We set off down the Portuguese Coast in the thickest fog we've ever seen. At the worst points we could probably only see 20 metres ahead in any direction. But we made it safely to Nazaré, the surfing paradise and home of the infamous monster waves. We end up spending a week in Nazaré biding our time and waiting for some good wind and sea state to take us further South. It was a beautiful town to explore, although a lot of the time we were there it was just very foggy, which is apparently normal for that time of year. Work/life balance can be tough. Fortunately I was able to combine the two by bringing my boat into our studio space to work on it during downtime in the office! How great is that! This allowed me the time to tackle some projects like patching holes in the deck and installing some new components to the boat. All while keeping her dry and out of the elements.

We decided it was time for a new car for our sailboat. The one that came with boat was having several issues that made it not reliable to be our lifeboat and car. So we start the shopping for a new dinghy. We have to load up our old one as one of our sons wants it to rebuild for his boat on a lake. So we have to load it up, take to a storage unit and then drive to pick up our new dinghy. We have some difficulties getting the new car from our truck down the dock and into the water. We looked at and researched more than what is in this video at all the different models. The model we chose gave us the most options we were looking for at the best price. Plus the company we bought from has been great to work with in making some customizations for us. This is not sponsored and we did not even let them know we had a channel. Since day one back in July of 2022, we have had several hatches that leaked. While in Guatemala, we re-bedded two of the three hatches in the salon and galley, but that's as far as we got. We mitigated the problem by keeping a bucket or bowl under the leaky spots, with the intention to re-bed the rest of the hatches as time permitted. Taking care of that problem was definitely a job for while we're in the boatyard doing the refit, and only a month into the process, we got busy removing the worst offenders. Unfortunately, they were corroded so completely that we couldn't separate the screws and hinges from the frames without breaking them, so we had to order new ones. We have a European boat. It was built in France and many of the component parts are also made in France. This includes the deck hatches. This is where we made our first mistake. We procrastinated a few weeks, and July turned into August. If you've ever tried to acquire ANYTHING from Europe in August, you will have discovered that everyone goes on holiday for the entire month of August. At least they do in France. Four months later, we finally got our new hatches. That's four months having two huge holes in the boat covered with tape, and leaking profusely into large plastic totes. After a few mistakes, we finally got them installed and are one step close to having a dry boat.
