Hog Cay is a fabulous island to spend a week lobstering, spearfishing, hiking and sea glass hunting. We loved the remoteness yet strong internet (Strongest in the Bahamas yet!), the other cruisers who are all unique as this is not a destination for the faint of heart, and the island life. We spent a couple of days spearfishing and lobster hunting out in the ocean before the winds picked up. And, on windy days, we took advantage of hiking the island and searching for sea glass. The ocean side had the the perfect environment for tumbling glass into perfectly shaped, frosted masterpieces. After a month in Bimini, several trips back to the states, we've finally had the opportunity to move on and head to the Berry Islands on While One. Our Son, Sam, spent about 4 weeks around Christmas with us. Upon our return from visiting family and Sam returning back to the University of Arizona, it was time for us to go. This was our first solo passage as husband and wife. The trip was about 80nm and fortunately, we had a weather window do depart on my birthday. What an awesome birthday present! We arrived after dark and the markers to get into the anchorage were all missing...a bit disconcerting at dark when you're fearful of either running aground or hitting one of them! In this episode, we explore the island. The following weekend, we head to the western side of the island for some clearer water and a great beach. ► Full Article in Multihulls World N°203. ► Our senior sailing reporter Brieuc Maisonneuve took advantage of a delivery trip (part of which he completed single-handed) at the helm of a trimaran to take stock of what is involved in preparing for solo sailing. Some offers are too good to miss! I’ve got a couple of friends who own a Neel 43, and they asked me to deliver their trimaran from Carteret, in Normandy, to Venice, Italy. The plan was a superb 2,000-nautical-mile voyage with a few tricky areas to navigate: getting clear of the Western Approaches (to the English Channel), with their strong tidal currents and heavy maritime traffic, the crossing of the Bay of Biscay, the descent southward along the Iberian coast with the potential risk of encountering killer whales, the passage through the Straits of Gibraltar, then across the Mediterranean and the Adriatic, two seas with often-changing conditions. The good news is that the multihull had to be in port by July 1 at the latest. By planning to leave in mid-May, I could choose the right weather window. To keep my skills sharp, I decided to sail solo for the first leg to Porto. A crewmate would then join me to continue the voyage. In this article, I invite you to join me in preparing for the trip. Tra un viaggio e l' altro in barca a vela nel Mediterraneo con la Maruzza, adoro esplorare i posti meno conosciuti e selvaggi del pianeta. Diversi anni fa e' toccato al Venezuela! Ho passato parecchio tempo negli Llanos, le pianure alluvionali che stanno tra l' Amazzonia e la costa tropicale. E' un posto davvero incredibile, infestato di piranha, caimani e ogni tipo di zanzare! La gente del posto e' dura come il cuoio stagionato ma anche accogliente e gentile e farsi ospitare in una fattoria sperduta nel niente e' davvero facile. Lì dominano i cavalli, le mucche e ogni tipo di fauna selvaggia, dalle anaconde ai caimani; dai delfini di fiume ai capipara, i piu' grandi roditori del mondo! Grossi come cani!! E' bellissimo ma anche un incubo! Vivevo nelle capanne dei locali procurandomi la cena come capitava, esplorando i fiumi in canoa e cercando di sopravvivere con quello che imparavo durante il cammino, Un' esperienza incredibile di liberta' che mi ha preparato per tutte le grandi avventure che poi sono seguite, dall' Africa, all' India ai grandi orizzonti del mare.
