlantic Trade Winds - a test of tactics, patience, and teamwork. From navigating the Canaries to the unpredictable doldrums near the equator, crews will face wind holes, squalls, and soaring heat. Crossing the equator will be a huge milestone, marked by the legendary King Neptune ceremony - a rite of passage for every sailor. Four days of close racing in Scarlino brought the Swan Tuscany Challenge to a spectacular conclusion. This is a short clip of a recent Gale in the North Atlantic halfway between Cape Cod and Bermuda. Wind speed at this point were in the mid 30's and seas were still building. This system lasted 48 hours and during the peak I had to hand steer for about 6 hours as the windvane couldn't keep the boat on a good heading. The thing to remember is this is 6 minutes of 48 hours, day and night winds above 34 knots. The only damage this time was a ripped spray skirt.
