How Our Bike Lift Works On Our Semi Truck, How To Get Motorcycle on Semi Truck About The Video: In This Video We Show YOU How Our Bike Lift Works On Our Semi Truck and How To Get a Motorcycle on a Semi Truck We have a bike lift on the back of our semi-truck, which stores our 2007 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail. When we have a 34-hour restart, a free afternoon and, weather permitting, we take her off and go explore. We arrived on Friday and the Tampa Fairgrounds personnel were so awesome, allowing us to park for the weekend, for a Monday unload; so, we took our bike off and explored. We used Mountain Masters in Phoenix, Arizona, which I talk about on my blog. After several modifications and a LOT of grief, the lift actually works fine; but dealing with Jerry at this business was a nightmare. In retrospect, we both agree, that we should have gone with their competitors--and I would highly recommend that you thoroughly research all of your options. About Us: Aloha! As we look back at 2021 and our sailing trips our Gemini 105mc Catamaran, road trips, and experiences we have grown and learned from we are eager to move head first into 2022. We are planning a big sailing adventure for this year. We really enjoyed exploring Southern California and Catalina Island.

Everything was perfect. The weather forecast, the planning, the start at 04:00 from Haslar Marina in darkness. We successfully negotiated our way along the planned route with our pilotage plan out of the marina, out of Portsmouth harbour. We successfully avoided being run down by 3 cruise liners in their final miles into Southampton and did not catch one single lobster pot off Bembridge and we were at Bembridge Cardinal on time as planned at 05:00. An enjoyable sunrise and just when we started to relax things turned sour. The wind veered from east to south (as forecast) and we had it on our nose. So on went the engine and the trouble started. To cut a long story short, under the impression that we had a performance problem with our engine we decided to return through the Needles to have this fixed. Only to find out the next day, after a night in East Cowes Marina, and after having joined SeaStart (the RAC on water), which included the attendance of engineer Matt, that the apparent performance issue of our engine was caused by an algae which grew in front of the paddle wheel of our water speed log with the result that the latter constantly under-read our speed through the water, suggesting a performance issue with the engine. Skipper embarrassed, crew disappointed, we returned into Haslar in a Westerly F6-7 (under engine). #Sea start #Volo Penta #Haslar # Portsmouth #East Cowes #Needles #Sailing #Alderney #passage planning

Take a look at the last racing day of the 6th Algarve Dragon Winter Cup - Round 3! 🗓 13 - 15/01 📍 Vilamoura Sailing
The biggest boat I sailed in Barbados was, in fact, the biggest boat I have ever sailed - the 100ft long engineless schooner "Ruth". I got a ride by sheer chance, being in the right place at the right time. It seemed some others in the crew were in the same boat(!), indeed some had never even sailed before. Ruth was designed by Thomas Colvin and is based on the Grand Banks fishing schooners of 100+ years ago. Surprisingly, it's actually less than 10 years old and was built in part for day charters/sailing instruction and in part for trade, as it also has a big hold for inter-island cargoes. Obviously a 100ft long boat cannot have sail controls led aft, as is the norm on smaller boats these days. So to avoid a lot of running around the crew naturally divided into 3 groups. I was mainsheet trimmer, (with some helpers) so I never saw what was happening at the foremast and I still have no idea how they handled the foresails or moored the boat. It all gave a fresh insight as to how they sailed tea clippers and men of war in Napoleonic times. The gaff mainsail is 145sqm, or around 1600sqft! with a 12m, 40ft long boom. Huge heavy wooden blocks did eventually lead to a winch but both hoisting the gaff and handling the main sheet was hard work for four of us. I found climbing out to the end of the boom, which extended out behind the stern and was maybe 15ft above the sea, somewhat daunting. I had to do that after mooring up to fit one end of the sail cover which naturally was huge, bigger than many small boat mainsails. Of course, as an engineless boat we had to pick up the mooring under sail. Somewhat challenging, especially as the freeboard was so high. But we made it, despite a riding turn on a cleat which required the whole crew - even the non sailors - to help untangle. The reason for the sail was to "race" the "Tres Hombres", another engineless boat, this time a cargo running brigantine that was leaving for Holland a couple of days later with a full cargo of rum. More on that in a later video. I took the heading photo from a bus a few days later. It was stuck in traffic, again I was at exactly the right place and time! http://www.schoonerruth.com/

We have been waiting a long time for a good weather window to go to Porto Santo. We have heard many good stories about that little island next to Madeira. But in addition to the normal weather planning, we have another consideration. ……Orcas Since 2020 an unusual phenomenon has occurred along the west coast of Europe. From the Bay of Biscay in the north to the strait of Gibraltar in the south, Orcas have been attacking sailboats and damaging the rudders. Recently this has become the subject of many news reports. In 2021 as we sailed along the west coast of Portugal we saw many boats on the hard with damaged or missing rudders. The devastating results of attacks by the orcas. The official advice to avoid the orcas has been to stay close to the shore. In a water depth of maximum 20 meters. We don’t like to sail in shallow water. Because that is where all the fishing nets and other hazards are located. If something happens, the rocky shore is very close by leaving little time to react. We have a steel ketch with a long keel, so we felt pretty safe and sailed far offshore in deeper waters. Luckily we never saw any killer whales ourselves that year. Last year we cruised the western Mediterranean where the hasn’t been any orca activity. Since the summer of 2022, the Orcas damaged sailboats so badly that 3 actually sank. Luckily there have been no human casualties. Sailors are avoiding the areas where orca sightings have been reported. We have heard reports that some harbors in these areas are nearly empty. The sailing community is continually discussing the situation with the orcas. All the sailors we’ve met are concerned about them. We’ve heard a multitude of advice from fellow sailors to avoid orca attacks or “encounters “ as they are officially called. These range from dragging a cloth soaked with diesel behind the boat because the orcas find it irritating. To towing a dinghy or an inflatable toy behind the boat, hoping the orcas will play with that instead of damaging the rudder. Some Sailors are ordering pingers to drag behind their boats. This is an acoustic repellent emitted on the 40kHz band with a powerful signal of 175 dB. The sound emitted is not repetitive, which is not very pleasant and thus repels the cetacean. It is just a sound and reportedly doesn’t cause any injury to them. However they are not allowed to be used in Spanish or Portuguese waters. Official advice if you are attacked: Turn everything off. Engine, autopilot, depth sounder etc. Drop your sails and wait till they go away. But sometimes the orcas stay for hours chewing on the rudder and and bumping the hull. Nowadays there is contradictory advice from other marine research groups; turn on your engine and go as quick as possible out of the area. If possible, head to shallow water. To us this makes more sense. The orcas live in groups and are hunting tuna. You come into their area and they want you to leave. They will follow you for a while and when they stray too far from the group, they will turn around. During encounters or attacks, sailors are employing various tactics, some of which are frowned upon or just plain illegal. These include; Placing a metal tube into the water and banging it with a hammer. Pouring sand in the water, sticking lit flares into the water, and throwing large waterproof firecrackers that will explode under water. Anything to stop them from damaging the boat and leave. We had been in the Bay of Gibraltar for a long time and the Orcas are getting more active. Especially around the corner from us on the Atlantic side of the Strait of Gibraltar. A triangle from Tangier to Barbate to Tarifa. We had a good weather window and decided to go. We left early in the morning and went through the Orca alley in daylight. Just in case we had some deterrents ready to use, hoping that we didn’t have to. Hope you enjoy! Episode 067 In this week's video, we continue our journey sailing along the Yasawa Islands, an island chain that stretches 80 km across Viti Levu’s northwest coast. Our journey started in Yolobi Bay off Waya Island and we have since made our way up the chain of islands stopping in Somosomo to wait out some strong winds. Up to now we have been fortunate to experience what the Yasawas are known for, we’ve been warmly welcomed by the people who call this place home, walked along its pristine beaches and swam in its turquoise blue waters. But our trip has not gone quite as we planned because…well… the Yasawas can be a windy place which has meant we have lost time waiting in anchorages for the strong winds to pass causing us to be wind locked to Tāiko. So far, we’ve dragged anchor, lost our shoes, sailed to windward in winds that never eased, and never swam with manta rays but still had a win as we instead snorkelled along an amazing fringing reef experiencing what Fiji is well known for. We’re still here though and we’re determined keep going and sail as far north as we can but with more strong winds forecasted, is it going to be possible for us to do at least one attraction that the Yasawas are known for? We hope you enjoy it! As always, thanks for watching. Sincere thanks to Charlotte Rockstar Jones for composing and recording Te Tāiko's theme song. After spending 2.5 years exploring New Zealand's coastline, Tāiko is now a CAT 1 registered boat and we have made our first offshore passage sailing from New Zealand to Fiji where we currently are. In December 2021 we moved aboard our sailboat Te Tāiko, a Chico 40. Tāiko is our floating home. She gives us the freedom to go anywhere the wind and weather allows. Our plan? We try not to make too many plans but we're currently in Fiji and will see where wind and sea will take us next. In the meantime, follow along with us as we navigate this lifestyle. In Episode 54 of the Sailing Goat Series, we take on the notorious Otranto Channel, sailing west to east on a 13-hour, 110NM passage in freezing 1°C Siberian winds. The Otranto Channel is known for its unpredictable weather and heavy commercial traffic, making it a true test of seamanship. Our Furuno radar and navigation system proved invaluable, helping us stay alert and safe through the night. Me and the blonde stayed up together until midnight, then my solo night shift began. With small squalls and a suspicious fishing vessel lurking outside Corfu, it was an eventful night. At 8 AM, the blonde took over, giving me a much-needed 2-hour nap just as we entered the channel between Corfu and Albania. Though we originally planned to stop in northern Corfu, we made the last-minute decision to push all the way to Preveza to rendezvous with Andy and deliver his spare parts. Arriving in Preveza at night proved to be another challenge. Many of the channel buoys were unlit, and the city lights blended with traffic lights, making navigation confusing. Thanks to our radar and equipment, we managed to moor safely at 9 PM. The next day, I installed our new diesel heater, only to realize I’d have to take it apart again to correct some wiring mistakes. Boat life never fails to keep things interesting! ⛵ 13-Hour Otranto Passage: Sailing through the unpredictable Otranto Channel, dealing with squalls, freezing winds, and dodging commercial traffic—this passage had it all! 🎯 Solo Night Watch: While the blonde got some rest, I sailed alone through the night, navigating tricky conditions and keeping an eye on a suspicious fishing vessel outside Corfu. 📡 Radar & Navigation Win: Our Furuno radar and nav system proved essential for staying safe in high-traffic waters and tricky nighttime approaches. 🛠️ Diesel Heater Installation Fail: We installed our new diesel heater, only to discover a wiring issue that required a full teardown and reassembly. Another day, another boat project! 💬 Join the Conversation: Have you done a long night passage or navigated tricky channels in the dark?

#camper #camperlife #viaggioincamper #ronik #sailingronik #viaggiare #spagna #canarie #tenerife #alcalà #golfdersur #amarillagolf #amici #amicizia #rientro ⛵️ Il nostro S/Y Ronik è a riposo durante l'inverno in secca in cantiere a Termini Imerese che riprenderemo in Primavera 2026. Continuate a seguirci! Sailing Ronik on the Road.
But is that that really true when you look at what they've built in Lorient? In our latest exclusive access we examine the French Challenger's strategies for wining the Auld Mug and look back at over 50 years of French America's Cup history. France has produced many sailing champions but never an America's Cup winner. Niall Myant-Best goes inside the French challenger's base in Lorient to find out whether that's about to change. Featuring skipper Quentin Delapierre, sailor Amélie Grassi, Technical Director Antoine Carraz, Sporting Director Philippe Presti, and CEO Stéphan Kandler.
