We sailed Carriacou before Hurricane Beryl. Our favorite spot on Carriacou was Sandy Island - just around the corner from Tyrell Bay customs checkin, but another world altogether. Even then it was just sand, coral reefs, palm trees, and salt ponds. Now, there is little of that even left, but in time, it will rebuild itself. The currents that drop sand there will keep doing their natural thing. It needs few words to describe the beauty - just enjoy the video! Sandy island, off Paradise Beach, near Hillsborough, Carriacou’s capital city is a protected marine park. It’s the largest and most biologically diverse MPA in Grenada and is a unique ecosystem that features a mangrove network, coral reefs, sea grasses, and marine and avi fauna. There are mooring balls which we recommend you use. You can also anchor but you must be far off the coral reefs and only in the sand. Snorkeling was fantastic on the south end for big schools of yellow grunts and big coral heads at the north end. In addition to the usual Caribbean reef fish, we spotted large nurse sharks, rays, and turtles, as well as the flashy silversides. The area is popular for humpback whales in their migration path, but we did not spot any. The beach itself is great for relaxing, picnic and swimming. After getting an overload of sun at the beach, we had dinner at Paradise Beach restaurant - run by a former New Yorker, so of course it was good. The owner’s son will greet you upon arrival at Sandy Island and ask you to make a reservation AND he will pick you up and bring you back no charge. Totally worth it for the food and dining experience and saves having to beach your dinghy. Prima tappa la baia di Bua, un ancoraggio sicuro, circondato dalle mangrovie, per trascorrere una notte tranquilla protetti dagli alisei di Sudest. La mattina seguente navighiamo fino a Yadua, un'isola situata al confine con il canale "Vatu-i-Ra" che separa le grandi isole di Viti Levu e Vanua Levu, una zona geografica in cui gli alisei si incanalano e accelerano creando anche mare fastidioso e ripido. A Yadua il vento soffia sempre forte durante la stagione invernale e non manca neanche quando diamo fondo nella baia di Cukuvou Harbour. Eccoci pronti ad esplorare Yadua, incontrare i pescatori locali e infine navigare lungo il passaggio "Vatu-i-Ra" per raggiungere la piu' settentrionale delle Isole Yasawa. Handed over to her first and only owner in the summer of 2015, SAPPHIRE BLUE has only been used privately and always with a professional crew on board. Her maintenance regime has been pro-active and thorough, her owner is extremely experienced and has always been closely involved in the management and sailing of the yacht. In between building a "state-of-the art" IMOCA 60 to sail this year's Route Du Rhum and the next Vendee Globe Jeremie is sailing the Volvo Ocean Race with his mates on the mainly French crew of the Chinese entry Dongfeng. They are currently sailing between Melbourne and Hong Kong the home port of the Australian/Hong Kong entry Sun Hung Kai/Scallywar. Jeremie is a regular visitor to Australia as he sailed in the 2015 Rolex Sydney Hobart on the Volvo 70 then owned by Jim Delegat. The lost their mast in that race and Jim and the boat went on to win the 2016 race.
